  1. Ok sounds good thanks! The main forage is shad, but there are bluegill in there of course as well. I only have the one swim jig though so I will try it this weekend and get something else later if I like it.
  2. Ok awesome thank you I will for sure try that Saturday! And when you said bluegill did you mean in general or for the water conditions I was talking about? It is not actually muddy but for sure not stained. I throw a lot of green pumpkin senkos on this particular lake, so I thought the blue gill looked good, but I wasnt sure if it were different for a moving bait compared to a plastic.
  3. Thank you everyone for all of the advice! I appreciate it! Thanks for the input! If you dont mind me asking another question what do you mean by pumping the rod? I have seen that terminology quite a bit over the past few days on here, but I havent heard it before. What does that actually mean? Thanks again!
  4. So I am thinking about trying out a swim jig for the first time this saturday. I was hoping for some basic tips. 1. In stained water (1-3feet visibility) what colors would you recommend? I have a siebert outdoors swim jig in bluegill I was thinking about throwing. 2. Generally are they better with a little speed or slow rolled? 3. When a fish hits it how do you set the hook? Do you reel down on them and just put pressure or do you cross their eyes?
  5. Ok thanks, I will likely give it a shot this coming weekend. I am not sure if the weighted hooks I have are big enough or not for it, but if they are I will have to try that. If not i'll stick with the texas rig this trip and pick some other hooks up for next time.
  6. Hey guys so I want to start trying these out. What are your favorite ways to rig them? I was really like the look of texas rigging them horizontally, but I did want to see what other people thought about them as well. Thanks!
  7. Hey guys so I need a new deep diving crankbait reel. I have narrowed what I want down between the Abu Gracia Orra Winch and the Lews Speed Spool. Both of these are 5.4:1 and come with the extended crank handle. They are also both the same price. My problem is that none of my local tackle shops carry them. I have used other Abu reels before and I have used other Lews reels before, but never got my hands on either one of these. Which would you recommend?
  8. Hey guys so I am wanting to get into throwing some spinnerbaits. The problem is everywhere I look I am seeing different information on how to go about choosing things like type of blades, color of blades, if the blades should be painted and so on. The lake i fish on the most stays stained. I have 3 and a half feet of visibility on a good day, and most days it is probably closer to 2ft. Now how should I go about figuring out what blades to use? Should I have 2 colorado, 1 willow and 1 colorado, 1 big colorado, ect? Also when should I throw a silver blade over that of a bronze. Finally how do painted blades (I usually only see willow blades painted) come into play? Thanks for the help!
  9. Hey guys so I was reading an article on *** about creating contrast on your crankbait by using a black sharpie to recolor the top of the bait and some of the side. Anyways I was thinking about doing that, but I was worried about the scent from the sharpie causing the fish to not hit the bait, do you think that would matter?
  10. Hey guys so I am wanting to start throwing jerkbaits some. However there are so many different ones that I am at a bit of a loss for what to get. Also I do not want to order tons of them only to find I do not fish them a lot. So what is a good all around length you would recommend someone start off with? I assume it is just matching the hatch, and different times of the year you would use different sizes but I am a bit clueless where to start. Any pointers? Also I know there are shad and baitfish in the lake I fish of course, but I have no idea what their size is so simply matching up with them is not going to be an option. Basically I just want to know what a general good all around size is. thanks!
  11. I had a chance in Greensboro yesterday to meet and talk with Wilson Fraizer and hear him speak on reading a depth finder. He is definitely a unique character. I was considering picking up his DVD series. Have any of you every watched his DVD series? If so I would love to know if you found it helpful or what your thought are on his DVDs. Thanks
  12. Ok cool thanks man, I fish Randleman a lot so im right in that area. I have been throwing DT-6 a lot lately but no luck, I dont have any DT-10s I should probably pick some up. The only plastic I have been able to catch anything on lately has been either a speed craw or wacky rigged 5in senko.
  13. Hey guys I was wondering if anyone around NC could chime in on the size baits they throw in the fall? I have had a lot of trouble finding baitfish around here to look at and actually figure out their size. I know itll be different for different lakes, but just a ball park guess would help a lot. Thanks!
  14. Hey guys I was wondering which of these you prefer and why?
  15. Thanks for all the replies guys!
  16. Hey guys can you recommend me a scale that is accurate, doesnt drain batteries, and not very expensive? Something under $50 would be great. Thanks!
  17. Ok awesome thanks man I appreciate it! Cool thanks everyone for all the replies, I may grab some of these pretty soon
  18. Are you guys keeping them tied on for when you see shallow structure to throw them around or what? I ask because I have a few kvd 1.5s but I barely ever tie one on simply because they run so shallow. Other than laydowns and things like that I find it hard to find areas that are shallow enough for them to dig into the bottom and what not. So what do you look for when deciding to throw a SB instead of a crank that dives a little deeper?
  19. Do you by chance remember what color he was throwing? So many of those look like they wouldnt work in stained water to me, I would like to know what he was using
  20. Sounds good, thanks for all the replies guys
  21. That was what was confusing about it, the schools did have predators with them. The fact that they were so tightly schooled is what made me assume that the predators were feeding then.
  22. Ok cool thanks guys. I have dropped them beside the boat before, but I didnt feel like that really gave me much of an idea on what I was counting. thanks again!
  23. Ok well would you suggest a lighter or darker color for stained to muddy water?
  24. I was looking at getting one of the Spro Bronzeye Shads and was wondering for topwater, does color really matter? If so what would you be looking for to use in a stained to muddy lake. Also, is there any difference besides looks between the Bronzeeye Shad and the Bronzeye Frog? They looked the same to me but I wasnt sure. Thanks!
  25. Hey guys so this maybe a bit of a stupid question, but how do you count down your baits? What I mean is I see people talking about counting down a variety of different baits. Are they just guessing, or how do they figure out how fast the bait will sink? Is there any tricks to finding out an accurate rate of fall? thanks
