  1. Good to know, just making sure it's no big deal......Figured i'd ask since I don't have a lot of experience with this stuff.
  2. I received this rod yesterday (Powell Diesel), and as i'm looking it over I notice the bottom guide looks a little funky. I called the place I bought it from, and they assured me that it was only cosmetic. I'll be upfront and say they were good about everything, but took a bit of asking to have the option to exchange it. I know it's not an expensive rod, and shipping it cross country and back would basically negate the cost of the rod (for them) they offered free shipping for me. But I wanted to get people's opinions here. They say it's cosmetic and the epoxy Powell uses would most likely have this issue pop up again. I know some people here have this rod....have you seen anything like this? They said if anything happened, they'd take care of it for me, but really, this thing has no warranty, I just want it to be decent out of the box. I've attached 2 images, one of a normal guide, and the other with the guide in question. Would you exhange it, or keep it? Normal Guide: Guide in question: You can see where it's white and slightly cracked.

    Overstockbait

Legit, I ordered from them a week ago and got some great deals.
  4. Welcome aboard! I'm a transplant from MA myself growing up in Lexington. Good to have you here!
  5. When I pull them out of the water, I've never heard one complain, so i'd guess no.
  6. I am right there, and my wife has threatened to euthanize the bait monkey. 4 Rods, 3 Reels, and a TON of tackle since December.....I'm ready to go outside now.
  7. It's $59 bucks. Which for a president and a rod, I think is pretty good.
  8. I'm getting my brother back into fishing, and with his budget I thought a combo would be the best way to go. I was going to suggest a Pflueger President Combo from one of the bigger stores. Gander Mountain has an offer for a President Reel and they'd toss in a Gander Mountain Vortex Spinning Rod (Specs below.) Does this seem like a good deal? The rod is free, so he can always upgrade it later and put the rest of his budget towards terminal tackle. Thoughts?? http://www.gandermountain.com/modperl/product/details.cgi?i=727161 • Length: 6'6" • Power: Medium • Action: Fast • Pieces: 1 • Blank Construction: Graphite • Handle Material: Cork • Handle Type: Split-Grip • Guides: Stainless Steel • No. of Guides: 6 • Line Weight: 6 - 12 lbs. • Lure Weight: 3/16 - 5/8 oz.
  9. Picked some up over this long winter....Can't wait to get out and try it! (But I chose original)
  10. Exactly, "Bass of a lifetime" has a lot of interpretations. They're always trying to trick people. One rule to live by is "Never trust a genie."
  11. Thanks for all the suggestions! I think I have a good direction to go in now!
  12. Is there anything that can be considered close to an "all purpose" spinning rod? I'm thinking about picking something to up to keep at work. Texas Rigged Plastics for sure, but maybe some jerks / cranks too? Am I dreaming? I know application specific is great, but to just pick one......Price would hopefully be in the 100-130 range. What would you look for if you could have only 1 (Spinning) rod?
  13. Welcome aboard!!
  14. By the way mbac31, thanks for starting this thread. Didn't realize there were so many of us up here.
  15. I think yanking it out of the boat in that video was a bit much, but the guy was excited. (what happens to those fish at the end of a tournament anyway? big fish fry?) I don't think dropping it in the water from a couple feet will do much of anything. As long as people don't do anything cruel or uncalled for, (ie: play Olympic Bass discus) I don't see the big deal dropping it back in. I tend to lay mine back in to make sure they swim away, but that's just me. I'm pretty sure they can handle it.
  16. Welcome aboard, a lot of new CT guys showing up lately.!! (Danbury, Here)
  17. Another CT angler here. Welcome aboard!
  18. Buying too much gear, praying for the snow to end here in CT. Winter can't end soon enough for me. Rich
  19. I'm an Animator at Blue Sky Studios known for Ice Age, Rio, Epic etc.
  20. I'll lose my family if this keeps going. I've already bought myself 2 new rods, and 2 new reels and my Son a new combo to surpress my fishing urge. If this keeps up i'll be broke, I need the spring to hurry up!!
  21. Knot Wars is a good one.
  22. I don't think I could see myself doing that.
  23. Like a lot of people I had a jar of coins laying around for a long time. I never liked using those coinstar machines to count money, since they take 11%. Ouch. But rather always opted to roll it myself. However, they started offering gift certificates instead of cash back with NO fee. 100% of your money can go into a gift card to a place they offer. One of which is BPS. It spits out a receipt with a gift card number on it and is instantly available to you. I was able to dump a bunch of coins I had laying around and turn that into half a Rod. Might be worth checking out if you have a ton of change and are too lazy to count it yourself. Rich
  24. As soon as the ice breaks and i'm not shivering outside, i'll be there.
  25. Does that affect it's performance in your opinion? Which do you prefer?
