  1. What size treble would you replace the hooks on a 130 whopper plopper with?
  2. Thanks to everyone that replied on the boat with the cracked transom! When I went back to the site to get more information, it had already sold. Could have been my lucky day!
  3. I am considering a used boat that has transom damage. Anyone have any experience with a transom repair kit? It has a bout a 3/4" crack down each side of the transom.
  4. Any of you ever use river2sea's whopper plopper ? Bought one today and don't know anything about them.
  5. Very little current where I fish, so I don't understand what is meant by "slipping" the river. Could you give a little more detail on how to do it?
  6. WELCOME!! I think you will fine there are some very knowledgeable people on here and are always willing to help when they can.
  7. How do I get the bushing the front deck butt seat post fits into out? My bushing is worn enough that it lets the seat flop around and seem very unstable. I thought it might just prize out but that doesn't seem to be the case. It is on a 92 model champion bass boat. Thanks
  8. Do you think a feathered treble hook, like on a chug bug, would add a little color and get a few bites?
  9. Check the oil in the lower unit. If you have a bad seal and it is letting water in it will start bindiing up and your engine will not rev up when it is in gear. If oil is milky looking, drain it and check for metal filings. That is a long shot, but it won't take long or cost much and needs doing anyway.
  10. When you catch a fish with this rig, is it usually on the jerkbait or on the jig?
  11. Can you post a pic of it? Never seen one,but I am going to do a little shopping this week.
  12. I have had more luck with a "chug bug", than any thing else. Guess that just makes sense since I have thrown it more than any of the others. Around here the top water bite has not been as good for this time of year.
  13. I have a Browning Midas 6 reel that I need the little plastic brake blocks for. Anyone have any idea where I could order them? Any idea how I could make some if I can't find any? Thanks
  14. I used a spool of it and can't really say I was pleased or displeased with it. I would use a polamer knot with it. You can see the red line better to tie the know, if you have poor eyesight.
  15. Made the 60 mi drive to Dick's in Hickory, NC today. Spent about 80 bucks on stuff that was on sale. Should have gone when I first heard about the sale. Everything had been picked over pretty bad by the time I got there. The $349 trolling motor for $109 blew my mind. It was a transome mount though and no good to me.
  16. How about posting a location on some of these good deals. I called my closest Dick's and ask about the sales, however that is not the same as going into the store and asking them to scan it for you. Would like to be sure, before I make a 120 mi. round trip to see.
  17. Where are you located? Here in Western NC, none of the Dicks have a sale like that. It must be specific to your area.
  18. I have a minn kota bow mount trolling motor. It is the power drive model When you retract the motor it just pulls straight up and lays down on the mount. It does not have the piece that lets it go up and out as you deploy it, like most other motors. Because of the way it is made you have to mount it with the mount sticking out about 5 or 6 inches beyond the edge of the boat. I don't like it sticking out like that, called minn kota and they said it has to be mounted that way. The guy I talked to said Cabelas used to sell a retractable mount that you mounted the original mount on and that let you slide the mount out and in . I called Cabelas and they said they no longer sell the mount. Does anyone know where I could find one, or know of another solution for the problem?
  19. I"ve only owned one. Broke it when I cast too far and it landed on a big rock at the edge of the water. I consider this my fault and will be buying a couple more.
  20. Will try to answer some of the questions that have been brought up about my original post. Chevron 2cyl marine oil, mixed 50 to 1, is what was in it and the mech said that is alright. It will have to have gas when we go back to the water, so what would you guys recommend? Oil injector was removed when rebuilt power head was installed. Don't really know much about power head that was put on except, he said he put all new pistons in. I asked about crankshaft bearings and he said they were replaced. He also said the old power head went to a marine machine shop, The only one around here that has the equipment for boat engines. They did not say they put any new sleeves in it, they said they put all new pistons in it. The comment about sleeves was mine and came from my lack of knowledge. I thought it was a sleeved engine. I have called the guy and he said bring it back next week and he will check some things out . Maybe he can do a leak down test on it. I do feel better about it since you guys say the bottom 2 cyl are suppose to have a little lower compression.
  21. Engine has not been run hard. A little over half throttle mostly. Breakin instructions were to run it half to a little over half until it had 10 hrs on it. Bring it back after 10 hrs and he would retorque heads and check it out. We checked compression after 3 hrs just out of curosity. It was running good. Bottom 2 cyl are the ones that has the lower compression readings. I asked if he replaced all pistons and he checked his computer and said yes, it shows I bought 6 for this engine. I assumed that meant he also replaced all sleeves also, but that could be a wrong assumption on my part. This is a carb engine, so I guess that means it is a 60 degree engine. Thanks
  22. I know there are several good boat mechanics on here, so I have a question for any who will reply. Recently had a rebuilt power head installed on a Johnson 150 fast strike. It seems to run good, but when checking compression it has 2 cyl @ 105, 2 @85, 1 @95 and 1@90. Is this anything to worry about? I would have thouoght they would be within 10% of each other. The engine has been run about 3 hours since power head installed. Thanks cwb60
  23. What weight shaky head do you guys use? Do you base your decision on the size of the plastic you are using or the depth you are fishing? Example, what weight for a finesse worm fishing in 2 to 10 ft. of water.
  24. It is very intresting, looks like the things on the sides would flap like the ones on a paca caw, but what about the tail? Will it work side to side or up and down? Will it make any difference whick way it works? Intresting enough that I would try ONE pack.
  25. bilgerat Can you post a pci of it? I confess my ignorance, I am not sure I know what a "Baby Minus " is.
