  1. Just so you know, the plastic worm is the ultimate bass catching lure ever made. Now, it may not be that great where you fish, but day in day out, across the whole country, nothing produces better than the plastic worm (soft plastics).
  2. I subscribe to a lot of cable channels and of course record a lot of fishing shows and watch a lot of them since they come on January 1st and I'm usually, like most of you, going crazy waiting for spring to show up. But after five or six years of watching the shows it's finally sinking in their fishing relates very little to my fishing, even the BassMaster tournaments relate very little to my fishing. The only show I find relatable, as others have said, is Major League Fishing. I used to think watching the shows could help me a little by informing me of new ways to fish. Now I doubt even that. With the internet, forums and Youtube, I learn far more and far earlier on the net than from the fishing shows. The only other show I really enjoy along with Major League Fishign is Saltwater Experience because those two guys don't push lures much, if at all. I would say the educational value of the fishing shows is around 0.0001% per episode. Hook and Look might be 0.0002%. I am interested in how well Major League Fishing is doing. Has anybody heard if they are making money from this series? I'm not positive, but I don't think there are any other two hour programs on the Outdoor Channel besides MLF and theatrical movies.
  3. Haven't watched the whole thing but Wheeler is on a hot streak!
  4. Point taken. Still, I only paid $50 for this and here I am wanting to be legal AND give money to the state to register the thing and now I have to do this extra work to register it. There were numbers on the boat and I gave it to the lady and she ran them and nothing came up.
  5. I have Friday off. So I ran to the local motor vehicle bureau to get my little john boat registered so I can put numbers on it so I can go to Rockville Lake in Parke county and be legal while I use a trolling motor on it. I only paid $50.00 for this john boat last year at a yard sale and it thing is super light and does not leak one bit. I get there and there was only one or two other people doing business. The girl behind the counter who is doing nothing says "Take a number!" I look at her in bewilderment. I'm basically the only person standing there and I have to take a number? Whatever, I take one. Then tell her I want to register my little john boat. Nope! I need a bill of sale and inspection from an officer. So, I only paid $50 for this thing from a nice lady and her husband last year. There was no bill of sale or title. It's a little old john boat that suits me fine. So here I go trying to be legal and trying to give the state of Indiana money but nope - I have to go jump thru hoops to get this thing registered. So what am I suppose to do? Go back to the house that I bought it from and have them sign the bill of sale? seems stupid but I guess I'll have to do that. Ridiculous.

  7. All my big bass (not that many really) except one has been on the Texas Rig and all my big bass have come on spinning reels with ten pound/eight pound/six pound line and none on any line above ten pound. What have I been doing the last few years? Spending time messing around with baitcasters, I guess because I'm board. That means using heavier line than I like and heavier lures than I like. I've not caught any big bass on my baitcasters plus my fishing has become less fun. I need to go back to my bread and butter - Texas rigging worms, Yum-Dingers and lizards on six and eight pound line.
  8. Also, what's the deal with some manufacturers not putting the weight of the crankbaits on the packaging? I'm talking about Strike King specifically.
  9. Oh, I almost forgot - one of the best lines I've heard on TV ever, from Chris Lane: "I came all the way to Michigan, fifteen hours, and got nothing but one bite, and didn't even catch it!" Yeah, Lane got knocked out by Mike Tyson aka Mother Nature! I thought Poche was going to start banging his head on the boat like Iaconelli was doing a few weeks ago. Glad he stayed in control though and did not go nuts like Ike. lol.
  10. I just finished watching the new episode. I was going to start a new thread but I see everyone is are talking about it. Cool! Wow, what a great show! Every one was struggling in the first part and even a lot in the second part. It stayed super close. Seeing Chris Lane being crushed and not catching one fish was awesome! Not that I don't like Lane. I say it was awesome because I went out fishing Sunday afternoon and did not get one bite! MLF shows it like it is - those that are catching them, those that are catching a few and those that are getting crushed. It was fun seeing them struggle in the first and second parts, trying to figure it out. I figured one would find a hot spot and blow the others away but nope. I was sure Palaniuk was going to win. Then I kept watching Poche catch some and then more and more. At that time I was playing a little on my tablet and then looked back up at the TV and noticed he was in first place. Wow! That was so cool. I'll say this again - MLF is a great way for people to get to know the pro bass fishermen. The only thing I knew about Poche was that he was the one that got into that incident with Ish Monroe a few years ago. Besides that, he was just another nobody/pro in a large field of BassMaster fishermen. But after watching him today, he's now on my "like" list because of how/what he did in MLF. Scott Ashmore is another, I really enjoy watching him on MLF but besides MLF, I don't really know who he is except he fishes in FLW. Right now I would say MLF is one of the best shows on cable TV. Definitely the best show on The Outdoor Channel. I get over 200 cable channels and hardly watch any of that crap that's on those channels. MLF is one of the few shows I look forward to. Gotham (on Fox) and Agents of Shield (ABC) both are taking long breaks off TV which I find crazy. Saturday Night Live has been in repeats the last four or five weekends which is ridiculous. At least MLF is putting on new shows Saturday afternoons in the last part of winter and early spring.
