  1. OK, OK... Private pond near Lake Harding Water temp ~78 Water clarity ~1.5 ft 1/8 oz jighead and Zoom junebug finesse worm ~6 feet of water at the end of a big submerger log, right at a drop-off from 2 feet of water Strangely enough, the rig, lure, color, weight, etc was identical to when I caught my 8-15 PB earlier this year. I think I may have to throw this lure more often And for some reason, it didn't occur to me to get the gut shot. I attribute that to the excitement... Oh well, lesson learned.
  2. Got an invitation down to a friend's country house this weekend, and that means fishing I had a good weekend, especially Sunday. She went 7-11 on my scale, but I think she was more than that. But then again, I'm a fisherman, so I inflate my measurements anyway End communication.
  3. So that's why you cancelled my trips? To keep the big fish to yourself! Glad the wife is feeling better.
  4. BPS combos are your friends For $100, you can either get Shimano Spirex or Shimano Sahara and a Bionic Blade Rod. For your applications listed, I'd say to get 2500 series reel and a 6'6" or 7' MH rod. Even better, if you can save a few more bucks, the Stradic/BPS Extreme combo can often be had on sale for $140.
  5. I used to see these things all over the place. BPS, Walmart, Dicks, etc. Of course, now that I need some more I can't hardly find them. I only find the size 1 in the small bags, and the assortment in the little plastic box. I need some size 2, and only size 2, since that's what I use the most. BPS used to have the giant bags of these for $5 or so, but not anymore. Anyone know where I can get these things, preferably in the bigger bags???
  6. I agree. Use the hooks with the corkscrew. MUCH better!
  7. I'll be having some work done on my G3 1548 jon in the not too distant future and recently I was made aware that a recessed foot pedal for my bow mount trolling motor is an option. Anyone have any input on this? Worth it? Not worth it? More comfortable? Thanks Chris
  8. Out of those 2 rods rated for the same lure weights, I think the BPS is stouter. The MLF St Croix's seem rather whippy to me, and I'm not sure what they're really well suited for. I have a MLXF Avid that I use for split shotting, and it's perfect in my opinion. But the plain MLF wasn't for me.
  9. I prefer spinning. With a bait that tears as easy as Senkos, I'm not a big fan of the whipping action involved in baitcasting. Shimano Stradic 2500 and BPS Extreme Shimano Stradic and St Croix Premier or Avid Shimano Stradic and Shimano Crucial
  10. ...based on my trip today, and it's called Pickeral Resource. AAAAHHHHHHH!!! That is all...
  11. I bought a 7'6" MH BPS crankin stick today since they were on sale for $30, and I want to learn to throw deep cranks better So with that said, anyone have a recommendation for a cheapish (under $100) cranking reel? I was thinking about a Abu 4601C3, but for a 5.x:1 ratio reel, it brings in 25 ipt. I thought that may be a bit fast, but I wasn't sure. Anyone have any suggestions for a reel to throw 10-16 ft cranks that's available in left hand retrieve? Is the 4601C3 a good choice here?
  12. ACC fan here... Keep dreaming This kid's legend grew the longer he held out on announcing his decision, and for no other reason. The media's coverage is almost leading people to believe that he's the next freakin' Wilt Chamberlain, or some crap...and that, he is not. Surely he'll be a good player, but he's not gonna pull a Durant and score 25+.
  13. I think the Extreme is a pretty good rod. Not sure either of the rods you mention would be a significant upgrade. You can get a new 2-piece Extreme right now for $65, and I think that's hard to beat.
  14. Exact same thing happened to me while fishing the Manasquan Res a few years back. In all my years of fishing, I have never actually landed a pickeral...until the day I had no pliers. I got the fish up to the rip rap I was fishing from and as I was pondering how the heck I was gonna deal with it, the fish 'self-released'. Thank goodness
  15. When will they be available?
  16. If you seriously want some opinions, you need to provide some parameters: --price range --intended use etc. There are too many variables in this simple question...
  17. Cook it completely on a cast-iron skillet on a your kitchen stove...
  18. Really? I've heard almost the exact opposite....that the Zillion doesn't really shine until you're throwing 3/8 +, whereas the Revo is more capable of tossing 1/4. And with that said (and some other things as well), go with the Revo
  19. OK, what's the secret to pitching a 1/4 oz jig ~25 feet? I was trying to do it this weekend and just couldn't get any distance whatsoever. For flipping, do you significantly reduce spool tension more so than you would with normal casting? Perhaps it was just a case of my rod not loading enough, but I was attempting to pitch a 1/4 oz T-rig using a Revo STX and Kistler MG 69APC.
  20. You better save some for me for this Saturday!
  21. So I'm not clear. Did the line actually break, or did the knot slip out?
  22. I think it kinda depends on the size/depth of the waters you fish. The lakes I fish are all relatively small and I mostly fish shallow (1/8 oz shakey heads, 1/8 - 1/4 oz dropshotting). So with that said, I use a St Croix AS69MLXF rod with a Daiwa Tierra 2000. Bigger/deeper presentation may make stepping up to a M action rod more likely.
  23. I've been thinking about this application as well, specifically throwing a Bluegill pattern Aruku Shad onto bass beds in cover. I purchased some weedless mustad hooks with the intention of replacing the factory trebles with these single hooks to reduce snagging. Anyone do anything similar?
  24. Some people like to burn buzzbaits and traps with them. Alternatively, some like them for pitching jigs and soft plastics. You cast it to the spot, work it, and when you're out of the strike zone, you can retrieve and cast again quicker.
  25. I'm asking myself the same question... For a big swimbait, is rod sensitivity really that important? I've never thrown one, but I kinda figured if a bass took a swimbait, you'd know about it
