  1. Awesome thanks!
  2. Haha does that mean you fish it weightless in all depths?
  3. Hey guys so lately I have been watching a lot of MLF online. A lot of the pros spend a lot of time using a drop shot, which is something I am very new to. My question is about the hook set. I have always thought that you use circle or octopus hooks with a drop shot, and I also thought that with those types of hooks you arent supposed to hook set vertically but more horizontally like a sweep. However I have seen a lot of them set the hook by pulling the rod upwards. So my question is, are they using circle hooks and it is actually ok to set the hook like that, or are they using some other type of hook?
  4. Awesome thanks for the suggestions! I didnt think to ask in my first post, but what size weight would you recommend for the 10-20ft range? I have never actually used the wacky rig weighted before, but I think it is something I really want to do this year as I have always had a lot of confidence in it weightless. Thanks again!
  5. Hey guys so I was wondering what your favorite weedless wacky hooks are? I am wanting to fish them both shallow and in a deeper water like 10-20 feet, so I would want some that have weights as well as some without weights. Thanks!
  6. Thanks for the reply! Do you also fish the normal little john with the circuit board? How deep do you think you get it to go? Im wondering now if it is worth having both of them or just get one? I used the MD yesterday in cell mate, and my dad was using a regular little john in cell mate and together we put around 25 fish fish in the boat. It was the best day of fishing I have ever had. The little john series is quickly becoming my favorite crank out there.
  7. Hey guys so I had a quick questions for those of yall that fish the little john cranks. How much depth would you say you get out of the MD, and what line do you use? I fished one yesterday on 10lb Pline Fluoroclear, and to be honest I never felt like I was getting the 8-10ft that I thought they were to supposed to run. I am just wondering if others feel like this as well? Also if anyone uses the Baby DD how deep would you say you get that, and on what line? Thanks guys!
  8. Thanks for all the replies guys! This site has helped me with a lot of the different questions I have had over the past few months. I really appreciate it!
  9. Sorry ,when I say there isnt one I mean of once it was flooded. I have found a few different ones online of th area before it was flooded however none of them state the actual boundaries of the lake, or have anything labeled on the map that would help narrow down exactly where the lake starts once you are looking at it if that makes sense. One more quick question if you dont mind, when you say with the correct settings on the FF what all are you referring to? I have read the two things to really look for is sensitivity and scrolling speed, is there anything else that really matters? What do you suggest for the scrolling speed? thanks for the help guys I appreciate it!
  10. Hey guys so I want to get out of only fishing what I can see above water. I have been doing some reading and I understand idling over humps and all to find a sweetspot to throw to. However I need some advice on how to start on my local lake. My problem is that there are no topo maps available for the lake I fish. So I cant really try to find structure from a map and then apply it on the lake. To give you an idea about hte lake, it is a reservoir, and I have seen water up to around 50 feet deep. However I have never caught fish, or heard of anyone else catching fish any deeper than around 20ft. Most of my summer fish last year coming off of 5xd's so around the 15ft range. The deeper water fish that I did catch were just from backing off the bank and still throwing in that direction, so I was not really using my electronics to target underwater cover. So without a map to find structure, how would you go about fishing deep for largemouth? I was thinking just idle in the 10-20ft range until I find something that looks good on a point or just going down the bank until I see something, but that seems like it could take up quite a bit of time. Is there a more efficient way to go about it?
  11. Hey guys so what makes an area suitable for spawning for a bass? Like when planning a trip based around finding spawning areas for bass what do you look for?
  12. But after hearing about it so much recently in different threads on here I am wanting to start trying it. I have a few questions first though What line conditioner would you recommend? I read someone say that line conditioner can eat away at fluorocarbon and you should not use the two together, but I have seen a lot of other people say it is great to use together so which is it? How do you go about applying it? My last question is how often do you apply it? thanks guys!
  13. Hey guys so I need to put some new line on my deep cranking set up. I usually throw Baby Little Johns, 5xds, and 6xds on the same rod. Lately I have been using P line Fluroclear in 10lb on all of my setups, except for the ones I use braid on, which I love, but I do want something with a bit smaller diameter for cranking a little deeper. I also dont want to break the bank if that can be helped haha. What would you recommend that I look into? Also would you recommend 8lb or 10lb test?
  14. Hey guys so I have always tied a double improved clinch knot, but I saw a video of a San Diego Jam knot for the first time recently and it looked like it was quite a bit faster to tie. I was wondering how the two knots stacked up against one another? Also is there a version of the San Diego Jam that has the line doubling up in the eye of what it is being tied on?
  15. Awesome thanks! So far I have picked up citrus shad and cell mate in both the little john and the md. In a few weeks Im going to get them in the baby dd as well
  16. Hey guys thanks for all the replies again. I ended up getting one little john in citrus shad. We boated 12 fish today and the little john counted for 9 of them. I am going tonight to pick up a few more colors. I know I am getting cellmate, and I am not sure what the third color I will get will be, because I dont know what all else the store has. I hope to buy what I can without ordering online.
  17. Cool thanks guys for all the replies! Looks like I will be getting cell mate, citrus shad, and chart blue then. I will probably get them in the MD, Baby DD, and DD as well if I like how the little john works. I am sure that I will, but I still want to hold off on buying it until I know for sure. Thanks again!
  18. Ok cool sounds good thanks for the advice! It ended up raining most of today and thats the first rain we have had in maybe two weeks. Hoping that will bring some more bass in shallow, this has been a weird spring so far. I cant wait to break in the little john tomorrow!
  19. Cool thanks. Online it is a bit hard to see exactly what color cell mate is so I wasnt sure about stained water. Some pictures look like a chart hue is on it and some make it look plain white. I will for sure have to pick it up in that case.
  20. Thanks for all the advice guys! I am going to hit the water tomorrow cant wait to try out the Little John I picked up
  21. Wow man those are some really nice fish! If you dont mind me asking, when do you like to throw the citrus shad? I was thinking anywhere from almost clear water to almost heavily stained water would be good for citrus shad, but I havent actually used it before so I wasnt really sure.
  22. thanks I do, ill have to get one then haha. So I was reading a few different articles that John Crews had done talking about the different colors and he says in some that cell mate is a great stained color and then in the others he says it is great in clear water. So would you take that as you can use it in either? I like the looks of it, I just wasnt sure how well it would do with low visibility in stained water
  23. Hey guys so I was just wondering around what water temp do you usually move from using crawfish colored cranks to shad or other baitfish cranks?
  24. Hey guys so like the post says, I will soon be getting a set of Spro Little Johns in all the different depths. i would like to have the same color in Little John all the way to the Little John DD. That way I can fish all depths with the same colors. What would you consider must have colors, and in what conditions would you use them? So far I am thinking cellmate, citrus shad, and chart blue. I pretty much always fish in stained water, so I was thinking cellmate on cloudy days, citrus shad on sunny days, and chart blue when the water is more muddy than stained. I will eventually probably pick some craw cranks up but for now I am not really going to worry with them as I mainly want to start with colors I can use year round. Thanks for the suggestions! Edit: Would you consider Cell Mate to be a good stained water color btw? I usually have 1-1.5feet of visibility if that helps.
