Personally I'm not a huge fan of shimano spinning reels, I don't know what it is about them but none of the ones I've used felt right to me.
I don't know if the pflueger patriarch is out if the picture for you, but IMO it's the only reel I've used over 100$ that was worth the extra money. I haven't fished the supreme but I am very happy with pflueger reels.
That being said you seem to have a history with shimano reels, so if it ain't broke why fix it.
I'm not sure about anyone else, but when using a heavy saltwater setup I feel more comfortable reeling with my right hand (I use lh bass fishing). Maybe manufacturers made large conventional reels right handed, then when making smaller freshwater versions they just downsized what they had.
I think it makes sense that with a baitcaster the reel is the winch and as most people are right dominant the handle is on the right side. However since bass fishing is done on such light tackle people would rather work the rod with their dominant hand and retrieve with the other.
My 7' M veritas is the most versatile rod I own. I have it spooled up with braid and use it for plastics, spooks, frogs, poppers, spinners. The only thing I haven't used it for is cranking since I don't throw them too often, so I can't comment on that.
I don't have a premier, but I have the revo rocket and elite which are very similar. Both are great at casting, very forgiving. I hardly ever use the brakes on either one.
The only reel that doesn't have braid on it has p line cxx 12lb. I use it primarily for topwater. I don't love it but I don't hate it. It has some give, which I like, but it's not very stretchy like some other lines. The only thing I don't like is that it does get noticeable memory, but I don't use other mono/copoly lines enough to say if it's better or worse than your average line.
Rod for sure. I've bought a couple high dollar spinning reels and they were my worst buys. I think the point of diminishing return for a spinning reel is around 80$.
For a rod in your range I would check out a st croix avid. I have the avid 6'8" mxf spinning that's great for flukes
The biggest I've seen in person is 8lbs and I consider that almost mythical. The biggest I ever caught was 5lb, the average fish I catch are 1-2lbs with the occasional 3lber. I live in eastern mass.
I've never fished turners, and haven't gone out in a couple weeks so I can't comment on the bite in general. But guessing from your name you fish the canton res a lot. Is there any shore access other than right off of pleasant street?
I use braid on my spinning gear for bass, mostly just to cut through all the weeds. In the past I've used 6 and 8 lb mono and never had breakage issues (the reels have a drag for a reason)
Turn the breaks off (towards you) then set the tension so the bait slowly starts to drop (very slowly). Then turn the breaks back on. I had backlashes with it but not bad or often.
It's not the best reel I've used but it was definitely a lot better than the bill dance combo I was using before.
I have the same reel, and my markings are worn off also. If I remember correctly you turn it away from you for max breaks and towards you to turn them off. I think it only has 4 settings I usually just left it in the middle
I would look at the new ugly stick that came out, and if you don't like the reel that comes with it the abu cardinal is a solid reel for a great price.
