  1. If you want to keep a small bass in an aquarium then go for it. I did it as a kid along with bluegill and they were always very hardy. You just have to make a trip to the pet store and pick up a dozen or so goldfish every week. You can also supplement them with worms you find under rocks or when it rains, as well as bugs. You could also buy minnow trap and drop it in a pond or lake and feed it those. The point is it's not as complicated as people on here are making it seem. At least not any more than any other freshwater fish. Feed it, but not too much and change out at least half the water once a week. Having said all that, is it illegal to keep an undersized bass? Yes.
  2. You guys are awesome! I knew someone in here would remember this stuff. Team9nine, that 2nd video is exactly what I was thinking of with the surface activity. It's so unorthodox. I can really see some conditions and certain times of year on certain lakes where this would be a killer.
  3. I have vague memories of some old techniques for bass and I'm hoping one of you can help fill in the blanks. They both involved a very long rod, maybe in the 10' to 12' range. If I remember correctly one was sort of the precursor to flipping and pitching where you basically dropped the lure straight down into the cover with the longer rod. The other involved moving parallel to the bank and basically just holding the lure (no idea what the lure was) at the surface and shaking it right at the edge of the grass or whatever cover was near the bank. Do either of these sound familiar? Anyone have the names of these techniques or know any details? I would love to research this more but have no idea what to search for and Google hasn't turned anything up using the small amount if info I do have.
  4. Here you go. http://kayakfishingblog.com/2016/01/four-tips-for-first-time-kayak-buyers/
  5. I really like the look of some of those colors and the price. Wish someone could comment on them too. I would like to know the same things about their softness and sink rate.
  6. That place looks beautiful! I am in Northern KY and have told myself I would get up there for years and still haven't. Usually when it's this hot like this I have the best luck with soft plastics. On really tough/hot days downsizing to something like a baby senko can be just the ticket.
  7. As long as it is a cool weather situation with a warming trend then the shallow, protected areas that are in full sun will draw in fish. What you describe is a pattern I have successfully fished a few times this year. As others have said, this depends on a lot of factors but the two main factors seem to be long stretches of uninterrupted sun and light stain to clear water.
  8. The best thing is just to make sure you are using the wind to your advantage whenever possible. I will usually try to start on the up wind side of any bank I am working and let the wind be my trolling motor as I drift parallel to the bank. Even in a pedal kayak I do this because equates to more time fishing and less time positioning.
  9. If you compare it to what a lot of us pay for a kayak of similar length without a trolling motor or trailer then yes I would say its worth it. Once you get off the bank you will never go back.
  10. It's hard to beat bass fishing from a kayak! I have been doing it for over 10 years now with no plans to buy a boat or change a thing really. Here's my latest addition to the fleet. Its a Native Watecraft, Mariner. The pedal drive as made a world of difference on some of the bigger bodies of water. Here's some of my better fish from last year, all from a kayak of course.
  11. Whatever you choose just make sure you try it out first. There are such a wide spectrum of small boats/kayaks/canoes these days that you may love certain features of one and hate things about another. Often times these things won't make themselves evident until you've used the boat. If your considering a kayak there are a few message boards like this one loaded with very helpful info. I don't know the rules about posting other websites so I won't post one here but if you google search it you'll come up with plenty to keep you busy. I'm a "yak angler" (hint, hint) myself so I would of course suggest looking in that direction.
  12. Thanks guys. I will say that the knock off 1.5's and 2.5's I've painted have had a nice action and seem to be pretty consistant. They don't have the same exact action as a LC though. I don't mean that in a bad or good way, its action is just different.
  13. My experience has also been that many places sell LC knock offs but nowhere sells REAL LC blanks. Here's a couple I did a month or so ago.
  14. The cat using the crocadile's own hunting technique against it is what amazes me. Ah the irony....
  15. Wow those are impressive! You should absolutely slay the smallies on those man!

    I Pad

Does it wear out your phone battery quickly leaving your gps on like that?
  17. I understand the need for sensitivity in a soft plastics or jig rod but how big of a roll does it play in cranking?
  18. Gitzit tubes are sold the new Field and Stream store in Crescent Springs, KY. Not sure if they sell them elsewhere or not.
  19. I think this article is well written and will help you out a lot. Just remember to be honest with yourself about how YOU will be using your kayak and try your hardest to demo before you buy. http://www.paynespaddlefish.com/2013/12/peer-pressure-kayak-purchases.html
  20. The most simple way I heard it explained was all living things have a certain amount of heartbeats so if a bass stays colder for longer portions of the year then it will take longer to use up its heartbeats.
  21. Thats the same fish. I have actually caught the same 16 inch smallie with a gash near its tail twice within 20 minutes on the same inline spinner. If this doesn't illustrate the importance of catch and release I don't know what does.
  22. All braid here too. I use a mono leader on almost everything and I'm currently converting over to floro.
  23. I usually fish once a week but if I have a tournament I will sometimes not fish for a couple of weeks leading up to it just to keep myself fresh and "hungry". But I will prefish the day before when I can, to get the most up to date info on where the fish are.
  24. I guess I'm a quantity guy. I subscribe to the theory that a day filled with average sized fish will usually result in one or two big fish too. I still get a huge kick out of catching a 12" fish so until that thrill goes away I won't avoid them.
  25. I think you could drift dragging a tube just about anywhere in that lake and catch fish. That place is amazing.
