  1. Thanks! Bought pliers yesterday
  2. Nice fish! That yellow perch's pretty amazing too. Good luck this fall!
  3. Hi! I found this forum by accident, and boy am I glad I did!! Can't believe the wealth of knowledge and experience here. I'm retired, Navy vet, had jobs in electronics, linework for a cable co., and nursing. I'm pretty much a self -taught angler, but I've always wanted to fish with others with more experience. None of the men in my life has liked to fish, only my dad! From time to time I hire a guide in the Belgrade area up here and benefit enormously just from one day on the water. I have one son, Brian, who used to pat me on the head and smile when I'd get my gear......I'd pat him on the head when he got his computer.......it was our running joke I also fly fish (learning), write, volunteer at nursing homes, putter with wood and now generally get up when I want to. Am building a solar house I designed ( beats chest ;D ) out in the woods......slowly! I put in the foundation in 2008 but have since hired crews as my income has allowed 'cause of injury. Next spring I'm headed out there to stay in it and finish it as I can. A labor of love for sure. I fish just about every day during Maine's short season. I take my kayak and go all over the place. But one dream is to spend a week in the south fishing for those Southern bass!! Glad to be here!
  4. Good to see another kayak fisherman! Welcome!
  5. I will try a jig tomorrow in the am! Thanks guys......this really helped. I'm guessing you're right about the pressure. I'm always the only one there, which is good because sometimes I talk to myself Robdog, I'm hoping you're wrong but I sense you might be right on. I see plenty of fry-of-the year being chased by slightly larger bass in the shallows. There are pickerel but no sunfish etc. Gonna read up and do some fishing
  6. From your pic, looks like you do ok fishing from the bank! J Franco's right. Once you're out there you'll want a triton
  7. I know a pond (a couple acres, 28 ' deep at most, riprap on shore @ one end, sandy center, relatively clear, shallow @ the other with lots of wood, lily pads....whew!) where the bite's always on. Has been for years. I've caught nothing over 3 lb, but am guessing there are bigger bass. It's inaccessible except to kayaks and canoes. I've used everything and can't miss, although I do adjust lures for conditions. Why is this? Do any of you have a pond like this? Not that I'm complaining
  8. I usually wave and ask something general like "how's it going?" if they look in my direction, but not if they're stopped casting ( quiet for fish). I watch body language. Hey! Had great experience meeting another lone female angler. She was shore fishing and lost a lure. Gave her one of mine.......exchanged #'s and may go fishing together. I enjoy it so much when I can fish with somebody more experienced. I'm hungry to learn. It's always worth it to me to be friendly, even if rebuffed
  9. There's no bass ever like that first one. I'm new on this site and can tell you there isn't a better place to get feedback than here. Ooh, look! Here comes the bait monkey!!
  10. Wow. Didn't even consider how sitting low in a 'yak changes the deal! I'm gonna slow down with that Sammy. You're in Louisiana. I *** you. All the cool places to fish and to paddle in. Hey I want to really thank all you guys for this advice and opinion. Being self-taught, there's so much I don't know. And I'm working on the ton of fish!
  11. Hm. Secretly many women don't like to be beaten by a woman either! But I don't think the great female anglers are in that category, or the best male elites.....
  12. Went happily to a little local pond with clear water to practice with a Sammy and other topwaters. There are lots of bass all over the place. Threw a skitterpop at the end of the day and bam! I thought I had a big 'un! Well, I did, kinda.....pulled it up and there were two bass on the pop! I was so astonished I held them up by the lure. After I released the first one, you guessed it....the other flopped and drove the treble deep into my finger. I'll only put the pic of the two fish on here, not the one of my finger. At the ER they numbed it and dug it out. And I'm getting it with the Sammy! All in all a good day.
  13. Is this just a die-hard tradition? I have no doubt that the officials in charge of the big ones respect the abilities of female anglers. Do too few women attempt to qualify? Why the formation of separate association? Elaine, if you're out there would love your thoughts!
  14. I think you hit it....I've been trying to get it to act like a spook! Thanks I'm headed out tomorrow and will stick with it. Other suggestions here help alot too. My rod isn't whippy for sure! And J Franco, your comment about cadence......that's something I'll practice. And now I need to go to DSG to get myself a skitterwalk on the way......
  15. Thanks all! Going to the lake today and will practice. I'm going to a pond today with clear calm waters.......great place to watch lure action and learn. I think I was using wrong rod and wrong line
  16. I've read on here that LC Sammy is a favorite go to bait for many. Took mine out again today and was frustrated. I fish the Spook, torpedo etc really slow.....can't seem to get the rhythm with the Sammy except way fast. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?
  17. I use circle hooks too. I use one of the tungsten drop shot weights in a big gitzit and put my rod in a holder, which frees me up to fish out the other side of the boat with something else.
  18. Hi Bill! Remember on Star Trek all the female officers are called "sir"? Female actors are no longer called actresses usually, but called actors? My personal preference is to be called a fisherman. This word has slowly lost it's gender connotations.....gender being inconsequential here. That's why I'd love to see all the tournaments welcoming women. Thanks for asking. Hey, glad you got to hit 'em the other day!

    Sept. 10 Togus Pond Maine

Double I caught at Li'l Togus Pond just before driving a treble up to the bend in my finger, sigh
  20. From the album: Sept. 10 Togus Pond Maine

Threw to a boil and whammo! Pic taken just before fish flopped and drove a treble into the fool holding the lure. They yanked it in ER. I released em finally and they were laughing. Lost my skitterpop but had super day!
  21. Just read this....it's two years later! But Grampa, if you're still out there, never a truer word was spoken
  22. Me too. Freeport
  23. Yep. Lurking.
