  1. The Line conditioner doesn't gunk up the reel?
  2. Do some brands of Mono have more or less memory? I ask because I had mine spooled at a local Cabela's, and what he put on there (which I don't remember, and is mistake number 1) coiled SO much, I ended up losing massive amounts as it spun off and got tangled up in giant knots. I don't remember it being that bad before. Now, winter is here and I have a bit of time to think about what I want to put on there next time....So I figured i'd ask. Thanks Rich.
  3. 1. Patience 2. Be willing to try new Techniques 3. Do your homework ie: Where, How, When.
  4. Thank you all for the info, I really appreciate it.
  5. Can you stand in something like this? Im just happy to see something where I wouldn't have to sit on the floor.
  6. Anyone one here have experience with inflatables? They seem sturdy enough, and for those without a trailer or a way to haul a rigid body around, seems like a decent option. Some seem pretty robust. Anyone one have experience / thoughts on this?
  7. Yea, just local stuff. Looking at something like that and not a Kayak since i'd like to take another person along with me.
  8. Looking at getting off the shore and onto the water. I'll most likely get a 10' Jon Boat, and while Buying one isn't the issue, learning what local regulations, rules etc is.... I know I should start here: http://www.ct.gov/deep/cwp/view.asp?a=2686&q=322292 But what differences in regulations might I find since this is such a small vessel?
  9. Yup, I agree with this outlook wholeheartedly. We did great this year on original Ugly Stiks, but one of the reels isn't holding up too well. That why I'm looking for slight upgrades. Thanks everyone!!
  10. All very good points. He's 7, and I want it to last, that being said, he's very responsible, and treats his stuff as well as I would want him to.
  11. The padlock is off! Normally, i'd look used, but Santa doesn't bring used items, does he? Heheh. After doing a bit of research, i'm leaning towards the *** *** Black Spinning Rod 7'1" Medium (fast) and the St. Croix Premier® Spinning Rods (mainly because I've read good things, and they have a 6' option which would fit my boy.) I also have the castaway discount. But I haven't read too much about them. What are people's thoughts on those rods? Man, there are SO many options out there...my head is spinning. (no pun intended) I'd love a bit more insight as i've narrowed it down a bit. Again, thank you to all who have chimed in, I have learned a great deal. Rich
  12. He's very tall for his age, 4'6"...... Suppose $75 - $100 Each? I've seen the Presidents sold as Combos, so i might lean in that direction, but I really don't want to buy him something crappy either. That being said, I don't know what a good Rod consists of, so putting a pricerange on it, I may come off a bit silly.
  13. Good point on the length, I should have specified, for HIM, i'd be looking at a 6' rod if possible. That's what he's been using all year on an ugly stik, and it seems to be a good size for him.
  14. This'll be the last equipment question I have for a little bit. Thank you to everyone who has answered all of my reel questions. I'll be getting 2 new reels over this winter. One for me, and one for my Son. (who is 7). Both with the same purpose of catching Bass at local Ponds / Lakes up here in CT. There are 2 different reels, and I've chosen them based on affordability, and the fact they both came highly recommended. For me, i've decided I'd pick up the Shimano Sahara 3000. The other one, for my Son would be a Pflueger President. I saw a Combo directly through the Pflueger website. If there is a combo that fits this bill, I am open to suggestions. Fishing from shore, what determines what a suitable Rod would be? 6.5 to 7' range, Medium Action is what I have read. What makes one brand better than another if they have the same specs? So basically I am looking for rods for both of these reels, combos are fine, I just want something we can both grow into and that will last a bit. Thanks again for all the help. Rich
  15. Thank you all.
  16. I was just about to ask, comparing the 2 sizes, 2500 / 3000 everything looks equal, but I don't quite understand the Max. Drag (lbs.) difference. From what i've seen here, it doesn't appear to be something to be overly concerned with. Or am I missing something. This is for Recreational weekend / weeknight use, i'm not looking to break any records here.
  17. I've read that a larger reel can help cast farther? Is this accurate? I fish from shore so that's something that i'd like to consider.
  18. I posted a while ago that I was looking for a new Rod and Reel. I had narrowed it down to the pfleuger president or shimano sahara, and have decided to go with the Sahara due to great reviews from things i've read, and people I have spoken to. Now the question of SIZE. It was recommended that the SH3000FE would be suitable for Bass Fishing in CT, but I wanted to get some opinions on the Size I should be looking for. So I'm turning to you knowledgeable people here. Does this fit the bill? Any concerns with that choice? Thanks!
  19. I'll be in MA for a wedding this weekend, and may have some time to go fishing with a friend who lives up that way. He said his go to spot has low water levels. Can anyone recommend something near Plainville MA, maybe withing 30 mins or so? We'd be looking for shore fishing. Thanks! Rich
  20. Just saw the "Retrieve" listing on reels. Thanks for the heads up.
  21. Slow pitch softball here, but i'd like to know. Can you switch which side the handle is on, on all spinning reels? I prefer the have the handle in my left hand, and just want to make sure if I pick something up online it can be set how i'd like. Thanks!
  22. Thank you all for the very insightful responses. I have a lot to check out but have definitely learned a ton....thank you! (and if anyone else wants to chime in, feel free, obviously, i'll continue to watch the thread)
  23. Well, I should backtrack a bit. That's not a hard cap...... As i'm learning more about the gear, what's realistic is changing my expectations. Which is fine! When I sit back and think about it, it's something i've done quite often this year (this is my first season fishing) and want to invest in something quality that will last. I by no means want to cheap out, but i'm far from pro, if that makes any sense.
  24. All really good info. Thanks for replying with why one is better or more advantageous. I'm learning a ton, and I really appreciate all the information.
  25. One more note, I almost gagged when I saw the price of the Falcon Cara.....I can't go that pricey. Don't be shy with suggestions, but that's out of my league. Looking for a setup that I can put together for maybe $150 if possible.
