  1. Never considered it. I figure they're designed with that weight/drag, and wouldn't think that the action would be right. It has taken a few years, but I've gradually become more and more comfortable fishing trebles around laydowns. I always carry a couple plug-knockers along and that also helps with the confidence.
  2. What happens when you get snagged?
  3. I've tipped mine a couple times. Never had much leak except some 'wetness' on the side of the battery. Both times, the battery wouldn't take a charge until it sat for a few hours. I guess the solution needs to settle. Battery works as good as new, now. However, I don't think I'm going to taste it next time it happens.
  4. I love to be on the water at sunrise. However, I have always had better luck at sundown. Dawn is a little more relaxed, though. At sunset, I tend to press and pressure myself a little more because I want to get every last fish in the boat before it's too dark to get back....or get back safely, anyway
  5. What's been working this week, Poppa?
  6. I plan to go out of Fountainhead on Saturday.
  7. I have a very good friend who gets into similar funks. Their weapon of choice: Adderall. Only half kidding. It doesn't take medication -- just a commitment to focus. It's really all been said above. Take a little time to study the water and conditions. Apply what you've learned here. I've been making a checklist of baits and presentations that I consult before I open the tackle bag or worm binder. Its very easy to overlook/forget the perfect bait and terminal tackle if you wait until after you start digging to think about what to throw.
  8. I tried Yo-Zuri Hybrid for first time this year and really like it. Because of the current rebate, I also bought some P-Line CX from BPS for about a $1. Only spooled it two weeks ago, but I love it. I have to do some more comparison w/Yo-Zuri, but I like both. Far better than either 'regular' mono or flouro
  9. What outfit do you represent, Bobby? Pics? Weights? Colors? Sorry, I'm not yet familiar enough with manufacturers or vendors. Shipping?
  10. Wow, DJ. Trusting soul. I don't think I'd leave even a jon boat parked on the street. No a lot of problems in my neighborhood, but still..... I'd like to find someone close with extra space in their yard/driveway, etc. I'd pay the commercial rate if it was close, secure and I could plug it in -- bonus if I could wash it and do minor work there.
  11. No idea if it's an option for you, but last summer when our pier went cold, my wife and I bought waders, went to a different part of the cove at dusk, walked out into the 'surf' and went to the fish. Pretty cool hooking a bass while standing 20-30 feet from shore. Had a great few nights until sunset got to be later than the park closing time. We need to find another access this summer.
  12. Funny, PT. Similar story here. Many years ago I bought a cheap Daiwa spinning combo. Broke the rod tip first time out. Took it back to the store the same day and never looked at another Daiwa again. But after reading about the 'T's on here, I bought one from TW and should have it in hand later today.
  13. Add me to the list. My recycle tip: after the head is hook-worn and won't stay up, cut off an inch and put use the tail on a scrounger.
  14. Resurrecting this one to see if anyone has any additional or new info on off-site storage between Woodbridge and Fort Belvoir. I'm in the market for a boat, but hate that I'm in a townhouse with no option to keep it on my property. I've talked with Holly Acres and Gateway. Both have 19 foot space for around $80 (no electric.) HA is close, but I don't like that they don't have 24hr access. I'm also agonizing about size. I want 18'+ to get on Potomac, but I am liking the Occoquan rez more and more every time I fish it.
  15. Got a few from my father and grandfather. I put them on the wall (using an open spoon display cabinet) with some other old lures. Just couldn't stand the thought of losing them.
  16. Anybody have advice or links on tuning propellers on prop baits? I recently purchased the Heddon Torpedo 3-pack and all three run differently -- all fairly poorly, in my uneducated opinion. I tweaked and twisted, but got no action that I liked....apparently none that the bass liked, either. Particularly frustrating that I couldn't get them to a place where the props would spin at anything less than a hard jerk or fairly fast retrieve. I think I want to work these a lot slower than they want to be worked. Then, even on a faster retrieve, the torque would turn them over on their side. I want to like these, but my one morning with them was rather maddening....and fish-less.
  17. Thanks, Tim. I've been looking at adds and dealers off and on for three years, but only seriously for last couple months. However, this one is more boat than I'd been considering previously and had no good idea how to value it. The sign says $11K, the owner says $10, but sounds like he's willing to work down from that. Older guy who has only put it in the yard on a sleepy highway with a sign - I haven't seen it on Craigslist or any other listings yet.
  18. Thank you! Only problem now is that I'm a LOT more excited about that boat. Might have to take a test drive this weekend.
  19. Spent much of last Friday on O Rez, renting a boat out of Fountainhead. Had my best quantity day ever for that body of water. Lost count, but it was well over 30. Never seen anything like it on the Occoquan. Nearly all were on weightless five inch flukes. No monsters, but few dinks. Lot of fun out there.
  20. I use a worm binder (about 1 ft sq.) I love it. It is a Field and Stream branded model. Looks like this one, but I don't see new ones on the web. I'm sure BPS, TW and Dicks have something comparable. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Field-And-Stream-Worm-Binder-/291133806646?_trkparms=aid%3D222006%26algo%3DSIC.FITP%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D21395%26meid%3D6488173176550694014%26pid%3D100011%26prg%3D9409%26rk%3D7%26rkt%3D10%26sd%3D111212134223&_trksid=p2047675.l2557&nma=true&si=URm8wt2YUSU39Bwl7rhLVPQ1lVc%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc
  21. Hope I don't come off as an ass, but I really cringe at the thought that fisherman would come here for questions on their state/local fishing regs. I see it as a responsibility and an obligation to familiarize yourself with the regs where you fish. If I'm mistaken and you've read the regs and want opinions on interpretation, I apologize for the tone. What do your regs say?
  22. Where's the Kelley Boat Blue Book?? I've been 'casually' looking for my first boat for some time now. It's crazy the range of asking prices you come across. Now that I've found one that I'm interested in a second look, I don't know how to begin to value it. (It is a 2008 Tracker Pro Team 190TX with 40 hours on the motor.) Also, aside from Craigslist, do you suggest any 'decent' used boat web classifieds web sites? Thanks!
  23. I rarely have the nerve to throw trebles from the bank anymore. If it seems like a crank is called for, I'll try Storms, flukes, hollowbody swimbaits and other fish-like plastics that aren't as fond of eating submerged wood.
  24. Bassresource has actually done a lot to boost my confidence in parts of my tackle box. Things such as detailed descriptions from RW, or Gene's videos....and a wide range of posts from others - mostly the specifics on presentations. Since I've been here I've caught bass on lures that I'd long since buried in the bottom of the tackle bag. I have to agree that, for me at least, confidence cannot be understated. Without confidence (and/or some recent education), there is little chance that I'll present a bait well enough to catch anything.
  25. I'm left handed. But right-armed. (Write left handed, but golf, bowl, bat rightie.) Not the least bit ambidextrous. All my handles are on the right. When my wife hands me a rod with handle on the left, I can barely function with it.
