  1. I didn't realize there was a support group! Thanks. I just traded for a left hand smoke bc and a cumara mf rod. I have fished righty for years and only use big baits. This has got to stop! Hi my name is Troy and I'm a fisherman. Its been 32 days between purchases and this trade happened. I don't use quantum reels or left hand retrieve Lmao the combo is sweet I'm going to miss the coat rack exercise machine I traded.
  2. I did fool around with the connecting knot. I put it to one side instead of the middle and tied a small knot. Spooled the line with adequate tension. This worked thank you everyone
  3. I have fished with it with the braid on it stayed the same. I have taped the line on before spooling to avoid a large knot and spooled under very tight tension. Oddly if I use mono there's no problem. I'll try it all again using the suggestions maybe I overlooked something but I have tried several times The reel is awesome with mono does anyone have a 300e and braid brand suggestion?
  4. Usually about half full(when spooling) I notice it beginning to mound in the middle. I have no pic because I have just been using mono or backing with half mono then braid to get better lay from the braid. I really wanted to run a full spool of braid but cannot.
  5. My shimano curado 300e is a very good reel. Problem though is with braid it winds the line high in the middle not evenly across. With mono it's perfect. Using 30 and 50 lb power pro. Do I need better braid or is it the nature of thos higher capacity reel.

  7. I used 50 pound pp and 30 and the line doesn't lay flat on the spool it winds up high in the middle
  8. The Casitas seems like it could be a good light weight pitching reel. Its new so its untested. It has graphite composite frame and side plates so it may not stand up to heavy duty pitching applications but its lower line capacity and overall design looks like a good cheap pitching reel. Lake fork guy(youtube) does a decent review.
  9. I have tried it with a similar reel (rick clunn bps) no great noticeable difference. Keep bearings clean lightly oiled loose tension brake two pins on and no magnetics and its the best I did as far as smooth pitching with a similar reel. Try it and see maybe you'll have better results. Also good line helps and insure its wound under tension. Occasionally cast farther after pitching to get good even line lay and tension.
  10. I enjoy my 300e as well. Looking forward to 300 I if possible with svs breaking and x-ship and 3d spool. The 300e is pretty sweet could be great if a new 300 is produced. I do though have issue with running power pro braid on the 300e. The line bunches in the center. Is there a better way, braid or line. Right now I must back with mono then pp to get level line lay or just use mono alone. Any line suggestions or solutions to maximize capacity and maintain level line lay. Does a more rounded braid lay best when filling the spool with it or is mono the best fit for the 300e? Appreciate the help and any line suggestions. I'm anticipating a tangle with a large land lock striper (20-30lbs or so) and enjoy baitcasting equipment so I wanna make it work with braid but it winds and operates perfectly with 15lb mono.
  11. OK. I had a pfleuger and a cabelas that worked that way(the rotor nut too tight) your reels may be different. Good luck sorry I couldn't help.
  12. The nut that holds the whole bail assembly probably needs to be backed off a hair. Too loose and the rotor wobbles. Too tight and it makes the retrieve stiff(pretty common) I might have the terms wrong but its the hex nut you loosen to pull the entire lid or bail assembly off. Following the shaft the spool is on down its that hex nut which is usually kept in place also with a small screw. It is common to overtighten when putting back together. The difference between too tight and too loose is very small. The srew against it hold it in place. If too tight after using it they might get looser. That explains why the reel operated good again. Just mess with the tightness of that hex screw so it isn't too loose allowing the rotor to wiggle then put the little screw back in place holding the hex nut position.
  13. Bring back or make new like them!
  14. Alewives. They are favorite food on one of my favorite lakes Could some of bassresource fisherman share pics, ideas, lures of alewive imitations that work for Bass, Stripes, Musky and the like. What's the best alewive lures and or techniques? Pictures would be great to see as well. 8 pounders for all. And all a good bite!
  15. Yes they may poke fun but I've learned you can't buy everything. You need to use all you do have to it's fullest. There are times fish won't take what you offer unless it's presented different from the norm within reason. Small subtle tweaks on pressured water have prevailed for me when nothing seems to work for anybody. Throwing a jig together on the fly or before a trip can and will benefit me I'm sure. Thanks again
  16. Thank you. I thought along those lines myself but needed to find the right shims easily. I will try your suggestions much appreciated!
  17. Good idea. Thanks. I've been wanting to use a stout hook with small weight so I figure I can use split shot.
  18. Its the handle crank knob It has some extra in and out play but also play on the shaft The bearing runs good and its securely fastened.
  19. I have a new 300e with a knob that has more play in it than I like. Does anyone have a simple fix? I have taken it apart and inspected it. The best I can tell is the inside diameter is just a little larger. Thank you for any ideas Shimano for life! 8 pounders for all! And all a good bite!
  20. Wow an eon. I bought one in 2000 could never dial it in but I've learned to cast baitcasters better now. I've since lost the reel to a move. I was curious why you like it? It was innovative at the time but made of alot of plastic. The level wind fully disengaged and it seemed would be a great idea. The concept of the reel was very interesting but never caught on. It was made too cheaply imo but its design I thought would have taken root in modern baitcasters but never did. Does it work well for you and why do you still use it. Im just curious because I never really got a chance to use it much but was fascinated by its design.
  21. This is gonna cost me more money. I was hoping also for a 300 series I have thoroughly enjoyed curado I all summer into winter.
  22. Palming a revo is it's best attribute. I don't have the revo s, I have the stx and premier. I would stick it out with the reel and fish it some ( I have been prefering shimanos lately) Daiwas are also fun to cast. The revo s I believe is mostly for pitching lures but have heard it casts well and yes its more of a set it and forget it reel. I love revos palming comfort for me but other companies lower end offerings have served me best. Hooksets and drag power also give the revos an edge imo because of there palmability and drag power. Try the reel for an outing and if you're not happy then return it for what you like. Its still a very thoughtful gift. 8 pounders for all! And to all a good bite!
  23. I have always used right handed retrieve and it took practice. I had one lefty carbonlite and really enjoyed the instant connection. I think the righty reels are that way because it keeps everything standard turning threads.. Dragstar and drive shaft. I have also thought or perhaps read a long time ago and sort of agree with. A busy day of fishing, catching and cranking, if your dominant hand/arm does all the work(with left handed retrieve) it can do it easier but in time can become overworked. Running and gunning a half ounce spinnerbait all day while they're biting and you're gonna have one very tired arm/hand. That's more so in a three or four day tournament (especially with the heavier reels of old) . Now with right handed reels the duties of casting and hooksets are traded and the work load is more evenly distributed. I did like my old left handed carbonlite (gold) and plan to use left handed casters for pitching, casting or just a change of pace. I think right handed mechanically and physically makes more sense to a tournament or professional for the majority of fishing scenarios. For me learning a right handed retrieve and working the rod left handed has cost quite a few fish over the years and serves a good argument to retrieve left handed.. I'm going to use both and begin to purchase some lefties Baitcasters are awesome little machines that fascinate us all and I thoroughly enjoy using them for decades now and to come 8 pounders for all! And to all a good bite!