  11. I know when MLF is on TV - every Saturday (and Fridays and Sundays) once the new year starts (January 1st) on the Outdoor Channel. I have no idea when the Bassmaster shows will be shown on ESPN2 because they are months after the Bassmaster events. In the time I've watched MLF, I've gotten to know the fishermen and their personalities (or TV personalities they put on). I don't get that when watching the Bassmaster shows. I give MLF credit - they push the individual competitor personalities. And I've said this before - I catch a lot of dinks. So to see them catch dinks like me - I like that! It's fun to watch who gets crushed in the MLF competitions. lol.
  12. MLF really hit on a good formula. I found my DVR recorded an FLW hour long tournament. I tried watching it and it was OK but I skipped thru most of it. With MLF, the field is much smaller and you get to know the competitors better.
  13. The local Walmart near me how has tungsten weights. This is the first time I've seen them carry tungsten weights.
  14. So did anybody watch the MLF final competition on Saturday? Wow, that was entertaining. That's the way it should be - six of the best top guns going at it, and everybody was close to the end except KVD. Mike Iaconelli was freaking out near the end, banging his head on the boat after catching a bass. lol. You got to give it to him for being entertaining. Way to go Iaconelli! Still, I was wondering how come we didn't see any of the lower guys go after a really big bass, say three or four pounds, and try to catch up to Iaconelli. Then I got to thinking, maybe there are no giant bass where they were fishing. Anyway, MLF is the best bass fishing competition on TV!
  15. I'm a fan of Major League Fishing. Now they have another show -MLF All Angles. I have to say I really like this show. It recaps the MLF competitions and shows some behind the scenes clips. I also like that it is only thirty minutes long. A lot of times I don't have time to watch the whole MLF two hour tournaments. But I do have time to watch this All Angles program. Way to go MLF! Whoever is behind MLF sure it doing a good job producing all those shows.
  16. Yep, pretty much explains how I fish from my kayak/canoe/bank.
  17. Yeah, the Super Walmart I go to changed a lot of their store around. Moved the fishing section and shrunk it some. Moved the magazine and DVD/video game section to the very back and more.
  18. I just got back from my local regular Walmart and they they had the same thing, in fact they had two kinds of Roboworms and that other Mann's lure. Roboworms and Mann's must be making a push to be in more stores or something. Anyway, Roboworms are the ultimate finesse worm and I love them.
  19. I went to Super Walmart today (Saturday) and as I usually do I headed to the fishing section. To my surprise I saw two lure companies I've never seen before at a Walmart. One was Mann's. Another was Roboworms. I don't think, in all the times I've been to Walmart, I've seen any Mann's lures. The lure they had for sale and I bought was the Reel N Shad. The other, Roboworms, was a big shock. I see them for sale at Gander Mountain but I've never seen the for sale at Walmart. They had one pack of 4 1/2" straight tail finesse worms and the packaging was a resealable package, the kind other companies soft plastics come in. Of course I bought that too. Anyway, this was really shock to see these two companies for the first time at Walmart.
  20. Drop-shot or ned rig.
  21. Wow, that is really blasphemous!
  22. I just picked up my second St. Croix rod but my first made in the U.S.A. rod, the Premier, a seven foot casting rod. I've only used it out in the yard and bank fishing yesterday but I have to say I love the feel of that thing and how it casts. Seeing a sticker/print of "made in USA" is sweet too. My ohter St. Croix is a Triumph spinning rod which is a great rod too, but not made in the U.S.A. It's nice having a U.S.A. made rod considering all my other rods are made in China or Mexico.
  23. Here's a big blasphemy - I've almost forgotten how to tie the palomar knot. And, I don't think I tied it at all last year because I've been using the Trilene knot almost exclusively. Another blasphemy - I have a dozen or so Japanese crankbaits and none of them have hit the water! And another - I hate fluorocarbon and don't like braid either. I'm a mono/ copolymer fisherman. And... although I use crankbaits, I think they are mostly a gimmick/macho man lure. Finally, I don't like big pitching jigs because they never work where I fish.
  24. No doubt my Shimano Sahara 2500 spinning reels. I've caught a lot of fish on those those reels, from small to large bass. Baitcasting - last year I picked up my second baitcaster, my first Lews, at Gander Mountaint for $130.00 That thing casts like a dream. So I will say the Lews baitcaster is my favorite baitcaster.
  25. I kind of think its cool that Gopher Tackle is a one man show. I feel like, when I'm using those little jigs, they are specially made for me and no other yahoos fishing around me probably has them. I say, cool! Yeah, its a little piece of led with a little hook on it. But, its made in the U.S. and not sold in the big stores. To me at least, that's special.
