  1. ^^^^ That's definitely a good sign
  2. In regards to my jerkbait retrieve. Since the advantage of this bait is it's out of the box "hunting" action, I just found that some pauses and jerks helped to show this even more than a straight retrieve
  3. I use bluegill colored swim jigs quite a bit. I have had good luck using the rage tail menace grub in "bluegill" as a trailer. I like going on Siebert's website and creating different combinations. If your lake has pumpkinseed sunfish try using some chartreuse
  4. Have a perch colored shallow scatter rap and have never really done much with it. This weekend I tied it on in about 3-4 feet of water in a pretty weedy area. It runs very shallow, only goes down to about 1-2 feet, I was just above the tops of the weeds and was fishing it kind of like a jerk bait but also varying the speed of the retrieve quite a bit. Hammered the bass and pickerel on this thing. Would love to hear others experience with this bait....
  5. The cali style swim jigs are often used with a large swimbait as a trailer and imitate a larger baitfish for anglers who are targeting some of the monsters that swim in castaic or shasta. Northern swim jigs have a more sparse skirt and are typically used with a curly tail or craw trailer to imitate a prey item with a smaller profile. I personally am a big fan of Sieberts swim jigs. Just ordered some new ones myself. I love being able to customize every aspect of the jig.
  6. bluegill swim jig
  7. try the bass assassin elite shiners. They do not have the ribbed body like the keitechs but do have a similar tail and great swimming and rolling action at slow speed.
  8. i had a good fish shake a chatterbait recently as well. I don't pay it too much mind. Will continue to fish them bc they work
  9. I don't feel they are durable at all. I have had a number of them that have had the lips break off. I prefer others like the storm twitch stick that are better made IMO
  10. Thanks for the input. The water I'm fishing currently is very clear. Definitely more than 2 feet of visibility. We have a ton of nice, crystal clear water from the snow melt up here so everything is nice and clear right now. Now we just need the water temps to come up a bit.
  11. I like the sebile vibe machine in breeding bluegill color
  12. Those are some hogs. Congrats. I'm getting familiar with the chatterbait as well. Seems like a great bait, I love how well you can feel it through the rod.
  13. I appreciate the input. I will try the deadsticking technique. Part of my problem is that I'm not comfortable feeling a fish bite with a slack line. I like feeling a fish take my bait with a tight line, which is why I fish square bills, spinnerbaits, chatterbaits etc...
  14. I'm new to fishing jerkbaits. It's still early here in jersey but the bite is starting to turn on. I have tried throwing a number of different jerkbaits I bought over the winter with no success. Have tried LC pointers, x raps and husky jerks. pop, pop, pause retrieve. I'm much more comfortable fishing a square bill with a slow retrieve and it seems to work better for me. I don't want to give up on jerkbaits, any secrets for me?
  15. I'll give it a go.
  16. a nose hooked zoom fluke works great for drop shot
