  • About Me
I live in Spotsylvania VA and my primary fishing waters are Lake Anna, Potomac River, and the Rappahanock River.  with that being said I enjoy fishing all over the state and regularly fish Buggs and Kerr as well as the other river tributaries branching from the Chesapeake.  I have been a tournament angler for many years and have fished tournaments all the way to the West Coast.  I was a previous Director for BASS Nation of Virginia Region One and currently am the Casting Kids Director for BNVA.  I started Battlefield Bass Anglers a few years ago and really like our club Camaraderie, great bunch of guys and gals.  My entire family is fishing oriented, its something we all love doing together.  I look forward to meeting the group, gaining and sharing knowledge.

  1. Concur with Way North Bass Guy, I have been using side imaging on my trolling motor for years as well. Glad to see the TM manufacturers building new ones so that Anglers have a choice. I have always ran a Total Scan and now a AI 3 in 1 on my trolling motor and it is well worth while. Now with Live Sight, Side Imaging and 2D sonar it has tremendous potential. Cant wait to replace my Ultrex with the Lowrance Ghost! The AI 3 in 1 is built in to the removable Nose cone which gives you the choice of AI or HDI. Wonder whats next?
  2. Anyone using SonarChart Live? It is a Navionics feature allowing you to create new 1 ft personal HD bathymetry maps in real time as your boat moves along the water! It appears as an additional layer over your map while it also gets stored on your device for future use. It’s a pretty cool feature, just wondering home many of you guys have used it to create your own map of a favorite lake or river. <><
  3. What is your favorite method of transferring or adding waypoints to your plotter? Was asked by a friend today about the best way to add or transfer routes or waypoints on your plotter. Plotter Sync using my Navionics App., HotMaps Platinum card, and my Lowrance HDS Live Unit is my favorite method. Plotter Sync allows some Raymarine, Lowrance, Simrad and B&G plotter owners to transfer routes, markers, and to update charts using the App and your mobile device. It really makes it easy to prepare for a day on the water or log information on successful or interesting areas for the next outing.

  5. I use my Navionics App. everyday either for work at the Marina on Lake Anna or just to search out interesting spots for my next outing. I really like that I can Sync it with my Lowrance and have places I've marked on both. Also use the depth shading feature all the time especially now in the summer heat searching for cover such as docks that are in a little deeper water. Would highly recommend it! <><
  6. Larry, Your Gen 3 Unit and Navionics + are a great combination. When you get to your lake go to your Charts page and select go To Cursor in the right upper corner and your unit will show you at your location. There is information on the Navionics website regarding what lakes are covered with 1 Ft Contours. On the Navionics web page go to Products/Navionics GPS Plotter Charts/Navionics+Marine and Lakes/Under Coverage select your Region and click on Details/Then Click on See Lakes List. Hope that helps! <><
  7. Looking forward to getting the Live Sight transducer that's been on order for a while. Sounds like they may be shipping in the first week of July, hopefully that holds true. Just bought Live Scope and wiring it up now, cant wait to spend some time with it!
  8. As we approach ICast 2019 what has been everyone's favorite new technology in regards to fishing electronics, mapping, and software? I actually have two: The first is the advancements in mapping such as my Navionics Hotmaps and sonar shading as well as depth shading. The other is the advancements in Live Sight and Live Scope forwarding looking sonar. Cant wait to see what will be revealed next month I cant even imagine whats next!
  9. If you are a bass angler and you are going to be fishing inland lakes, reservoirs and rivers Navionics HotMaps Platinum is hard to beat. I have been a user for a long time and I really believe the use of the Map card along with the Navionics App. both of which has made me a better fisherman. I do a lot of homework on my app using my iPad and then will sync the app with my plotter and vise versa for things I discover on the water. If you have any specific questions regarding the app or the map cards please ask, I believe in both. The new Sonar Chart Shading was just released you should check that out, very cool feature. The charts are loaded with helpful features. I use as many tools possible to make me a better angler. Tight Lines, <><
  10. What is everyone's favorite method to find bass during the spawn? Many different stages of the spawn and it all doesn't happen at once. Weather is a huge factor when your trying to figure out what stage the majority of the fish are in and the heavy rains and dirty water doesn't help any. I know personally that I try to follow the fish and study my map all season long. I am fortunate to not only work at a Marina part time but also as a retired Marine I get to spend lots of time on the water.
  11. Had a different experience this past weekend while fishing the Chick River. The perch spawn was happening and the spinnerbait bite was happening but the fish only wanted Gold Indiana Blade with a trailer and it had to have a touch of red on the tail. My boat was a mess digging for blades and switching parts around. But, when you got it right it was an amazing bite regardless of the tide.
  12. Loads of fun this past weekend on the Chickahominy River. Beautiful Weather and a beautiful River! This was the first time I have fished the Chick in March and it fished well. Never had the Big Bite that this river is known for but we did have 30+Fish days. One of the keys to fishing this river was really good map study and the use of my Navionics Map. Realizing the first day that the Perch Spawn was going to play a huge role in the Bass bite for the weekend. Concentrated on submerged wood that stayed wet through the tide cycles and followed that pattern for a successful day on the water. Also found a few Pre-Spawn fish staging on the river channel edges but these fish proved to be harder to catch on the second day due to a High tide. Semper Fi and Tight Lines! <><
  13. What are your go to baits for the Spring Bite?
  14. Really good interview! Took my 8 year old Grandson to the Classic and he was able to meet Gary. Nice man, was proud that my grandson was able to talk to him about his favorite baits. My Grandson look confused at first when I told him I wanted him to meet Gary, until I explained he was the man that created his rainbow Senko Lol... <><
  15. Looking for some awesome trout streams in Northern Virginia area, any suggestions? I have included the map area using the Bass Resource Navionics Map Chartviewer. Thanks in advance for any help, just looking for that nice stocked stream in this beautiful state. I get to do a lot of Bass fishing but only get out a few times in the winter to enjoy the mountain streams.
