  1. I'm going to share with you all a technique I picked up the other day from another angler. I haven't seen anything like it yet nor have I seen anyone else discussing it on here. My local lake has had a trend of bass suspending around 15-16 ft in deep water (deep water is relative, in my case it was 40-50 ft.) I came across a guy dropshotting in the deep water with success, and my curiosity peaked. He showed me his rig which looked like a standard drop shot, until I noticed this guy was running 30 ft of tag end for the weight. What he would do, was setup his DS rig with about 3 ft of tag line, then attach a small swivel. He then took what looked to be a 1/2 oz DS weight and attach it to a spool of line, guesstimated how much he needed to reach the bottom to below the suspended fish, and attach it to the swivel. I asked him about this, and he said the swivel allowed for quick change of depth without having to retie a whole rig. Of course, I had to ask what he would do if he wanted to cast away from the boat instead of a completely vertical presentation. he then proceeded to flip the bail on his reel, grab the tag line about 4 ft from the weight, and sling it by hand as far as he could throw it, engaging the reel once his weight hit bottom. It was a little unconventional, but he was catching fish when most others where getting skunked.
  2. If it will work, would you mind posting that length then?
  3. To any owners of the new Aldebaran 50... I need a favor. Since I don't have the reel just yet, can someone take a measurement of the reel seat length and post it for me? Rod builder needed a specific measurement for it...
  4. Thanks Ghoti, what I needed to hear!
  5. Gonna revive this one with a question... Any builders here know how much they will affect the weight of the rod?
  6. So I will be buying my own boat next year, probably a 12 ft jon, which i will be outfitting with a small outboard and troller and electronics. I am posting this in hopes that someone near my area would be so kind to allow me tag along on an outing, to learn the basics of fishing from a boat ( electronics basics/reading, fishing under the power of a trolling motor, anything that will educate me on fishing effectively from a boat. In exchange, I will pay for gas, lunch, and whatever else we may work out. Thanks for your consideration and replies.
  7. Alright everyone... hope this helps some people, I will also post this in Glenns posting pics thread in the Everything Else forum...

  9. This is the pb... This is the one everyone thinks is my pb...
  10. Someone on here once wrote that if you are losing jigs, then you are in the right spot...
  11. I would go with Tom's suggestion. If that is not feasible, then I want to add that I would carefully sand or file the glue and or thread that is surrounding the tip top. before applying heat. I ruined a tip one time from too much heat trying to break it loose.
  12. Google Sketchup works well.
  13. I'm right there with ya... Need to quit assin around and rathole the money for a dvt build, using the k2 blank...
