  1. My rudder I built on page 59 worked out really well. I had zero problems with the boat drifting sideways or spinning. It was the most enjoyable day I've had since I got my little boat. The boat tracked really straight even here in Oklahoma with a 20mph wind that day. My rudder design freely swings up and down, it stayed down in the water and would raise up over some vegetation that I got into in the shallows.
  2. Got my rudder finished tonight. Went to Home Depot and picked up some supplies. I used two braces for fence building and bent them to give me a mount to the transom. I used a piece of 2" aluminum, and a cotter pin and clip to hold the aluminum in the bracket. The rudder swings freely in the bracket. Used a piece of plastic I had, similar to plexiglass. Will replace this with a piece of sheet aluminum or thicker plexiglass after I decide if this one is big enough. It's 5.5" x 12" right now. When you swing the rudder all the way up it rests on the transom. This will be great as I almost always fish by myself in my 8' Bass Hunter. I can only upload 150kb of photos so I chose one.
  3. Mine is an older model without the vent holes. I've got a fair bit of water in mine over the years (even one time completely full at Lake Konowa) being here in Oklahoma where the wind blows the white caps up pretty quickly. I carry a small sump pump with a 4' length of water hose in my milk crate for just these occasions. clips onto the battery and clears the water really quickly as I head to shore.
  4. First post here. Got lots of good ideas for my 8' Bass Hunter off of this thread. Currently working on a homemade rudder. Will post pics soon.
