  1. I currently do not have a boat and fish with my dad some as well as tourney fish with another guy... I dont have tons of stuff but more than fits in a couple 3600 series planos... so I need to expand a little bit as I am just covering the basics when it comes to my tackle at this point.. What is the most efficient and portable way to store tackle that can be transferred between boats as kinda a co-angler.. currently I have a double sided plano magnum box that has topwater on one side and the other is all my cranks and the few jigs I have.. then I have a tackle bag with 5 3600s that have (terminal tackle) (frogs) (senkos) (curlytails) (creature baits)... as my stuff is expanding (and I really want to take as much as I think I need (which is most of it) HOW DO I MAKE IT WORK?
  2. Have you ever used Duckett? for comparison to the dobyns stuff and the ***?? Do you think the *** is better than Champs and Champ Extremes.. I have heard someone say they were...
  3. I know that as time goes on different brands come along and some that are way ahead fall behind and others come to the front. but I really want to be brand specific with my reels and my rods.. for reels that has not seemed difficult as I have loved lews and find no other needs than what they provide.. but for rods.. not the same luck Currently, I use skeet reese rods for moving bait because they are cheap (I get the 39.99) and suck at sensitivity. ( I will eventually phase them out I think) Second I have 1 Duckett rod.. that I absolutely love for bottom contact and sensitivity. My two dislikes are (weak guides) and (long handle for frogging) so My newest edition is a *** *** 7'3mH for frogging.. I love the short handle (grip takes getting used to) and (sensitivity for bottom contact was good but not duckett) I think at this point I would eventually do either all *** or all duckett.. (leaning to duckett) but that will take awhile due to price.. anyways.. do you guys have this desire?.. or do any of you actually stay brand specific?.. I just didnt know if this was realistic. Thanks
  4. The stretch of mono vs fluro is significant. .and I have yet to break off on fluoro invizx.. to each his own.. but I really never have to battle my line.. so I dont really understand the frustrations you guys have.. I will confess that it is tougher to get a backlash out with fluoro.. but that has taught me to learn how to set up my reel for each bait and control my casts which has saved my arm and shoulder a bunch..
  5. I love invizx.. I just hate the stretch in mono.. unless I need it.. I have seen people go down a power on all their rods and go straight braid.. that maybe a bit adventurous for me.
  6. So I just got a froggin setup and plan to be fishing anything from open water to thick nasty vegitation and lilly pads.. I bought 65lb PP slick in yellow for my reel and so far I love it.. but I am wondering.. is 65lb to big and visible in open water.. just wondering if I am losing fish by having the fat yellow line for open water? Thanks!
  7. I say get rid of what you feel is a waste of space and upgrade from the money on that.. what you have named off in your gear is quality stuff (not that I really like shimano but not gonna chase that rabbit) so your not going to worry about extra gear on hand for much break down or mechanical failure.. upgrade away and like previously said.. if ya wanna hand any of that down to us poor guys.. we would greatly appreciate it. aha.
  8. I am just saying if there is some left over not instead of giving to that... chill out.
  9. I would gladly take some gear off your hands I am not quite a "youth" but I am in grad school so I am poor..
  10. 29.99 in my area.. check it out if ya need a good quality cheap reel to throw!
  11. My local bait and tackle was selling skeet reese rods for 39.99 as they normally do throughout the year.. the C-Rig/Swimbait rod is a 7'6 MH moderate fast action rod that I believe works amazing for cranking med-deep crank, traps, big spinners.. basically any moving bait with some weight to it... PICK ONE UP.. you will love it!
  12. Santa is talking about getting me some fishing tackle for christmas.. and I am thinking about stocking up on crankbaits and maybe some spinnerbaits but my question is going to be... For cranks, do you guys like the 3-5xd stuff or is spro the way to go.. or is there something else I need to look into.. most of what I have is rapala shad raps and some old excalibur medium divers and such.. but my collection is not impressive to me, nor do I have confidence in many of the cranks I have in my box.. What would you guys say if I had to choose maybe 10-15 cranks... (colors included) would be a staple of a good crankbait tackle box.. dont need any 10xd or anything.. and I fish mostly between 0-18ft.. rivers and lakes in the south alabama area.. LET ME KNOW and have fun! Thanks
  13. gosh it is so hard to chose.. I dont get in slop as much as I would like.. but I would like the ability if I had to... so a heavy sounds great.. I just dont know what to do
  14. yeah ... well with my current rods.. I need a bottom contact and a heavy cover rod so that would cover it.. plus there will be straight braid on that rod.. so pitching heavy stuff would work great..
