  1. The barb doesn't seem to add too much to the diameter of the hole in general, so it probably isn't that much more traumatic for the fish. Your buddy, on the other hand, needs to develop greater care in paying attention to what he is doing. Hopefully he got a tetanus shot in that recent E.R. visit?
  2. Ah, great, thank you. For the MattLures options, they do look great and I guess I will have to get a heavier rod to be able to chuck those around. I will also check into Musky options, thank you.
  3. Hello Fellow Anglers, Has anyone seen a catfish imitation swimbait or crankbait? One of the little lakes I frequent has tons of catfish in it and I thought it may be a good idea to try to throw something similar out there.
  4. I'm also new(started fishing 4 months ago) and here is my perspective. The price is quite good for the features you will get on the reel. If you were to buy it and give up fishing, you could perhaps even make a profit on it provided you maintain the condition. Otherwise, it will give you some reel to "grow into" as you become more familiar with a baitcaster. I started with an Abu Garcia BlackMax2 reel ($50 at Wal*Mart) and would certainly have thrown the additional $20 at this one instead. If this is your first baitcaster, I would recommend not using the QuickFlip button for some time until you are familiar with the reel's action on a basic to intermediate level. You can check out bassresource videos by Glenn to gain familiarity with the platform and prepare yourself to start out. With that understanding of what you will be doing, you should learn about Making Adjustments to Reduce Backlash and Method1, Method2 for clearing backlashes from the spool. Starting with monofilament will lower the cost of learning to deal with backlashes in the beginning. As your thumb learns to keep backlashes from occurring you may want to try out the QuickFlip mode. The gear ratio on this reel is high at 7.3:1, which means each turn of the handle will spool a larger amount of line. If you do not yet know what technique(s) you would like to fish with, be aware this one will require a great deal of attention if you want to do slower/finesse fishing as you may inadvertently pull your lure in too quickly for a good presentation. The information I am finding online for that reel indicates 30.5" retrieve. Finally, it may be a little daunting to service a more complex reel yourself so if you do decide to perform maintenance on your own, be certain to keep a copy of the schematic in a safe place and be orderly when disassembling. There are professionals on this forum and probably local to you who can do it for you otherwise.
  5. I am glad for the speedy recovery! I spent the extra time getting frustrated at the terrible soundtrack choices and insignificant amount of information in random YouTube videos before recovering and rewatching Bassresource's channel. That almost proved fatal when he mentioned quitting bass fishing in his crappie tutorial.
  6. Atlanta checking in. I got to check out Lake Clara Meer (Piedmont Park) yesterday and it was quite fun. I will need to work on my pitching/flipping to take advantage of the cover and see what's truly hiding out there.
  7. It sounds like the SPORT is at position number twenty, and the top earning individual for the named sport is listed.
  8. If you went through most YouTube videos you probably already came across the BassFishinCom channel. Their videos seem to be stuck in the old 10-minute maximum video length limit from old-school YouTube, but their site has the full-length videos that have some tidbits to help round out or provide additional perspective to what you are getting here.
  9. I think some people may be over-complicating it a bit. Football jig. Matter settled.
  10. Is that the exchange that has been stickied in this post?
  11. I don't have any input on the units, but presuming you checked the flea market section already, perhaps you could try to call that new sponsor, Valley Sports? According to this post, Ron is willing to cut further deals and may be able to get you situated with something suitable for your needs.
  12. Did he only pop the emergency brake or was he completely foolish and not notice the vehicle movement as he took his foot off the pedal to get out? I know getting excited to hit the water happens, but this may be a bit...overboard.
  13. It might also be worth looking into duck/hunting boats in the same price range.
  14. My apologies, I didn't mean articles specific to this case. At any rate, it seems that what Glenn may be saying is those were housed in another environment (perhaps even a completely different host) and may be lost.
  15. There is so much great information here! I wanted to pick up a chatterbait to try and was able to find a thread from 2009 to get me off in the right direction. The "worst" part is practicing restraint in the flea market until I become more practiced in what I need. Thanks to everyone for making this possible and keeping the advice free-flowing and vibrant!
  16. Have you tried going through google to get to those results? I ran into a few links that didn't appear to be indexed here that google was able to get me to.
  17. I plan on continuing to learn the sport since my reading so far has indicated we don't get much of an "off" season in Georgia, and trying to convince my wife to keep coming out with me when it's cold.
  18. Congratulations on the new honeypot discovery!
  19. Interesting, but it really detracts from bank anglers' need to travel without excess doesn't it? Most RC boats that I have seen are 24+ inches long plus remote!
  20. My current setup as a new angler odds comprised of two tackle boxes. One is an old Plano guide series box that was netting used for electronics components. I keep the baits I don't take on my trip in that. The other is a conquer outdoors bag that was on clearance say Walmart. It came with three plastic trays and some plastic bags that attach to binder rings. I organize the plastics I want to use in the bags and set up each of the trays so that one is for top, one for mid, and one for bottom.
  21. Thanks, I will see if we can get down there and check it out for a bit. If I do I will report back!
  22. Hello fellow anglers, Does anyone have experience in the titled area? I scouted it last weekend and saw one fly fisherman with everyone else walking/running the trails. There seemed to be some interesting cover along a few inlets and plenty of rocks with varying depth on the main river. I intend to wet some line there this weekend and would appreciate any insight or recommendations from someone experienced in the locale. I will be confined to the shore.
  23. Forgive my ignorance, but do bass have a greater tolerance for being stationary if their water temperature remains constant? Is there any data on space requirements for an individual bass (pond boss?). If not, it would seem to be too limited of an environment.
