  1. Anyone fish this area before? I got the permit and went out there this past weekend. Every turnoff had 2-3 cars in it. This was on the western side, and I don't see roads close to water on the right? Can anyone who has successfully fished there offer any insight? Looking for a new place to fish with my boy, and this seemed like a good option. Rich
  2. I called out sick to go fishing on the first nice day we had this season up here in CT. I was out there on a small lake at around 8am, and it should have been beautiful. Weather cooperated, but a ways down the shore there were 2 other anglers who brought a portable radio with them playing their music SO LOUD. Therefore, THEY were loud, yelling and swearing, I could have been in the middle of a city. (not to mention I had my Son with me). It toally ruined the experience. We ended up packing up and walking farther down the lake. Not a fan of music in that situation, when in any other instance it would have been completely quiet. That being said, they weren't doing anything WRONG....just annoyed me. R
  3. What size spinnerbait would you guys throw out to start? I have a 1/2oz i've played around with a bit and it feels like i'm pulling a truck through the water compared to any crankbait i've ever thrown. (I know they're different, just using as a comparison) Is that normal with them or could there be something off with how it's moving through the water? It looks like it's running true, but I haven't used them enough to know the small nuances. Thanks in advance. Rich
  4. Nice!
  5. I had a similar issue on a new rod from TW...The epoxy that held it on was cracked. TW tried to tell me it wasn't a big deal. I insisted they replace it, and they did, relatively hassle free. When buying something new, it should be NEW. Don't take it into your own hands to fix it if you've never done that before....You might just make it worse, then you're SOL.

^^ Agree with all above posts. I go 3/0 most of the time.
  7. A glimmer of hope for you may be in this story. Fishing a new place today standing on the shore we saw a kayaker doing his thing down the bank. As we moved from our spot I hadn't seen him in a while, so I figured he had moved on while I wasn't looking. As we come around a bend in the path, and FINALLY find an opening suitable for fishing, who was sitting there but the guy in the kayak. He was barely 15 feet offshore. Greaaat.....Come all this way and this guy is parked in the only accessible spot. I asked him if he had any luck, exchanged a few pleasantries, and then he said, "hey why don't you guys take this spot, I can fish from anywhere", and he moved on. I was really impressed, and there are some good people out there....Or maybe I was just lucky.
  8. Went out today and it was a lot of fun....a ton of hiking around Rico until we got our bearings, but I ended up with a small pickerel and a small LMB. Not bad I suppose, but the bites were there. Sdaversa, do you fish from shore when you go out? I was wondering what kind of access you usually have when you head out, since when I'm in MA I'm fishing from shore.
  9. Thank you, i'll be mapping those to check them out. I'm not heading out until Saturday, so more suggestions welcome! I'll be sure to let you know how it goes.
  10. I just saw Watson Pond / Lake Sabbatia, anyone ever fish those with any luck? (but it may be out of season to get into the park)
  11. I'll be up visiting friends and family over the weekend. Would anyone have some recommendations in the Taunton Area? (24, 495) Looking at Google maps shows that lot of the lakes in the area have houses all along them. I'm not looking for anyone's secret spot, But I would like to find something with decent shore access and a chance to land some Bass. I'm looking to break a drought a friend of mine has been having. Thanks a lot!!
  12. I have been using Gamakatsu offset shank with the round bend for a little while now. But I've been seeing a very similar hook with an O'shaunessy bend. They're so similar, the only difference seems to be a slight angle at the bottom. What's the benefit of one over the other?
  13. That's like a cartoon! I couldn't even imagine catching something that big....Very nice!!
  14. Same, on sat and sunday.......Got a few hard bites, and reeled in a couple Pickerel. I blame myself for the missed hooksets... But yea, still need to take it SUPER SLOW...
  15. Thanks for all the responses. We're all set now. He's leaning towars the Pflueger.
  16. Red, that's absolutely what i'll do.. But it sounds like the Trion is the clearn winner here... THANK YOU to all who too kthe time to lend a hand. As always, it's appreciated.
  17. That's what i'd recommend if he wants to push it a bit, (I have 2 presidents) but really just guiding him to base / entry level for someone that won't be too serious about it.
  18. I am looking around for a friend of mine. He'll definitely be more of a weekend angler, and probably head out only a handful of times with me, and then some with his girls. That being said, i'm sure he's not looking to break the bank on gear. He's looking between $30 - $50. I was looking around at Dick's Sporting goods, and saw 2 I thought would be a good fit for him. Pfleuger Trion Size 30 & an Abu Garcia Cardinal SX size 20 (they both looked to be the same size, comparitively (I wish sizes were standard).....Both come in around $40. But they felt smooth, reviews were decent on both. Does anyone have any experience on either of these?
  19. 50's all next week, guys. A few days of rain, but that'll help get rid of a lot of the ice too..... We're almost there!
  20. Very very true. And that price is right in my wheelhouse.
  21. Yea, after looking through all of these I feel like the 6' option is really the best way to go. I'll try the old ugly stik we have and see how that works for him this spring.
  22. Yup, that's exactly why I was asking. Budget for this? I'd have to look a bit deeper to see what's reasonable. It's been a long winter and a lot has been spent already to satisfy the urge to fish. 6' maybe be ok. I'm going to try the older rod with him which is 6' and pour through that list you suggested. I didn't look at BP since there isn't one near me and I prefer to buy rods in person. (bad luck buying online). BUt i'll be near one in a couple weeks, so now is the time to do the research. Thank you.
  23. Looking for a 5' (or so) spinning rod for my Son. He's 7, and says the longer rods feel a bit heavy (awkward) for him. I was wondering what direction you guys would lean in. I can always put his new reel on the old ugly stik rod he was using last year (which is 6'). I'd really like him to start casting himself and being comfortable with it, and the longer rods just aren't comfortable for him. He's tall, but hasn't been fishing very long. I just want to get him something that will work well and will help promote the sport, and not frustrate him. I also want it to be able to handle a small bass (1.5-3lbs) in the off chance he hooks up with one, which is what we primarily fish for. thanks Rich
  24. I did call Powell directly too. The gentleman I spoke with said it wouldn't be a problem, and made no offer to fix it. Either way, it's going back and it'll be fine in the end .
  25. I'm sending it back. I know some people wouldn't care, but like someone else said, if it's new, it should be in NEW condition. Given the no warranty, (not like you'd use warranty for a guide) and potential for something happening later on, if something DOES happen i'd rather it be my fault than something I was eyeballing on day 1. Thanks for all the opinions.
