  1. Hey guys so I have not yet picked up a heavy action rod for heavier texas rigging, jigs, swinghead jigs, ect. I would like it to be from 7ft-7'3. So far I am interested in the Kistler Pro Series as well as a ***. Which would you recommend, and if there is another rod in this price range you would also look out I would love to hear about it. Thanks!
  2. Ok thanks! Ill be using the Rage Bug and the Biffle Bug.
  3. Hey guys so I will be fishing in depths from shallow-20ft with these. I'm not sure which weight I should pick up. I know it matters about wind and things like that, but Id still like a rough estimate. Thank you!
  4. Just to chime in with everyone else high vis yellow power pro is amazing! I also use a leader. I have not tried it without a leader, but some of the knots for tying on leaders are so fast I havent seen a reason yet to try it without one. I personally always use the J-knot. Also I have been trying out fireline tracer braid recently and I like it a lot as well.
  5. Thanks for all the replies so far guys. I have narrowed it down to either a Pflueger Supreme or a Shimano Symetre FL. What would set either of these apart from the other? Also what would all of the pros and cons of going down to a smaller sized reel be? thanks again!
  6. I have to second the Tatula suggestions. I have two of the 7'1 MH XF rods and I love them. One is for texas rig and jigs, and the other is for carolina rig. Now, I will admit I have not used many other rods in that price range to compare it to, but I have noticed the Tatula to be extremely sensitive. I also love the ergonomics of it. I do not have any experiance with the Shimano Crucial, but I have used the Clarus and the Compre line of rods that Shimano puts out. If I were to go back before I settled on the Tatula knowing what I do now, I would have looked into the Crucial as well. I doubt you would go wrong with either.
  7. Hey guys so lately I have been doing my finesse fishing (mainly wacky rig, small carolina rig, and shakey head) on a Shimano Compre dropshot rod. I have a Shimano Sienna 2500 reel on it. Now I am wondering if downsizing my reel would be a good idea. I am using 10lb braid. The combo feels pretty butt heavy because of the larger spinning reel. I know very little about spinning reels, so I would really appreciate any suggestions you may have for a reel that is $100 or less. Im looking for size as well as model and brand. Thanks guys!!
  8. Ok so just to double check, if I want a reel with no backplay at all then I am going for the zero anti-reverse? thanks!
  9. Thanks for all the replies guys I appreciate it!
  10. Anyone?
  11. Hey guys so I was looking into picking up a Lews BB1 and I saw they offer both of these models as options. However, I am not sure what the actual difference is. I will be getting the 6.4:1 for squarebills, so based on that what would you recommend? thanks!
  12. Hey guys I was wondering what yall thought about Denali Rods? I have seen a lot of good reviews on them, but more often than not those are from their Pro Staff. I would like to hear some opinions from people that are not Denali Pro Staff. I'm mainly interested in the J2 or the Rosewood. Thanks!
  13. Ok thanks guys that makes sense, I had not really thought about it in that way. Two of the rods I am interested in is the *** as well as the Denali Rosewood. How would you say these rods compare to a tatula?
  14. Hey guys so I currently am using Tatulas and I love them. However I wouldnt mind giving some other brands a shot as well. This has led me to wondering in terms of sensitivity, what IM rating would a Tatula have? Thanks!
  15. Hey guys so I recently picked up the squarebill KVD cranking rod and I really like it a lot. My only complaint is the reel seat is a bit larger than what I am used to, and the larger reel seat combined with a Tatula, which is what I use on almost every rod I have, is just not a very comfortable set up. So I would like to pick up a smaller reel to go with the rod. My price range would be somewhere around $100-$150. To be honest since I found the Tatula I have not looked into any other reels because I have been so happy with it, so I am a bit out of the loop on other reels in this price range. I am open to any brand, I just want a reel similar in quality of a Tatula, just smaller. Thanks for the help!
  16. Thanks! It was. I spend about every saturday on Randleman. I have tried some of the other lakes in the area that are closer to my house, Mackintosh, Cammack, Graham Mebane, but I keep going back to Randleman. I love that lake.
  17. Thanks guys I appreciate it! Thanks! It was a 4/0 round bend worm hook from bass pro.
  18. Hey guys so I caught my personal best yesterday! I have only been fishing for about two years now, and a lot of what I have learned came from this forum and all yall on here, so I wanted to post and say thank you! Until this year I had never had any luck with texas rigging so I have been spending a lot of time each outing trying to get better with it. It has for sure led to some larger catches for me over the past few months. Anyways my dad and I were fishing a laydown that we hit almost every trip out. We had been on it for a pretty good while when I pitched a 7in powerworm into the middle of the tree. I felt the tap and started to get my slack up when I see my line swimming back into the laydown. After setting the hook he tried to wrap me up on a number of different limbs, but finally I was able to work him out of the tree. My dad netted him for me and we threw him on the scale. He came out to 6lb 6oz. Haha he bent out my hook some and I couldnt tie another hook on for a few minutes because my hands were shaking so badly! Anyways thanks again for all the advice and all of the help you guys offer on this forum!
  19. Hey guys so my local walmart has some of the livingston lures now. Anyways just from looking at them in the store they all seemed huge. I was able to see their lipless crank, squarebill, and round bill. Anyways I was wondering if anyone on here had picked some up yet and if so what they thought about them. I like the idea behind them and would like to pick one or two up to try them out, but I was really shocked by their size.
  20. It has quickly became the only knot I use anymore. I use it on fc, mono, and braid. I have never had a knot fail either. I love it
  21. You should pick some up without a doubt! I now have 6 of the reels and 3 of the rods. The reels are all amazing, one of them is the Type R which is my favorite. They are all amazing. I have the 6'10 MH F which I already love, and I have had two of the 7'1MF XF that I have been using for t-rig and carolina rig. They are so sensitive and light. I did pick up their 7'1 MH R for squarebills but I didnt like that one. I attribue it to not liking any mh power for any of my cranking though so you may love that one too. The T3's are really nice also though! I dont think if its Daiwa you can really go wrong. Thanks for the advice! I have already picked up something else for this, but I will keep it in mind for the future thanks!
  22. Hey guys quick update, I got out tonight and was able to use the new combo some. I ended up going with a 7.3:1 Tatula with the 6'10 mh f tatula rod. I LOVE the combo. I threw a frog most the night and was able to get some pretty nice skips with it which is something I usually struggle with. Also you guys were right, a spinnerbait has no drag at all! I have been throwing spinnerbaits on a 6'6 M Carbonlite with a 6.3:1 Tatula and felt like I was fishing 20ft+ crankbaits. I guess the MH rod makes the difference, either way it handled 3/8 double willow spinnerbaits like a champ. Daiwa has really hit it out of the park with the Tatula line up.
  23. It is completely alright, I just appreciate you taking the time to write all of that up! It was really a lot of help, and made me think about thinks in a different way. I really appreciate it! So far I just have the BBZ-1 6in slow sink, but I for sure want to get a hud as well. Two weekends ago I caught a 3lb on the BBZ-1, not a monster but still felt good to get that first one. You have posted in a number of the different threads I have started on here about swimbaits and it has been a lot of help. Thank you again!
  24. Oh gotchya. Haha sorry the way I read your post it seemed like you were saying to go for the 7 Tatula rather than the 6 Tatula because the 7 was made for that rod. I would really like the higher speed for the rod, but Im worried about the amount of drag the spinnerbait would have on a 7. I usually throw spinnerbaits on a 6'6 MF rod with a 6.3:1 and that has quite a bit of drag already.