  15. please do a comparison as I plan on buying an *** this week.. but would consider the bps especially on sale
  16. Mark what rod are you using.. just to get an idea.. I am glad someone caught my exact timing.. lol when you get that frog bite.. it feels like waiting an hour to set the hook!
  17. I just dont want to set the hook and break the rod... I feel like with froggin. .I tend to set the hook like Bill Dance... everything else I am not as harsh.. but froggin for some reason.. I give em 1.4 seconds and then try to get the hook in their brains..
  18. cant afford that rusty, I am gettin an ***. just deciding on the details of it.. If you wanna pay the difference.. I will be GLAD to get that champion.
  19. I am getting a *** rod for froggin.. I cant decide on my length or action at this point. I know I will be using a 7.1:1 lews speed spool with 50-65lb braid.. I have been warned that this braid with a Heavy rod will break my rod because "something has to give" so that has me thinking medium heavy.. but not sure.. I have fished with my MH duckett for frogs.. I was using flouro cuz that is all I have.. and I wanted a little more power.. but I was using a 6.4:1.. so it was slower to get slack out and a MH duckett is between medium and medium heavy.. so my main question is.. Is heavy too heavy? is medium heavy sufficient? and finally should I go 7'1 or 7'3.. I will mostly be doing hollow bodies but have thought about doing soft plastic frogs as well which will require some added length.
  20. Would you get the first shipment of the Duckett Ghost Rod.. or a *** *** black .... I am a fan of duckett.. and the ghosts are going to be coming soon to my local bait and tackle .. but not sure what to do... I can get the ghost for around75-80 and the *** will be around 90-95... I am looking at a 7'3 Heavy for either.. FOR FROGGIN!with lews speed spool 7.1:1
  21. Currently crank, I have the duckett for that application minus the squarebill which I use that skeet reese 7' for.. so I was trying to get some difference out of the *** than a 7'mh because of the duckett 7'3mh i already have.. Can you use all that I provided and make the best setup to cover everything..
  22. Here is the things you have: Out of these things combine the pieces (THIS REEL WITH THIS ROD WITH THIS LINE to get the MOST applications covered. Here is the must haves (BOTTOM CONTACT/sensitivity with t-rig and jigs, Cranking(SHALLOW-MEDIUM mostly), Frogging,Shakyhead,Senko,Topwater, spinnerbait, traps, jerkbait) Reels: Lews Speed Spool: 1 6.4:1, 1 7.1:1, and ONE OF YOUR CHOICE Quantum 5.1.1 Reel 2 Daiwa Spinning Reels (not sure of ratio) Rods: Duckett 7'3MH micro magic Skeet Reese Spinner bait/worm 7' medium action moderate fast tip Skeet Reese C-Rig/Swimbait rod 7'6 MH Fast Action moderate fast-fast tip 1 *** series Rod of your choice.. to fill out whatever you need 2 6'6 Cheap Daiwa Spinning rods, medium action med/fast tip Try to complete get the most applications for this arsenal with various combination of line/reel/rod.. remember you have the reel and rod of your choice to help complete the order!... GO!
  23. Just to update you guys on my decision. I went ahead and got a Skeet Reese c/rig swimbait rod that I can use for deeper cranks and heavier moving baits.. I also am still getting the *** 13 black 7'3 heavy as well as a speed spool reel for the ***.. the reel for the swimbait rod will come at christmas.. Now on to another thought.. I could use that c-rig/swimbait rod for froggin.. do I A.frog with that rod and get either a 7'3 sub a.MH ORsub b. H *** for bottom contact B. Get the *** for froggin and use the c-rig/swimbait rod for deeper cranks and heavy swim jigs... or C. use the c-rig swimbait rod for froggin and not get an *** and save for another Duckett or Dobyns Savvy.. and dont say get a champ.. because I think I am going to rule that out of my budget permanently as this could get out of hand. WHAT DO YOU BOYS SAY!.. thanks for following this thing so long guys.. you have helped a bunch
  24. This is a "early christmas present" I am just trying to determine how to best use my funds
  25. for 50 bucks cheaper I can get a ***.. which I have heard good reviews... and if I like them delve into the ***... the savvy price point is kinda where I am at for my bottom contact.. which is why I have liked my duckett.. but I do wonder alot.. "I wonder if that dobyns champ would be THAT much better.. I can get ducketts at about 135-145.. the champ at the CHEAPEST is 210... thats another speed spool..... just saying..
