  1. Jimmy does do a great sales pitch on tv. I think he's a great fisherman, tv host
  2. Looking into purchasing this inexpensive rod and was wondering if anyone has one and is it a good rod for bass fishing.
  3. I have the stx 3. I like it for palmabilty. It cast well. I have had issue with the thumb bar. Greasing the thumbar where the thumbar feet touch the frame helped and or using the reel alot. No issue since then. The CuradoI I really enjoy. It casts very well and feels solid. Oil brake drum and set up brakes to your liking and its my best caster. I havent tried the bb1 pro but its next for me. I may even try the bb2 pro for line capacity. There are striper in my bass lakes that reach the 20 and 30 pound marks maybe bigger and they run alot. For now the curadoI is a favorite but the stx palms very nice making hook sets easy. It casts great but the coating on the spool shaft(palm side) has begun to wear off. It has not hurt its performance yet but the reel doesnt seem to be durable enough. The CuradoI bearing on the gear side is sealed into the sideplate making it non removable. I'm not pleased with that but the breaking seems to allow a wide range of casting.
  4. I have a revo gen 3 premier and the stx. I have noticed the coating on the spool shafts wearing off on the palm side of the spool. Has anyone had similar issues and should I be concerned?
  5. Very good advice from you guys thank you! My current setup up is a curado I 6:1,15 lb mono 6'6 ugly stick lite pro. I like the outfit for squarebills. What outfits may perform better?
  6. Sometimes it's just fishing, don't let it get into your head and slay them next trip out. good words to hear sir
  7. Too true my friend too true!
  8. After practically going swimming to retrieve my snagged fish attracting gem.
  9. The one I caught was on the outside of the mouth. I fished that crank more with little results then switched colors and started getting more action till I unfortunately had to leave.
  10. Definitely agree. I was using a skeet Reese which I liked but seemed too much parabolic bend and less casting distance with smaller squarebills so I thought a med action ugly stick lite pro would be adequate and was for castability and still letting the lure work. Less parabolic than the Reese cranking rod(for larger cranks)
  11. They were new hooks but perhaps your right.
  12. They didn't jump they all pulled off. I really thought I was taking my time. If I add a larger hook on the back will it dramatically change the action?
  13. Fishing from the bank and I honestly thought I used too little pressure
  14. Had good day of fishing, kind of. Switched cranks on heavily pressured water till I found the better one. Caught one but lost five others. I'm using 1.5 and 2.5s. Since I've upgraded the rear treble to Kvd size 2s. Now I'm second guessing my switch. Won't be on the water right away so I thought I'd ask, switch front hooks out or both? Is there any other insight into my situation. They're hitting well but I keep loosing them. I'm throwing them on an ugly stick lite pro. It seems to be a fairly parabolic action and tip. Hey any help would be great. This topic has probably been discussed alot but it seems to be crankbait season here and I'm new to crankbaiting but lovin it.
  15. The fishing has been good below three mile run boat launch. It has warmer water and prespawners.
  16. Nice boat nice lake. I fish it often definitely say hello if I see you out good luck this year, hopefully the ice goes away soon.
  17. I do like both of those the komodo looks (by its specs) amazing. My only reservation is the weight. It reads like quality for sure. I was kind of trying to have the option of using it for smaller bass lures also in a pinch. Rig it on a bps cranking stick 7'6 mh
  18. Trying to decide on which would be best for a rigs and big plugs. There are big stripers in the water I fish that make long runs. (20 - 30 lbs+) I'm a little concerned about the anti reverse also. Any insight would be helpful.
  19. I own both stx and premier gen 3. Initially I have had trouble with the thumbar on the stx. It wouldn't re engage unless you fully depress it. Gradually the problem went away. I use them both alot and enjoy them more than other reels from other companies. The premier handles Lighter lures better. They both palm well and cast well. They are great all around reels that handle a wide range of techniques. I find i enjoy using them and feel confident when using them. The premier on sale would be my choice. But the stx isn't far behind.
  20. Imho I do believe it does add too much friction to the line. I use braid to help with this issue. I have a t3 and don't like it for mono.
  21. Buy larger spools of inexpensive line to start. Cast heavier lures, half ounce jigs or three eights. In your yard walk out enough line for a cast and tape the spool so when the reel does overrun it cannot pass this taped off spot. A good medium action rod tends to cast better than stiffer medium heavy and heavy action rods. Use 12 pound test mono Berkley big game or eagle claw thousand yard spools. Not great line but cheaper. You can respool new line cheaper until you get the hang of it. Read the pinned posts at the top of thread. Learn to maintenance your reel. Good luck
  22. Hondas always start. Good on gas. :-D
