  1. Um, huh? http://www.basspro.com/servlet/catalog.TextId?hvarTextId=73517&hvarTarget=search&cmCat=SearchResults It's the left hand retrieve Curado currently available. What am I missing here?
  2. Does anyone know where I can get my hands on a spare spool for a Curado 101D? It's nice for those time to be able to throw a spool with braid on there... Thanks Chris
  3. Well, I guess this is why I haven't seen much mention of this reel ;D
  4. I don't think you're gonna find a lot of folks around here who recommend Ugly Sticks If you have a BPS near you, I believe they're selling Bionic Blades in store for $50. If not, they're $60 sold through BPS online. I think these rods would be a better choice, and are in your price 'ballpark'.
  5. Between the 40 and 50 series Records, the only difference is weight and line capacity. Same gear ratio, same price...
  6. Anyone have any opinions on the Daiwa Advantage spinning reel? I see a lot of Sol and Fuego references, but I haven't heard too much about these. I was thinking about picking up another Stradic and I saw this guy in the same price range... Thoughts?
  7. If I be nice until Spring, my wife may let me get a jonboat in a few months It's been a while since I've been in a classroom discussing voltage, current, etc. so let me burden you all with my silly questions... 1) Trolling motors that run off 24V. Does that simply mean I need 2 batts to run this motor? I assume if you have 2 of these motors, you need 4 batts right? You can't run 2 motors off the same 2 batts, right? 2) is it generally a good idea to use another separate battery to run depthfinder, lights, livewell, etc, or is their power usage minimal enough to use the batts you're using for a trolling motor? If it is a good idea to run other accessories on a different battery/set of batteries, how many batteries are sufficient to run these types of accessories? 3) all things being equal, if you look at 2 trolling motors with the same thrust, is it a better idea to get a 12V or 24V version? 4) lastly, would one see any difference in performance between one 80 lb thrust motor, vs two 40lb thrust? I can't think of a single reason why there would be a difference... Thanks all! Chris
  8. Some of my favs: Yuengling Fat Tire Sierra Nevada Terrapin Anchor Steam Flying Dog
  9. Well, there certainly are a few good bodies of water in NJ for smallmouth. If you can, try to hit the Manasquan Reservoir, Round Valley, Spruce Run or Hopatcong. Every time I've found the smallies in NJ, is was in deeper water.
  10. It's also helpful to use a visible color, like white, so you can see the bait's position on the bed.
  11. No, no. I grew up in NJ. The bodies go in the ocean, not ponds
  12. Yeah, I saw that too. I just assumed he meant inches, not pounds
  13. Well, like it or not, you should add soft plastics to the arsenal I used to be EXACTLY like that as well. Just had no desired to fish soft plastics since it was just so slow. But there's no denying that they catch fish. Anyway, here's a few suggestions: 1) Zoom trick worms -- a green/brown type color, and a dark color (junebug, black, purple) 2) Zoom finesse worms -- same colors as above. This is just a smaller version of the worm above. These can be fished in a variety of ways. With a jighead, Texas style weighted or weightless, splitshot. 3) 5" Senkos -- watermelon or green pumpkin Either Texas rig this one weightless, or wacky rig it. Look around for some more specifics on wacky rigging. 4) Zoom Super Flukes -- get a green/brown color and a baitfish color. As far as the tackle to fish these, I'd recommend a pack of 2/0 and 3/0 EWG hooks -- these are usable for any of the presentations above. Also, get yourself some 1/16, 1/8 and 3/16 oz worm weights for the Texas rigs. Lastly, get some 1/16, 1/8 and 3/16 'bull shot' sinkers for splitshotting. Also, try getting yourself a floating Rapala minnow.
  14. Seems to me it would be a good time to try drop shotting, or Spotsticking soft plastics in the depths once the sun is up.
  15. They can take your freakin' gear??? That seems a bit excessive to me... My GF was visiting me in NJ and we got her a 1 day pass. Lucky we did, because that was the first and only time I had ever seen rangers checking. But the kicker was he didn't believe the license was legit...
  16. So in all the reference I've read on pressure changes on fishing, I still have a few basic questions. What's reading is considered 'low pressure'? Is there a mb range, or is that term just used to indicate a drop of pressure? How about 'high pressure'? Is there a range or is it just used to indicate a rise from previous readings? What's a 'big' change in pressure? 2mb? 3mb? And building on that, what's a rapid change in pressure? How many mb over how much time? Obviously, there's not a set range, but I'd like to get a better idea of how to interpret pressure readings I see from the weather services. Thanks Chris
  17. OK, when you say 'low barometric pressure', is there a range that is considered low? Or so you simply mean the pressure lessening from the previous days?
  18. But the problem there is that I wouldn't be around to use the boat. And they'd never find my body
  19. So I'm attempting to convince the fiance that me getting a jon boat would be a good thing for fishing small ATL area lakes. I may actually be winning the argument. Anyway, if I did move forward, I'd want a boat with decks and pedestal seats. Are there any jon boats that come new with this configuration, or are my only options to modify the boat myself, or find a used boat? Just trying to see what options are out there...
  20. So you know which lake I'm referring to? How low is it now? Wow...let's just say I had no idea the wooden boat docks by the baitshop were on 15 ft pilings. You know the second roadway that crosses the lake? The one not being repaired? The shallower section off the main lake on the other side of the road is totally empty. And the ranger I talked to said they still need to lower it a lot. At this rate, we can catch bass with our hands But yes, it's a great time to get some idea of the structure in the shallow parts of the lake since there's no water covering them. I'll be doing that this weekend. There's a ton of tire piles by the bait ramp. When I was there last, I saw 3 or 4 schools of shad getting torn apart, but no takers on my Fish Head spin.
  21. One of the few lakes I've found by home that are close enough to hit after a day of work has been lowered quite a bit in order to repair a bridge. I've never exactly torn them up on this lake, but it's close and it fits the need when I need to wet a line With that said, what approach or changes should I make when fishing a lake that's been lowered a good bit?
