  1. What were you using for the catfish?
  2. Where the heck is Roadwarrior lately?
  3. Basstracker, it is a fairly popular lake for crappie fishermen. It is a shame that no boats are allowed because you really need a kayak to fish it. Lots of structure for snags, have never got a big fish out of it.
  4. MFBAB, where was the pond with the fish kill?
  5. Welcome to the forum! TONS of information in this thread. Grab a cup of coffee and read from the beginning and you'll be in good shape. Lots of bank fishing options here.
  6. Hope everyone is having a great Father's Day! We are expecting our first child in September and I can't wait. I hit Johnson Park (Germantown) yesterday morning and caught 3 smaller fish on a chart/white spinnerbait after throwing just about everything else. All were caught on the western pond. Went back around dusk and got skunked. Hit Daycare on my way home (pregnant wife wanted a Sonic shake) and hooked into a nice 3.5 pounder who hit it like he was gonna be my new pb. Bugs, snakes and high grass out there are getting out of control.
  7. You should ditch that yellow cloth necklace for a nice gold chain. The small picture made me think you were one of my Italian uncles for a sec.
  8. OK, I'll bite... pun intended... what's the play near the lighted areas? I've been doing some night fishing for a couple of months on a local pond (bank fishing) and one half of the pond has street lights nearby it that light it up pretty well. The other side is pitch black.
  9. The snake was hooked in the body. I went back out this morning and had a shovel in my car as I assumed I would find the snake in the same place I last saw it. Instead there was a young guy walking around the pond in shorts and carrying a snake stick. I thought at first he was a member here and I was going to say, "times must be tough if a free topwater plug is that important to you." He actually just saw the snake and said he studied herpatology in college and was a local teacher. He said he saw the snake swimming around still hooked and he was gonna try to get it out. Turns out it was a big water snake and not a cottonmouth. I know a lot more than most about snakes and it even fooled me. It swam on top of the water and had a triangle-shaped head. Never got close enough to see the eyes and determine round or not. The young man said that water snakes will actually do that with their head to look like a venomous snake as a defense mechanism. Never knew that and felt pretty dumb because I know a lot of water snakes get killed because of being mistakenly ID'd. About 20 mins later I saw him swim past me. Happy ending I suppose!
  10. If anyone goes to Daycare today and wants a free topwater plug, check the northeast shoreline in the grass, but be careful if you reach for it... the huge cottonmouth it is attached to is quite fond of it and has no problem expressing his feelings clearly.
  11. Mystery solved... kids fishing rodeo this weekend at Johnson Park.
  12. There are a couple guys on here who know one of the Germantown Park Rangers - perhaps someone can figure out what is up. Very strange.
  13. Daycare probably has the highest number of people taking fish home. Since it is so close to the road, the bucket brigade shows up in force. I don't know if the fish there have been tested lately but I'm willing to bet that they are unsafe for consumption due to all of the runoff and nearby sewage. I have seen people take fish from Mulch pond, but only catfish.
  14. Fished Kroger on Monday afternoon and Daycare last night. No hits at Kroger, surprised about the snake comment, seems park-like. Getting small ones at Daycare. Heard that the bucket & icebox crowd has been there recently. Made friends with a cottonmouth and a bunch of big watersnakes at Daycare.
  15. Anyone thinking of carrying a gun owes it to themselves and their family to go get some practical training. I'm not talking about the "this end is where the bullet comes out class" I'm talking avoiding conflict and defending yourself if needed. Carrying a guitar does not make you a musician, carrying a gun does not make you safe. I've got a few hundred hours of courses under my belt, I am a good shooter, but shooting (and carrying) is such a small part of it all. Check out some SouthNarc videos on YouTube to get an idea of what I'm talking about. FWIW, I do some night fishing and I live near Memphis. Whether it is day or night, fishing, shopping, hiking, whatever... there is always a chance someone wants everything you've got and then some.
  16. Grove is the definition of frustration for me. You know there are great fish in there because of this site, but there are so many days that it does not deliver even one fish. Grove is well stocked with disappointment!
  17. Not unless you built a pond and stocked it. Welcome to the board. Lots of info in this thread with lots of local pond info.
  18. Eh, the surge of fair weather fishermen. Yesterday was the first exceptionally nice day of the year and on top of that, it was a Friday. Give 'em a few weeks and they'll all be back inside hibernating from the outside world.
  19. There's no info posted online about being able to fish or canoe/kayak there. It is part of the Lovitt Woods tract, but to my knowledge, the lake is unnamed and among friends we call it "Lowe's Pond" so that there's no confusion. I'm a member of the Wolf River Conservancy - great organization that if you live in the area, you ought to consider joining - and before putting my canoe in back there, I got with them to make sure it was legal. Here's a snip of the email that I got back... "The Conservancy holds a Conservation Easement on that lake by Lowe's... The Conservancy prohibits the use of motorized vehicles including motor boats. The Conservation Easement allows for active recreation, which includes canoeing and kayaking. It's very possible to put a kayak into the lake without causing additional erosion. Yes you can fish out of a kayak or canoe. Do not drive a truck down or back a vehicle down to unload the kayaks; this promotes others to do even more erosion-causing activities. Finally, there is a fish advisory on this part of the Wolf River and all lakes fed by the Wolf, so I would not recommend eating the fish. Happy Fishing!" Pretty straightforward.
  20. Southeastern Pennsylvania. Otherwise known as the Delaware Valley... Philadelphia, Montgomery, Bucks, Delaware, Chester, and Berks Counties.
  21. I just laugh. It's fishing.
  22. Over your head my friend.
  23. By all means, do not wear a bright orange University of Tennessee hat. You will catch zero fish guaranteed.
  24. Welcome to the site! There are a couple of guys who live on Mud Island who regularly fish the lagoon, but I don't recall any of them posting here. You may want to just scope out the area and ask someone you see fishing. Strangely, the last couple times I've been down at Miss Cordelia's, I've seen a guy riding around with a Duckett rod resting across his handlebars... Let us know what you find out, I've been curious myself. We almost bought a place right off the lagoon when we moved here a few years ago. Unfortunately, the year was 2011 and the river looked frighteningly close to the houses, so we ended up in Germantown.
  25. No, it is part of the Wolf River Conservancy and is open to the public. You can also put a small boat in there if you want. The shoreline only has a few places accessible for bank fishing once the brush grows in. Lots of bass and crappie in there. Snakes too. Be sure to park on the paved area and not the dirt/gravel due to erosion issues.
