  1. I have 3 Mojo Bass. two 6'8 MXF and one 7' MHF. Mine are all spinning. I still haven't attempted casting reels yet. I love them.
  2. I can't figure the method of landing a bass on a frog. I have no problems getting strikes. I have even had a few tug or wars with fish, but so far I have only managed to land 1 out of 15. Im fishing the hollow plastic models. Sexy/Poppin' type. I have bent the hooks outward a little. I'm fishing slop and some pads/reeds. I have a medium heavy rod (Mojo Bass 7' MH - Fast) and use braid. Its getting frustrating, because I really enjoy fishing the topwater in the slop. Any tips/tricks/hints/voodoo are appreciated.
  3. My first day fishing with a Sexy Frog and nothing happened. The fish didn't find it Sexy or appetizing. Strangely enough though, other frogs found it sexy. I casted to a far bank, in the middle of some scum and I saw instant movement about 30 feet away. A bull frog was making for my bait. It was a good learning experience watching a living frog move with purpose. By the time I was done I drew two frogs to my lure, but no fish. I kept wait for one of the frogs to be swallowed, and hoped it would be the sexy one! Alas, any sex appeal was limited to the bullfrogs.
  4. Does anybody have a preference for the type of trailer hook? I like a snelled hook instead of the rigid slip overs
  5. I wanted a setup that was stronger for fishing frogs. (Of course budget was a concern) I opted for: St. Crox Mojo Bass, 7' Medium-Heavy, Fast Pflueger Supreme XT Spinning, 9235XTX with 30 pound braid
  6. Doh! I just hit "checkout" at *** not even 10 minutes ago. I bought 2 chartreuse and one blue gill. Sure hope those colors are mention in this thread!
  7. I swear by them! The only thing working this morning was a black buzz bait. All season long I noticed most of my hook-ups were on the trailer hook. This morning I was 4-for-4 and the last one the trailer hook got the fish on the outside, under the mouth (foul hooked). The fish managed to flap off the hook and fall in the water. However, the trailer hook was still attached. Being lazy (and it was raining) I opted to fish without a trailer. I went 0-for-2 and put a trailer on. Sure enough I went 2-2 with the trailer being the only hook in the mouth. My preference is a snelled hook (with heavy braid) that I attach with a simple loop around the lure's hook. I don't like the slip over trailers. (The one I lost today was a slip over)
  8. I know it's already answered, but one more tip is to use a trailer hook. Since using a trailer hook I land more fish because it reduces the short strikes. My personal preference is attach the trailer with heavy braid. I like it better than dangling a rigid hook off the back. Good luck.
  9. I had a little fun today with my GoPro and panfish... http://youtu.be/Wu9-DUj5EKA
  10. Thanks. I underestimated the amount of rain we got. I couldn't get anywhere near a bank. Tomorrow I will go for sure, and throw a spinner.
  11. My area (central NJ) is getting about 3-5 inches of rain today, into tomorrow. I haven't been fishing in about week and want to go out tomorrow afternoon (rain done) and Friday morning. The lake/pond I go to will be high and muddy. I will be fishing from the bank, in water no more than 5' deep with a lot of submerged fall-down. Any recommendations for lures?
  12. I just ordered my GoPro Hero 3+, Silver tonight! Ordered the head harness/clip and the Jaws Clamp mount. I can't wait to play with the stuff from the bank and from my canoe. The best part is, that thanks to AmEx points, it was all free!!! To bad they don't have fishing gear for rewards.
  13. If I play music, its low and I always play artists that are topic: Hootie & The Blowfish; Country Joe & The Fish; Emerson, LAKE and Palmer; Little River Band; Muddy Waters, etc.
  14. I'm central NJ and haven't been getting a lot of numbers. But a buddy, who fishes just about every day, has had some days of with 20 mid-size bass. Only small pickerel so far.
  15. Any opinions on head configuration for a pond with a lot of submerged fall down? Mostly trunks and larger branches (nothing more than 6 inch diameter). From what I see in the shallow areas the smaller stuff is gone. This pond isn't very deep (we think). Estimate 4-5 feet at most. Football or round head? Also, any other insights. I've never thrown many jigs but I think it is needed there, now.

    NJ Lunker

Got this lady on a Zoom Super Fluke. Bank fishing in a narrow inlet, I cast to the other bank and landed in about 2 inches of water. Few feet off shore saw a little swirl and a little tug. Set the hook and I knew it was big right away. When it jumped I couldn't believe the size. She was fat and full of eggs. Of course I released her. My personal best.
  17. She was caught in Mercer County and I didn't have a scale. The guy I was with, who catches a lot of bass all over the US, said it was over 5. I will be buying a scale now.
  18. Personal Best today. NJ had an awful winter. But the water is warming and a NJ Lunker was mine to have today. Windy day, 60s, Sunny. Used a SuperFluke White
  19. Thanks to all. I will be going to pick-up an aluminum 15' Grumman Eagle tomorrow. Its a lightweight model that isn't made any longer. It only weights 63 pounds so I figured I better go for it. It has a square stern. I will probably only be paddling, but its nice to know I can put an electric motor on it very easily. On the down side... its 110 miles away. So we will make a family trip out of it. NW NJ and NE PA here we come.
  20. No I know the rule... never stand in a canoe. Anyway, I'm in the market for a stable, light weight canoe that I can fish standing in, during calm days. I will be fishing alone most times and getting onto my truck's roof rack is my concern. I'm looking for a 3 seater for when my son is old enough. Any suggestions?
  21. Do you know the make/model? I am just starting my research on a hitch-rack for my shortbed pickup.
  22. A buddy brought me with him yesterday to a private farm pond in central NJ. I felt like I was on a bass show. The bass were in the lily pad and, when there was cloud cover, they were hitting like crazy. As soon as the sun came out the fish turned-off. About 45 minutes later, more clouds and more fish. We didn't keep count, but we figure at least 30 fish in 3 hours. At one point we landed our Zoom Salty Super Flukes in a secluded opening, about 6 feet from each other and we both hooked-up... just like TV. Most were small at about 1.5-2 pounders, but he landed two of about 3.5 pounds. All season I have fished from the banks. An afternoon in his canoe has me on Craiglist and the WWW looking for a canoe of my own.
  23. The heavy rain, the excessive heat waves and then the cold weather in middle August. I have had 2 summer colds this year and I never get colds in the summer.
  24. The weather this year in NJ is just plain goofy. My only real success has come with Buzzbaits. Nothing else has been consistent. This year I am fishing strickly from the banks of lakes. How are you dealing with the weather?
