  1. Buy one of each until I find "the one." I like fishing with the higher quality rods, doesn't help me catch more fish but I like having quality gear. I buy what I can afford, and try to find what I want on sale.
  2. Good luck guys. I probably won't be out much until April. Work and school have been keeping me pretty busy. I think next semester I'm going to scale back on some classes to give me some peace of mind, I'm starting to burn out.
  3. I shop for saltwater gear exclusively at one shop near me. Nice little shop, has everything you could ever need, and nothing you don't. The guy that owns it is awesome. Always friendly and professional, knows what the fish are biting and where. The prices are fair, about what you would find something online for, but I'm there so often he's given me discounts on some of my bigger purchases.
  4. Mass is lead free too, I've been using mags jigs which are lead free. They sell them on tw and bass pro. Pretty sure these guys are local too. http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/MAGS_Non-Lead_Football_Jigs/descpage-MAFT.html
  5. Awesome, thanks for the info. Right now I'm looking at the lure, and the slayer. My buddy has a slayer propel 10 and it's awesome, but I might spring for 2 cheaper kayaks instead
  6. I had a ride, but I sold it when I moved looking to get a new one. The rides seat got uncomfortable for me with a pfd on for my longer trips, the lure looks like it has a lazy boy on it. Also looking at a ok trident for the salt
  7. Who in here has the feel free lure? I'm looking at getting another kayak this spring and the lure is on my shortlist.
  8. Zman 3/8 black and blue with black and blue rage tail menace. I own a bunch of other colors but black and blue is pretty much all I throw.
  9. I probably won't go out until spring, although the last few days have been a tease. Pretty busy with work and school right now, and hopefully starting a new career soon. Until spring I'll probably just be doing hw in my spare time, and try to get a few rods built. Also if anyone is interested in saltwater theres a big salt water fishing show in Providence in the end of February.
  10. Thanks, I'll check it out. It looks like they have a calculator too.
  11. Denver's defense played lights out against the pats yesterday, but I don't see Denver beating the Panthers
  12. Hi all, just started building my own rods and I have a question about guide selection. They have all sorts of designations that are pretty much meaningless to me, KBAG, KTAG, YAG, SV, CLAG, CYAG, and those are just fuji never mind alps, microwave, etc. How do you generally pick spinning guides (casting too I suppose, but my next build is probably a spinner), and how do you determine what size stripper, choke, and running guides to use. Any input is appreciated. Thanks, Mike
  13. Will do, finished wrapping my guides yesterday. I'll probably expoxy everything this weekend, already planning my next build.
  14. I'd like to test one of these out at wachusett
  15. I use braid since that's what I have spoiled up on the majority of my rods, I think 12+ mono/flouro/copoly would work fine too
  16. Got the itch too. I started building rods to pass the time, almost done with my first build. I may have to put some of my stuff up in the flea market to make room for new toys
  17. Check out the shimano Saragossa or stradic 5000 they have a nice egg shaped knob, penn makes a lot of salt water reels but I don't have any personal experience with those.
  18. I have a supreme xt, patriarch, and a stradic fj. I've had them for 2 full seasons. Initially I like the patriarch more than the stradic, but over time I felt like the stradic has held up better. The patriarch has a tick at the top of its oscillation now, I should probably send it in to pflueger. I should also also add it's not exactly apples to apples. My stradic is a 6000 size and I use it for surf fishing, but that should speak for its quality as well
  19. I have a regular avid 6'8 mxf and an elite 6'6 mf and used to have a premier 7' mf, all spinning. If you're going to be Texas rigging 99% of the time I'd get the mxf, if you're going to throw a crank on there occasionally I would get the medium fast. If if this is going to be the one rod you take with you beating the bank or the one you just leave in your car I would get the medium fast.
  20. First I would like to say that I'm sorry for your loss Secondly I would not skip a semester of school. Even if you just go part time and commute from home. Once you lose that momentum it's very hard to get started again.
  21. Check out the st croix bargain room on their website, might be able to find a rage or mojo that you like
  22. I have the cabelas backpack, I like it a lot. Holds 3 3600s in the bottom and a large upper compartment to fit everything else. I think I got it for 63$ on sale.
  23. I have the 6'8 mxf and a 6'6 mf. I use the mxf for Texas rigs and that's about it, when I only bring along one rod the mf is the one I take.
  24. Picked up a st croix legend elite 6'6" med spinning 2 piece from the bargain room today.
  25. Went to wachusett, got skunked. On the way home it was snowing!!!!!!!!!
