  1. You don't think the XF will be a hindrance on hook sets? I can just see the frog ripping out of the fish's mouth and whipping by my head at 100mph now.
  2. I'm trying to decide on a new frog rod, and can't quite pick the exact model I need. I've settled on the Veritas 2.0, but can't pin down the strength and taper. I'm going to be fishing from a kayak mostly, and throwing the hollow frogs into a whole bunch of weeds, bushes, pads, etc. The Veritas 2.0 has it's own frog model, but I don't think 7'6" would work well from a kayak, and I'm not sure about the medium heavy strength and medium taper. There are 7' and 7'3" MH/fast models available with either micro guides or standard guides, as well as a 7' H/xf, but I'm pretty sure the extra fast taper would be terrible for frogs. I'll be pairing this rod with either a Abu Garcia REVO S or REVO SX high speed, if that aids in the conversation at all. Thanks!
  3. Try this website http://webapp.navionics.com/?lang=en. It covers tons of bodies of waters, including smaller ones.
  4. LMB actually school together much more than we think. We view them as solo hunters who hide in cover, but there are plenty of them that prefer to school together in open waters as well.
  5. Wound up with a 6'8" MHF! Pretty happy that's the only one they had. I would've liked to have a 7', but I don't think it'll be too much of an issue. It also gives me a reason to buy more gear next year
  6. Ended up buying a Shimano Crucial. One of my local DSG had one on hand (I called all three nearby too) and at $80, I couldn't pass it up!
  7. Wow, I'll definitely have to check my two local stores and see if they have any Crucials in stock! Thanks for the heads up! I'm curious about this Lamiglas rod, WRB. Will the ML make it harder to use for throwing my 1/2oz jigs? I always thought I wanted a good MH rod for setting the hook on worms/jigs too (I'm poor at hooksets). Everyone else, thank you so much for the input, I'm putting a list together to do some research!
  8. Hi all, I'm looking to buy a new casting rod for worms and jigs, mainly weightless wacky rigged senkos (sometimes with a 1/16oz weight), texas rigged senkos/other worms, and 1/4oz - 1/2oz jigs. I bought the Bass Pro Extreme Low Profile baitcast reel in a 6.3:1 ratio. I also ordered the Bass Pro XPS Extreme Trigger rod in a 7' MHF config, and intended to use this rod for the above mentioned techniques. Unfortunately, the rod has been on backorder and Bass Pro keeps pushing back the expected arrival date, and I'd rather not wait any longer. I'm looking for assistance on what rod I should buy, and hoping to spend around $100. I've currently got 12lb fluoro on the reel, and would prefer to keep that on there since it's brand new line. Most of my fishing (around 75%) is done from a kayak, not sure if that needs to be taken into consideration. Thanks!
  9. Just wanted to let you know that I checked this spot out over the weekend. Sadly didn't get out till later in the day so not much luck in catching bigger fish since there are SO MANY baitfish in the water there. It is absolutely beautiful though, even went to one of the other ponds at the suggestion of a local. Pulled out a ton of sunfish on my plastics. Gonna give it another try this weekend at day break, hoping for a lunker. Thanks for the tip!
  10. Yeah, everything is lined up properly. Brought the setup back out at night and noticed some odd tension sort of noises from the reel. Metallic/grinding sound almost. Occurred every few twists of the handle. Maybe I have a defective reel, which wouldn't surprise me with how many issues I've had getting this thing out there.
  11. I think the 75 number is just a poor guestimate. It looks like I have a decent amount of line on there. That's a tiny exaggeration haha. But my casts were painfully short. Is flipping and pitching not a good shore technique? Should I be saving this rod for the boat and stick to cranks from land?
  12. Gonna go give that a try, beer and all haha
  13. It feels VERY stiff. I'm sure I should be reading up more on plastics and proper techniques for different baits, but it's been a lot to take in, and it's a bit more difficult when you're about the hit the 4 week mark with not a single fish.
  14. Not sure at all, and was basing the 10lb off the rod and reel limits/specifications I've got 10lb spider-wire, wanted stren but they were all out. I've got a bunch of stren 8lb available too. I'd say I've got about 75 yards on, definitely under the 120 yard limit. Guy at Gander Mountain suggested 30lb braid, I bought it, and decided not to spool that. I sure hope I know how to spool a spinning reel correctly haha. I've never had a problem respooling my other reels.
  15. Mr. Squiggles looks like he's got scoliosis
  16. Instead of constantly discussing more issues in my previous thread, I'm just going to start a new one for my new problem. I ended up purchasing an Abu Garcia Veritas (MHF 7') which is rated for 8-15lb line. I've paired this up with my Shimano Spirex 2500 reel which is rated for 10lb line. Naturally I've spooled with 10lb mono. Bought this setup for worms/jigs/frogs (I've been fishing nothing but crankbaits up until a few weeks ago). Got it out today, first cast, 10 feet. Second cast, 10 feet. Tried flipping, pitching, skipping, 10 d**n feet. What is my problem here? Had it rigged with a size 3 worm hook, 4" senko texas rigged with a 1/4 oz worm weight. Not to mention I bought this whole setup because I've been in a 3 week no fish drought and everyone seems to be ranting and raving about plastics. No bites, no fish (unless I didn't recognize the bites, but that's why I bought this setup). Help, please. Half tempted to cannibalize the setup and make the Veritas disappear.
  17. I'm gonna take a drive there Sunday, any other suggestions or tips for the location? Weedy?
  18. I prefer the Clackin Rap
  19. If you think you've tired them out too much, just hold them in the water for a little to allow them to recooperate before you let them swim away. They'll let you know when they're ready to go haha
  20. I might need to check the Bionic Blade out, thanks for the tip. Anyone have any new suggestions on a rod to pair with my Spirex 2500 reel. The THIRD Sellus I exchanged for was defective as well, and when I ordered the rod from DSG's website, the order was cancelled as they were out of stock! Needless to say, I need opinions on a nice medium-heavy rod for flipping and pitching worms and plastics in some relatively heavy cover, hopefully under $100. DSG's also gave me a 20% off coupon for my troubles, so I was looking at the St. Croix Mojo Bass 7'0" MHF if anyone can provide an opinion on this. I have an issue with setting hooks on my soft plastics so initially I was trying to find an extra-fast action, but I'm at wits end. I'd hate to waste my 20% coupon (it's only good for 30 days), but I'm open to any stores as well. Thanks so much!
  21. Sounds like you're pulling them in so fast they don't have a chance to tire themselves out. You can always grip them around their gills and they'll calm right down, but you generally want to avoid touching their bodies so you don't remove their slime. Let them fight a little more and grip their lip a bit harder.
  22. Haha I'm having a real tough time getting this setup out on the water Good thing my reel doesn't arrive till Thursday.
  23. Captain stupid here. Replaced the baitcasting rod with a spinning rod, and the guides look messed up. Can someone verify if they are indeed messed up? Cropped and zoomed a photo to show the 2nd to last guide before the tip is smaller.
  24. I've meant to give the Summerville Pier a try as I always see people out on it when we launch from the river.
  25. I've actually never thought of trying over there. Do you just park to the side of the road?
