  1. Enjoyed your write up! Love to see other people getting after it with the fly in south florida canals. I've caught two bullseye (they're calling it goldline now) snakeheads on the fly. Caught using EP Bluegill flies I tied. They were both caught sight fishing, so keep working on those casts out to 50 feet. Let us know when you catch one, I would love to see it.
  2. I'm willing to bet those ponds are pretty salty, being between the inlet and the beach. I would check out the beach and see what's out there. You can catch anything on flukes and other "bass" soft plastics. Just make sure to rinse your gear
  3. After their first winning streak I went and bought MLB Gameday Audio. Surprise for sure!
  4. Check out the snakehead thread in 'Other Fish Species' subforum. There is so much information on this forum and online. As a general hint, look for public parks and walking paths for legal fishing spots
  5. Senko is always a good choice and i've caught my fair share with them. People also like the culprit curly tail worms with a bullet sinker. I also like mini brush hogs, flukes, and paddle tails for soft plastics. My secret weapon was the Yozuri 3DS minnow and the small Yozuri pins minnow. 3DS is best with a walk the dog retrieve and it's an absolute killer. Same goes for the zara spook jr topwater bait - especially good in the morning and evening. Those are my go-to's when fishing the South FL area. Just cover water and try new spots, and you'll find fish no doubt.
  6. Check out google maps! Start with parks and shopping centers with water around/through it. I used to fish the area and would scroll through google maps and save GPS coordinates to try out. Weston, Davie, Sunrise, Coral Springs, FLL. They all have water access and peacock bass, among many other species.
  7. I just use a 6ft section of bamboo collected outside (longer would be better for extra reach) tanago hooks or size 26 nymphs and dry flies when fishing bait it's either dough or tiny worm flecks main line is 10lb, with a 2lb test leader The most important is the tanago hooks in my opinion, so the hook with actually fit in some of these minnows mouths
  8. #1 is golden silverside, and I believe #2 is a dollar sunfish. Bluespotted still on my list too!
  9. Sometimes we get tired of wearing our arms out catching snook, tarpon, and redfish down here in Florida ? Here are some from last weekend.
  10. I'm in central FL, but there is definitely great microfishing down south. I know the Tamiami Trail is a popular "spot". Retention ponds might be limited in species, so look for waters that are interconnected with the bigger system.
  11. I really enjoy micro fishing. There are lots of interesting species around small blackwater creeks, swamps, and spring-fed streams in Florida. It's a perfect intersection of my interests in fishing, aquariums, and hiking.
  12. Check out the Other Fish Species forum for Snakehead info. Gotta head down to South Florida in Broward County for snakeheads and while youre at it, you'll probably get some shots at peacocks too
  13. It's really fun to fish for snakeheads after the fry have hatched. In Florida, this is generally in the summer after the rainy season begins and the weeds proliferate. The parents will hold their ground and defend their fry instead of bolting on first sight. I spent some time watching snakehead fry being guarded by their parents, and they were getting absolutely harassed by bluegills and small bass. It's neat because the fry have to come up for air every minute or two, and when they simultaneously hit the surface, it's like a sprinkler hitting the water. I've had the best luck in Coral Springs and my PB was caught on a bluegill fly. They're a really awesome fish and maybe the hardest species to reliably catch in those S FL canals. Go give fry fishing a shot this summer. Most people hate or are indifferent to snakeheads, so nobody will give you crap for fishing the spawners.
  14. Agree with the advice from other posts. Go to Calling Panther. I lived in MS for a year and pulled my PB from that lake. I did really well with shaky heads and junebug trick worm, but obviously many ways to get it done. Good luck!
  15. Ohh man the disrespect!! lol
