  1. Going to have to see if this is true up here as well.... normally the wal mart near me has a terrible selection of gear
  2. fishinthedacks, Congratulations on your new sponsor! It sounds like you are on the right track to pursuing your passion, and I truly believe that a REALLY good salesperson is NOT a dime a dozen, and I'm sure exhibiting the same 'moxy', confidence, and I'm gonna say it... patience that you have in this thread is going to take you a long way in your endeavours. Be sure to keep us updated on your progress, if you're building a virtual presence on twitter or instagram feel free to PM me to get another follower! Good luck!
  3. I'm new to following the tournaments myself, I've been reading their live blog on the website. It seems to me that if they had some sort of live coverage, there MIGHT be less spectators out there? I noticed they've been playing with GoPro cameras on helicopters, (they even crashed one near Tharp yesterday) If it was possible to have those cameras following anglers around, and had a website where you could pay and flip between cameras and watch, or have that streaming at the event, MAYBE less people would be on the water? Then again I'm sure it's a once in a lifetime experience to be on the water with these guys, and people will always want to do that. For all I know they don't offer that because other anglers could use that as some kind of advantage....again I'm new to all this lol. But after reading in the live blog that 4 or 5 boats would roll up and fish a spot after someone would leave, that's gotta be detrimental to an anglers gameplan, and as others have said kind of takes away from an even playing field.
  4. my fishing buddy is an older guy, and he's always got these corny shirts with fishy sayings: "I live with fear everyday.....but some days she lets me go fishing!" is probably my favourite
  5. I'd try and compromise...maybe he can guarantee me I'll never be skunked? Even that would ruin the fun I'm sure.... How about he'll come unhook any snagged lures?
  6. 3rd week of June for me on Lake Ontario, and 4th week of June for the conservation areas in my zone! I have no interest in keeping any fish I catch (aside from Walleye up in the Kawarthas maybe) I wish we could c&r Bass here earlier in the year, but I always figured the people who made up the rules had a reason for doing so, spawning etc. As for the original topic, I too can't wait to make that first cast! Even if it is for pike if ice out happens before March 31st then that's closed until the start of May...the way I'm feeling I'd be happy to fish for perch and sunfish as long as it means trying out my new set ups!
  7. Thanks. I drove by the harbour I bank fish in Lake Ontario today... kids were playing hockey on the ice... think I've still got a ways to go....
  8. I love reading anything from SirSnookAlot. It must be so fun to have both fresh and salt water opportunities close by! I've never tried rooster tails, I always thought they were more for trout or something up here, but thanks to you I'll be picking up a few to try out on bass this summer!
  9. I too can't seem to stop buying tackle, but I think once the ice melts and I can actually start using stuff my spending will drop quite a bit.

I recently was looking for the same
  11. Wow thanks! I've been in there a handful of times, I'll have to ask about that next time I'm in there! Fishing World was actually the first real tackle shop I entered, It was last year, and after only purchasing stuff from the weak selection at Canadian Tire I was truly in heaven, finally got to see all the soft plastics and lures I had only ever read about on here lol.
  12. For a new angler I'm pretty excited about the flyer. I'm helping a buddy gear up this year, and they've got the bags, 360/370 boxes, on sale. Buy 2 get 1 on hooks, and some red eye shads that I wanted. Maybe it's the cabin fever, but I can't wait to go spend some money lol. Might even convince my wife to pick up one of the pink pfleuger presidents! the curado g is $119 here in Canada, not sure if I'm ready for a baitcaster yet tho... next year!
  13. Good luck and have fun! I hope to try my hand in some local club tournaments this year just to try and learn with some more experienced fishermen/women. There are a LOT of great articles here: http://www.bassresource.com/fishing-tournament-tips/
