  1. Ill look into the Xcalibur ones thanks! I unfortunately dont have an Academy close by, but would love it if there was one. All of their baits I have came across were great.
  2. Thanks for the idea. I saw that crank earlier and liked it, but I wasnt sure about how it would behave if I was burning it being that it is a flat crank? I typically just burn my square bills crashing them into as much cover as I can. I read somewhere before that flat bodied cranks were more for slower retrieves and may struggle to have the right action with a faster retrieve. I have never tried it for myself. How do you usually fish it?
  3. I had an interesting conversation with my dad today while we were on the lake. We were on a lake we havent fished in a while, and a lot of the trees in the water were either cedar or pine. We could not get a bite on either of those, although all our fish came off of lay downs. He commented that he cant remember hardly ever catching a bass off of cedar or pine. Is there anything to this?
  4. Hey guys so I am looking at getting some new square bills. I have been throwing Lucky Craft RTO 1.5, but I broke the bill on one today, and wouldnt mind trying something else that would be a little easier on the wallet. Would you say any of these preform as well as the RTO does? Also if it matters all my local lakes are wood or rock cover, we don't really have much vegetation to rip it through. Im mainly looking for the 0-5ft diving range. Also if you think a square bill I did not list would be a better choice please post it! Thanks!
  5. Thanks for that! Anyone else have anything to add about them?
  6. Hey guys so I have been looking at picking up some of these Xcite XB-1 square bills. I was wondering what yall's opinion of them were?
  7. Awesome thanks!!
  8. Hey guys so I was wondering what hooks yall use with a rage tail cut-r worm when texas rigging or carolina rigging it?
  9. True they are working well for me. I understand that compared to things like Megabass or LC they really arent that expensive, but they are the most expensive cranks that I have paid full price for and not just found on sell so to me it seems like a good bit of money. It is good to hear though that other people have not encountered the same issues that I have, hopefully the next couple I get will be better then. Thanks!
  10. I dont actually know what the theory is, but I do know this video explains it I have been meaning to watch it, but I havent yet.
  11. I was wondering if anyone else has noticed a very high rate of Little John and Little John MD cranks needing to be tuned? I am ok with tuning a cheaper crank, but for the price of a Spro crank, I would think it should be ready to go out of the package. I love the action, and I have caught more fish on those cranks than any other crank I have tried, but I am about ready to start looking else where for my cranks.
  12. Thank for the help guys! I was planning on upgrading one of my crank rods soon so I will use the old one to throw squarebills, but until then I will try out mono. Thanks again!
  13. Cool thanks I'll pick some of that up. What lb test would you reccomend? That is actually how I usually react when i feel a fish, thank you for the advice!
  14. Hey guys so right now I am using a 6'6 med bps Carbonlite rod for my squarebills. I know that is not ideal but it's the rod I have available at the moment. I made a post yesterday about losing fish when burning the sb and it seems like it's because of the medium fast rod is not allowing them to really inhale the bait. So now I have two questions. Until I can get another rod for my sb if I went to mono instead of the copoly I usually throw would that help? I usually fish 10lb p line fluoroclear. Secondly I may in the next few months be opening up a 7ft medium shimano compre cranking rod. Would that be OK for sb since I usually don't throw them into the thick cover but deflect around the edges of laydowns and what not. Thanka guys!
  15. That makes a lot of sense, I would bet that is what is happening. Thanks! Unfortunately I dont have a crankbait rod open to throw a squarebill on. I have my slightly deeper cranks on my three crankbait rods. I have been throwing squarebills on a Bass Pro Carbonlite 6'6 medium rod with 10lb p-line fluoroclear. I have been wanting to pick up the Tatula 7ft medium light cranking rod for a while. Now I may have more of a reason to haha
  16. Hey guys so today I was fishing a squarebill and started burning it in. I mean I was fishing it as fast as I could turn the handle (5.4:1) and I on the same stretch of bank had two good bites. They hit the crank hard enough to knock my hand off of the handle. Anyways both times I started to fight the fish for maybe 5-7 seconds and then they were just gone. I know at times a bass will just not get the treble hooks when they hit it, but I have seldom ever had one pull back against me that hard and not get hooked. Sure I may lose them on the way to the boat if they shake it, but not that fast. It felt like if a fish hits a plastic and you start reeling them in without setting the hook, they may fight for a few seconds then they spit it out. So my question is have you noticed when you fish a crank very fast, do you lose more fish? I have never fished one that fast, and I did it today just to try it because I saw a video with Takahiro talking about how that is how he always fishes his squarebills.
  17. hmm I hadnt thought of that, I was dipping Berkley power worms. Thanks for letting me know about the JJ's I hadnt heard that before Ill be sure to remember that!
  18. I really want to get JJs but I havent seen it anywhere around here. Im planning on throwing that in with my order next time I make one from tw
  19. So last week I bought a bottle of Spike-it dip. I used it on Thursday and it smelled strongly like garlic as it should. Last night I pulled the bottle out of my boat and was going to dip a few worms to have them ready to go tomorrow morning when I am planning on going with a friend. Anyways now the dip is not coloring the worms at all. Also after dipping the first worm I noticed that the dip now smells like rubbing alcohol. I tried shaking it and the rubbing alcohol smell just got stronger. Im not really worried about it, I can always just get another bottle, but Im just not sure what would have caused this. I never let the bottle get extremely hot, it sat in the boat outside in a compartment, but the hottest day we have had has been 95f, so not hot enough I would think it would cause the dip to go bad.
  20. I bought that combo a little while back. At first I really liked it, but over time I could see some downsides of it. the rod functions ok but it feels pretty cheaply in the hands. I have had two of the reels and saw the same problem with both. They are very smooth, but they are really finicky when it comes to throwing the crank. They will sometimes suddenly want to over run without any reason to. Its like youll cast for a while and itll preform great, then suddenly mid cast the breaks are just gone. Honestly I dont know what else in that price range I would recommend but I would try to stay away from it if you can find anything else to be on the safe side.
  21. Why do you say you would be using fluoro? Is it more abrasive resistant than copoly?
  22. Hey guys so I am redoing my texas rig rod and I want to go to high vis braid just because it gives me more confidence, and I have not been doing to hot with worm fishing, so whatever I can do to feel better about it the better off Ill be haha. I will be throwing into alot of laydowns and "sawing" the trees when fishing the worm out, or hopefully when fighting the fish out. So I am just wondering if you guys would suggest copolymer or fluorocarbon for it? thanks!
  23. In that price range most people will probably recommend you look into either the Curado or a Daiwa Tatula. Honestly I have never handled a curado so I can not say much about it, but I do have 4 Tatulas. That reel is amazing. Through ebay and amazon you can find them way cheaper than the normal price of $150 as well. I think it is well worth looking into. Also from what I have read on here about people talking about the Curado I would think that you couldnt go wrong with either.
  24. Haha I hope so, Id love to start working on a daiwa set up for most my combos!
  25. I saw the 7'7 but I didnt think you would want to deep crank with it. It was rated to top out around 3/4oz. I was worried baits like the Spro DD and the 6xd might be to much for it since they are 1oz. I didnt know that about the glass rod that is really cool!
