  1. I bought all these d**n lures during my winter cabin fever, but all I ever seem to have tied on is a DS with various plastics, or a weightless 5" Senko...
  2. Johnson Silver Minnow
  3. Great looking fish! I've been having some luck shore fishing Lake O out of Hamilton, and the conservation areas around here and Niagara. My fishing buddy and I are looking for a bass guide or some kind of charter before the end of the year, to get some experience on a boat and learn some more techniques. You mentioned clients, if you provide something like that or can recommend anyone please shoot me a pm!
  4. I've been using a 7' Fenwick HMG most of the time this year, although it's a Medium Fast and not ML, I handled a lot of them in store and they all felt amazing, and it performs excellently on the water. I can't believe how sensitive this rod is, then again I am only comparing that to lower end rods I've owned before lol. Take your reel in with you and try it on a bunch of stuff to get a good feel.
  5. I lost count, X5 or X6 for the President. I purchased one after reading countless positive reviews and mentions on these forums, and really couldn't complain about a thing! It's got 10# PP Braid and handles like a dream compared to anything I've used before.
  6. Way to go!
  7. That's a beauty! I'm going to be up at the cottage in a couple of weeks, and planning on catching my first 'eye. What size twister tail, and how did you have it rigged?
  8. http://www.youtube.com/user/Dollar714 this person has a TON of old BASSMASTER episodes, sure helped me get through this past winter
  9. Welcome aboard buddy! You've made the first step in getting involved, there is a large community here of the most helpful people I have ever found on the internet. The first thing you'll want to do, is read all of the forum guidelines, and posts that say things like 'READ ME BEFORE POSTING' and posts like that to ensure you follow all the rules. Be sure to visit the Introductions page and tell people about yourself and where you're from to get lots of good information about your local areas. This thread will most likely be moved to the tournaments section, and hopefully you get some more replies there. To be honest, the answer I am going to give you is not what you want to hear, and that is the fact that the questions you are asking have already been answered many times by other anglers, and the great people on this site have made it easy for you to find that information and use it to educate yourself. A quick search on this site turns up some GREAT articles and forum threads that are sure to get you started in the right direction: http://www.bassresource.com/fishing-tournament-tips/ this link alone will take you to lots of articles discussing exactly what you want to know. Unfortunately like all things in life, we must dig deep on our own to truly understand and learn all that we can! If you don't have a boat, and want to try tournaments, you will likely be fishing on the back of someones boat as a 'co angler' so read all the articles on that page about co anglers, and you will find out what to expect, what you would need to bring, etc. Look for Bass clubs in your area, a quick search on the BASS website should get you some email addresses for people who run clubs near you, I know the one in my city just started a Junior club for younger people looking to try the competitive aspect of fishing. Also check out your highschool and see if they have a team or club, and if they don't, maybe find a teacher who loves fishing and take the initiative to try and get one started. For gear, if you read enough threads in those sections you will learn that you don't require much, 3 or 4 entry level combos that you compile over time should serve you well for many years. Bottom line, make sure you're focused on school first, a proper education is much more valuable to you than any rod or lure or tournament! Good luck and be safe. edit: start here: http://www.bassresource.com/fishing/guide_to_tournament_fishing.html
  10. Lots of big common carp come out of my area. Earlier this month I went targeting them for the first time. (Bass season is a ways away and I have been looking for other fish to target with the gear that I have) I landed one and lost a few, but MY GOODNESS! I recently started fishing, and in all the fish I caught last year, I never had any run on me or pull line, no monsters. WHAT A FEELING it was, to just hold my rod up as some shapeless beast peels my line off like crazy, unable to control or horse it in! Needless to say I know what I'll be doing from now until the 3rd week of June!
  11. Fish? 3! 2 carp and a catfish lol.... come on bass season!
  12. If I could go back in time and fish with Tiffany Amber Theissan(sp) in the 90s that would be my first choice.....2nd would be Jerry Seinfeld
  13. I thought this was an amazing show, I loved the look at tournaments following a new guy on the boater scene... Can't wait to see what they do with season 2!
  14. You know I read a lot of threads on these forums, and learn a TON of fishing related tips every single day... but it's these types of threads that are my favourite. It's so fun to read stories shared by people all over the world, of every age who all share the same passion.
  15. This is excellent advice for any starting angler! Oh how I wish this was the first thing I read when I started looking up info online! Would have saved me tons of $$ and hopefully helps someone out there!
  16. http://www.torontosportshow.ca/blind_fishing_boat/
  17. No drinking water and nothing to smoke would put an early end to my day of fishing. Everything else I think i could manage for the day without
  18. ^^ This. Pick up a Trion and pair it with a Berkley Lightning rod if you can't find one in a combo, you'll spend about $80, and could then consider maybe a small backpack, a couple of left over plano boxes, and even a couple tried and true lures that he'll have fun catching fish on. Nothing better than getting another young person involved in the sport, and that is stuff that could be used for years
  19. Mine has to be a 5" senko weightless T-rigged, watermelon and red flake. Or DS a 3" Powerbait minnow
  20. Definitely watch bassresource's videos about dropshotting on youtube, multiple views seemed to work for me. Remember that even holding the rod still will allow the bait to have a very natural subtle presentation; less is more!
  21. I figured, thanks for the reply!
  22. I used these last year, same colour and size. I nose hooked them on a drop shot and had a lot of success. Dip the tail in your favourite dye or scent and hang on!
  23. Hello friends, I got a chance to get up to BPS today to look around. Among my purchases was this Storm Wiggle Wart Original Series. I had read on here people talking about a 'pre rapala' version, and I was just wondering where this lure stands in regards to that. Here is a picture, on the back it has a copyright sign beside the year 2006 and is 2" and 3/8oz. I couldn't find the same colour when I got home and checked the BPS site quickly, so if anyone knows anything about these, (name of colour, best time of year to use or around what types of cover or structure) I would appreciate the help.
  24. 5 years old in junior kindergarten! lost touch in high school and then reconnected about 5 years ago. Every day since has been a blessing.
