  1. Hi all, Looking to buy my own place soon, looking mainly at condos as that's what I can afford around here. I just want some insight and hear people's first hand experience owning a home, what I should expect, what unexpected things have happened to you that I should look out for. Anything anyone has to contribute will be appreciated.
  2. Haven't used the cabelas brand but I wear columbia im I heat layers. Keep me pretty warm. Fishing the Chu at the end of last season I wore the base layer, t shirt, sweatshirt and jacket, and te bottoms and jeans and I was comfortable. Probably around the same temps as it is now, I remember it snowing a few times I was there. Still looking for a quality pair of gloves.
  3. OPEN WATER!!!!!!! Have you been to the cabelas in Berlin? They just opened up this week.
  4. Never caught one, they're not that common here. I've never understood why some people don't like catching "trash" fish when most of the time they are bigger and fight harder than bass.
  5. Got a new surf rod, took it to the beach on Sunday to test it out. No fish, just wanted to see how well it would throw my plugs.
  6. With my tatula and (old) zillion I hold the reel with two fingers behind the trigger, with most other reels I hold them with all 4 fingers in front of the trigger.
  7. There's a salt water expo in providence this weekend if anyone is interested, I think it's 10$ to get in.
  8. Had a dream I was trolling for striper out of my kayak. Is it spring yet?
  9. Picked up two curado i's with the trade in
  10. If you have a place near you that has kayak rentals look for a used pfd. I just picked up a stolquist for 15$. It's not the fisherman specific one but it has a high back.
  11. Got just over 2 feet here in Boston, my dad got about 33" at his house. They convenietly only plowed up to the state troopers house on my street so it looks like I'm calling out today.
  12. Caught my biggest (frog fish) off a koppers, but 9 times out of 10 I have a spro bronze eye in killer gill tied on
  13. All I do is trim the legs a little bit
  14. How heavy of a t rig are you going to be throwing. If mostly on the lighter side Id go with a MF over the mh
  15. Thanks for all the information
  16. I use one of these and tie it off to a string in the center hatch of my kayak http://www.planostoragesolutions.com/category/66-polycarbonate-waterproof-storage-case.aspx
  17. I have a spool of regular floro laying around, could I use that. And by splice do you mean use a leader knot?
  18. Going to give I've fishing a shot this year, my dad has some old tip ups but we need line for them. Is there a difference between ice line and regular mono? If so does anyone have any recommendations?
  19. If the previews hit home with you you might want to skip te movie all together, I just got back from seeing it and I don't feel too hot. Good movie, pretty real though.
  20. I calibrate test equipment, going to school for mechanical engineering
  21. I have a wilderness ride 115, absolutely love it. Kayak fishing is great, it's a really good (relatively) cheap way to get off the bank, it really opens up a whole new world.
  22. I really liked the ivcb brakes on the elite, very tame reel, although I don't recall ever trying to throw anything light on it. I also really liked the clicking drag on it. If you already had a tatula and weren't sold on it but like your revos I would go for the elite. Also I would get it off ebay rather than tw, it will be a lot cheaper.
  23. Well I was gonna buy an antares but I may have to hold off, or maybe I'll still get the antares. Decisions decisions ...
  24. If you use and like daiwas get the zillion, if you use and like revos get the elite. I had both the old zillion and elite 8, and I still have the zillion. The zillion is solid and feels more robust, the elite is much smaller and lighter. I kept the zillion because I like how it felt on the rod and I found that I stopped using the Revo. It really comes down to which brand you already like, you won't be disappointed with either. Went back and read you're going to be using it for plastics (I'm assuming generally weightless or a light t-rig) if so I would spend the money on a shimano core instead.
  25. I had one spool of sunline fx2 braid where that happened to me a few times. Sometimes braid can't handle the initial shock of the cast and it will break. It's a lot more common in surf fishing, some surf casters will always use a shock leader of mono to prevent this. That being said I don't use a leader for freshwater and I've only had that happen to me with one spool of braid.
