  1. Thanks everyone....and yes, I threw the pink fluke a few hours later! haha.
  2. This sounds weird, but my eyelashes rub the inside of most sunglasses, so finding a pair can be tricky....Best bet is to keep trying them on in person.
  3. First off, I love fishing with my Son. I find nothing better than heading out with him, and seeing him do well. Today is his first Monday off after school ended, so we went to a local spot near where I live. We had been there the past couple days, and the bite has been tough. He managed to catch something yesterday, while I was skunked, and then the bite shut off completely. This morning we went out, and threw everything we had at them. Nothing. Not a bite or nibble. He had managed to snag his line twice under rocks, and once in a tree, losing 3 hooks, plastics etc. Not wanting to tie anything else on and do a little fishing myself, I put a pink fluke on his line. Thinking..."yea, throw this....It shouldn't get hung up in anything" I quickly showed him how i'd fish it, and let him have at it. I really didn't expect much, and figured I could get a few more casts in before we had to go. Less than a minute later he says "I've got something!" Sure enough, there's a really nice bass heading towards the surface. He reels him in, yup! He landed a really nice 4lber. (Bigger than anything i've caught to date in the year we've been fishing). I suppose that's Karma showing me anything can happen, even on a lure I had zero confidence in. haha.
  4. I personally don't, but I know why someone would. For me it's about doing a complete 180 from everything else in my life. I can listen to music while I work, and having 3 kids, it's ALWAYS noisy. I like to unplug and just appreciate the outdoors. Also, I want to know if someone is walking up behind me.
  5. I KNOW this was asked around the time I joined. I simply can't find the thread, and I don't remember the answer. Every reel I have purchased has been from Cabela's, they've always come in a box. I just picked up a cheaper spare reel from DSG, and it's in a clamshell, but I have I have seen the same model in a box. Same Reel, different packaging. Can I just assume that is determined by the seller, how they want to present their merchendise, and DSG probably prefers to hang their stuff on racks? Maybe that's the difference? thanks Rich
  6. Thank you all for the responses. I have a bit more research to do, but definitely have some good info to look at.. Thanks again.
  7. Just found this, and has good rod suggestions. Apologies for the double post, but my search for "Jig" had zero results, which I find really strange. http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/138775-jig-rod/?hl=jigging#entry1544646
  8. Hey all, i'll be looking to purchase a new jigging rod and reel, and from what i've read a 6.5'+ MH-H / Fast Action rod would do the trick. My budget is $300, give or take a few bucks. I was looking at the Tatula Rod & Reel because I have heard good things about them. I was wondering if there were any other options in that rage that I should consider? (In that range. "For $100 more you could..." Is not an option. ) Any suggestions (and WHY you like it) would be most welcome. Thanks! Rich
  9. Yes, I've picked up line, and boxes. The worst is glass. Q: Who the hell breaks bottles all over the place when they're fishing? A: Apparently lots of people.
  10. Maybe the biggest issue I have with others. It really ticks me off to see all sorts of crap left around, especially in my favorite spots. Which reminds me.....I need to find new spots.
  11. Another CT resident here to say welcome aboard!!
  12. I just ordered a handful of weights and jigs from Siebert, they arrived today. The prices were outstanding, and the service matched. I'm looking forward to getting home and checking them all out.
  13. 3/0......but from the sounds of it I should try the screw lock!
  14. A bunch of lures were backordered. They shipped on the estimated arrival date. They were upfront and it was not a hassle. A good experience overall.
  15. I'd like to know WHY spinnerbait is the overwhelming option? What is it about the wind / turbulance in the water that makes it so effective at that time? Rich
  16. It was 8lb Trilene XL Mono.
  17. I had been using strike king Bullet weights for the past year, and have not had any issues with them. I picked up 1 pack of Eco Pro from Cabela's since they were a couple bucks cheaper, I figured how big of a difference could it be? Since using them i've had two lines snap right at the hook. I know the line snapped since there was no kinking from tying a knot, so I know it didn't just let go. What are the chances the weight is causing abrasion and weakening the line? I am not pegging it. I know i've lost 1 very good fish because of it, so i'm trying to figure out if it's bad luck or something else. Thoughts? Rich
  18. No. I have the job I want and have worked very hard for. If fishing were my job, I don't think I would appreciate it as much when I can get out. It's such a departure from my work week, I need it to stay that way. As for "Game Planning for life", there are so many twists and turns, ups and downs, I guess it's good to have a plan, but be flexible enough to adapt when your "Plan" goes off course.
  19. Casting sidearm under some trees while bank fishing. I didn't hear my Son coming up behind me and it smacked him pretty hard across the back of the head on a cast. He doesn't sneak up on me anymore. (but I felt horrible).
  20. You should still protect your skin. "Tan" doesn't protect you from all the harmful rays of the sun.
  21. Same thing. I'm always a bit disappointed when I pull one of these out, and yes, in my experience they are always extremely aggressive. They're the reason I bought my fish grip and long tongs to de-hook them.
  22. I was fishing from shore today during lunch, and there really are no other spots for me near where I was standing. This guy on a boat was maybe 300 yards away, making his way down the shore, casting and floating, casting and floating....all the way down.. Of course he ends up (And stays) right where I am... I KNOW he saw me because he asked me if I had any luck, and what I was fishing. I could have cast my line right into his boat. WTH is wrong with people? You're in a boat on this ENORMOUS lake, give me my little patch please. /rant
  23. I'm mainly interested in catching LMB & SMB there.
