  1. Thanks everyone for the responses and the screenshots. This was really helpful I appreciate it!
  2. Hi Guys so I am getting a new swimbait rod for throwing softbaits with J hooks. On average this will be for 2-6oz baits. I am wanting a Dobyns Champion rod for this. I know by weight rating the 806 or 807 will do this, but does the 806 have enough back bone to have solid hook sets? I will be on 25lb FC. Ive tried braid to leader and was not a fan. Id prefer the 806 for versatility if you believe it will stick the hookset as I don't see me going heavier than 6oz, but want to make sure I dont miss fish due to the softer tip thanks!
  3. I am looking at planning a weekend trip to Lake James to go after some small mouth some time this year. It is about a 2.5 hour drive from me so I do not get to fish this lake often. What month would you say is the best time for me to come if I have extremely little to no knowledge of this lake and will be primarily junk fishing? I will do some graphing but likely very little due to only having 2 days to fish. Thanks!
  4. Any one know what size hooks come on the Super Z cranks?
  5. Hi guys so I recently ordered Precision Contour HD and received the reveal card. The seller is telling me it is the samething. Is this accurate? Did reveal replace precision contour hd? Thanks!
  6. What jig head do you guys use for small swimbaits like these?
  7. Hi guys so like the topic says I am going to get a powell rod for throwing deep cranks (6xd and deeper) plus A rigs. I am looking at either the Endurance 7116 CB or the Max 795 CB. I dont have anywhere around here I can go get my hands on these. Which would you recommend? Thanks!
  8. I cant wait to fish with this rod but from initial feel I have to say I agree. I love how it feels
  9. So unfortunately I wont be on the water again until next weekend, but I did get the rod in today. It feels absolutely amazing I love it. When I was surprised at how much back bone it had. I honestly feel like getting good hook sets will not be an issue with this rod. I think is going to work great for this actually
  10. I actually talked to the dealer about the difference between braid and FC as well and he told me that after handling and fishing the EMTF he still did not think that would be an issue. I actually do typically fish Sniper, but the dealer was talking about how good Daiwa J Samurai FC is and offered to spool the reel I bought from him as well in that line free of charge. Super nice guy! Itll be about 2 weeks before I can get out to fish but I will let you know how it goes! I meant dragging football jigs in 5 to 25 ft of depth. Haha sorry that was not very clear on my part
  11. So I also went back and rewatched his newest video on rods. He actually states that Megabass intends the rod to be for treble baits but it is a great fb jig rod. I talked with a Megabass dealer in the US that also handles these rods a lot and fishes with them personally and he agreed that the EMTF would fit my needs extremely well. Mix in the fact that the Braillist along with most other Orochi rods are not available until around Mid-April, I decided to go with the EMTF. I found one in stock last night and ordered it. Worst case if I dont like it for fb jigs Ill look at the Braillist and the other ones you mentioned when they are available next year, and Ill have ended up with an apparently versatile rod I can use for other applications. Thanks again for all the help, really excited to see how this rod is and start playing around in the higher end of gear.
  12. I went with the Megabass Orochi EMTF for my football jig rod for a few reasons. The main one being it is available and most others are not at the moment. I think for 1/2oz football jig rods from my reading that it should work well. So now I just need to figure out what reel I want to put on it. I have recently made the switch to Daiwa. So I am looking at either the Tatula Elite for the long distance casting or a Zillon SV TW. I have read a couple of places that while the SV system is amazing at having more controlled casts, it is not that great for distance casting. With a 1/2oz football jig I typically do not have any trouble with overruns and so on as they throw very well. I do wonder if the slightly heavier Zillon would help balance the rod better though. Which of these two would you go with?
  13. Hey guys wanted to say thabk you for all the helpful answers! The issue is I am interested in all of the ones mentioned! Hahaha rod shopping could be as addicting as actually using them!
