  1. All of these answers were awesome, thanks everybody!
  2. Hey Guys and Gals, During this cold NJ winter when everything is frozen, I am teaching myself how to pitch and flip. so I have 2 questions, when you do the wrist motion from movie the rod tip high then low, is that a slow motion, or is it more of a quick, flicking motion. Also how far can you accurately Pitch? Thanks guys!
  3. I suppose its just like finding any other fish then, look for its food I have heard live lining lake herring can be a pretty successful way of doing it, so I would either do that, or get a something that looks like one Thanks guys
  4. Thanks very much, thinking of heading to Hopatong and going for muskie or Hybrids
  5. First time I caught a Striper in the ocean it was like that one second still rod, next second BOOM.
  6. In NJ we have a couple lakes that host these fish, and I was wondering if anyone has any knowledge or articles on feeding habits, where they like to stay, what they go for etc. Thanks Gents
  7. Does anyone know which lakes allow gas boats, my popop has a Boston whaler outrage, we usually use it for salt water but we're thinking about putting it in freshwater. Thanks guys.
  8. I have a Pro qualifier that is a 6:4:1, but I hear a lot of people saying slower is better for cranks, and also I only have one rod set up I use actively and id like to have two to take with me (its my bait-casting set up, once I switched from spinning, I almost never want to go back, there is just something so satisfying about using a bait-caster) So I figure I would build another set up supremely for cranking since I rely on it so heavily and have the other work as my all around other bait rod (Lews is a bit out of my price range, and since I am building something I have never done before id like to keep it inexpensive but not so much it sacrifices quality (I know, thats a little contradicting) but if I can spend 100$ on reel and 130$ on rod, thats not so bad.
  9. I was thinking of mixing a ST Croxis (this http://www.***.com/St_Croix_Premier_Series_Cranking_Rods/descpage-SCPSCCR.html) MED/HVY version with A Abu Garcia Orra Winch (This http://www.***.com/Abu_Garcia_Orra_Winch_Casting_Reel/descpage-AGW.html) I find myself really enjoying the use of crankbaits, so I was going to make something more set towards them, while I do look extensively at reviews before I get anything, I was curious if you guys have heard anything about either of these products? good or bad. Also to anyone who has a cranking setup, show it off, let me see what you guys use to throw your favorite crankbait. Thanks.
  10. So far I have given this a read which seemed like a pretty valuable source of info http://www.umpquavalleybassmasters.com/bassbook.htm http://www.getsomebass.com/largemouthbass_bio.html So what I am getting which is Structure=Bass and Structure+cover=more bass and that the bigger fish (over 12in) prefers the deeper water, now its a matter of finding the structure and cover, which is what I need to work on, I have topo maps for most of the lakes in NJ and can be found here http://www.njfishandwildlife.com/lakemaps.htm (just incase anyone is curious) Ill give the C rig a try next time I go out, any recommendation for the weight of the sinker I should use?
  11. Thats a really interesting concept, and while I should still do research on how to find structure/cover, this would make it a whole lot easier, ill have to do some research on the product first.
  12. I 100% agree with this, and ive done some reading, just not enough, thanks very much for the information and suggestion guys!
  13. what time where you there sunday? I was there 4pm-8pm
  14. Good ol New Jersey yah know I actual found that Topo map and had a picture of it on my phone as a reference, but I had trouble finding it with what I brought out (I had some deep diving cranks but it would be easier to find with a worm) Also is there a certain depth they will be staying, or do they have no preference, I know they tend to go deeper if its brighter but how deep is that? Thanks for the help guys
  15. Hey everybody, So I am new at kayak fishing, and I took a trip to assunpink lake NJ today and was enjoying the use of my new toy that has taken me from the forced to shore lifestyle I was used to. But something I did not understand, Where do I find the bloody fish? I have been so used to shore fishing and just fishing where I could and not complaining about it, but with this kayak, I can go anywhere, but I do not know where to go? I do not have a fish finder, and I am not gonna have the funds to get one for some time, so is there someway of knowing where the fish are other than fishing everywhere? I understand fishing cover, but I cant fish structure if I do not know where it is. I appreciate any advice anyone has to give, and any suggestions o articles that may help with this. Thanks,
  16. ive been trying some tubes for smallies, no luck so far, good to know that you had some good fishing, what were you pulling from under the docks? I wanna try it but the weeds around here have been particularly bad and even weedless rigs come back with weeds
  17. Hey guys, so I am staying at a house off Lake Seneca, just above Valois Point, and have been fishing from the docks and fishing off kayak about a mile up and a mile down, hitting the docks, the weed breaks, everything.....and I cannot catch a single thing, I am using, crankbaits, that go 1-4ft and 6-10ft, white spinnerbaits, inline spinners, stick baits, super spooks, lippless cranks,(from kayak and dock) and minnows and bobber(from dock) does anyone have any suggestions or recommendations that may help with this situation, perhaps a new bait, or maybe advice on how to fish from kayak ( I am quite new at it) I am going to be reading some articles so if you guys know any that might help it would be much appreciated Thanks guys!
  18. I have surprisingly never had a bite off from a pickerel, even though I get them in NJ all the time, but rather be safe then out one of my good lures
  19. Thats a very good point, so I think ill try the Surflon micro. I am gonna be using moving baits so I think Ill be safe, Thanks for the info!
  20. Any suggestion on a leader that will keep the pike at bay but not spook the bass, or is that just a fact of life Also thanks for the info!
  21. Another question, should I use a leader if fishing for bass in Pike waters? because I use 30# braid when bass fishing but I am going to a new spot that is know to have pike. I have been looking at Surflon Micro Supreme and it looks good, but I am not sure if it is necessary. Thanks.
  22. Hey guys, I know this seems like a very naive question, but I really dont do any kind of dead-sticking, The last time I went catfishing I was 5. I was gonna dead stick for really whatever takes the bait. so here are my questions 1- when using a deadstick, do I want the bait to sit on the bottom, or hover mid depth? 2- what do you use for bait, and for what species do you use that bait for? 3-I was contemplating a Okuma Avenger Baitrunner, it has really good reviews and I can imagine if I turn the bait runner, and something takes it, I can let it run and then deactivate it and it would make a good hook set, what do you think? Once again thanks guys, I have been out of country for 2 weeks and I am coming back to the states soon (cant fish here) and I am getting cabin fever. Ive been doing nothing but reading, hearing, and watching fishing, so when I get back I am hitting the water like a freight train (but not really like a freight train because that would scare the fish)
  23. Thanks very much for the information, when I go ill be 30 miles away from a Bass Pro shop, so If I wanna try other stuff ill be close
  24. Also if I have wire, do I have a chance of getting other fish like largemouth, smallies, etc... or will they be spooked by it?
  25. Question though, if I am running a lure that requires some finess such as a Heddon Super spook (walking the dog), will the steel wire effect how the action works
