  1. not to spawn argument but my grandfather has an original bb-1 that still works fine.. I think gear lasts as long as you take care of it.. I never broke a guide on a rod until I spent money on a duckett and a guide flew off easy.. up to that point it was the most expensive rod I owned... I am just wandering what gives on some of the prices of shimano and diawa stuff
  2. I have been a lews guy since the beginning. I just love that I can buy a 89 dollar reel and be happy .. or can spend 199 (full price) and have an awesome one... but now I am looking at spinning gear.. and I feel that lews falls short.. so I am looking at the symetre and saros stradic fj.. but then I started looking at shimano baitcasting line.. and seeing the show off your gear page with all the core reels and high end diawa.. and then for even the strongest of shimano supporters so much lack of support for the newer curado and citica and how the caenan at the price of the speed spool is barely ever mentioned.. so some of my questions.(shimano daiwa etc..) How far up in the Shimano line in baitcasters do you feel you have to go to get a quality reel? Why do you stick with a company that continues to cheapen their product and then charge more? I like being brand specific and so going with the shimano spinning reel makes me consider at least looking at shimano baitcaster .. but then again seeing how most have to spend 199 full price for the lowest of the quality reels of a company.. I just dont see where it is worth it.. Hope this doesnt offend anyone.. just trying to consider my options and always had some questions.
  3. Sorry now i see its all hawgtech.. that is cool stuff.. wish I could afford those accents on a reel..
  4. Where did you get the color matching parts? or did you send it of and have it done.. this looks like a great idea!
  5. Looks great man.. glad you got inspired!
  6. Thanks guys.. I want to try and build one like Goose52.. doesnt look tough at all really..
  7. Planning on building a rod rack for the apartment just to get my stuff out of the car as I dont have a boat.. does anyone have any schematics for one or ideas.. I have thought about doing it with wood.. but have also considered getting some PVC pipe to drop them into and wood for the top end. but I want it to look good... LET ME KNOW!
  8. I know it sounds lame.. but if you are talking like 6xds.. I have not found a rod under 100 to beat a skeet reese c-rig swimbait.. of course I bought mine new for 39.99... that makes it better.. but it has the perfect flex for deep crankbaits.. and you can huck them a mile
  9. I would like to hear your reviews for sure! let us know
  10. You got to tell me how you like that 766.. I am thinking about it for my next rod!
  11. AS I see people still posting. To let you all know the contract was returned to me and signed and everything is in order. This company is just very slow at communicating.. its been a good learning process though
  12. Spinning reels in the same price range.. will be using on a dobyns champ 703 for shakyheads and occasionally flukes.. Opinions? All my baitcasters are lews.. but I have heard to avoid their spinning reels.. so this are the two best looking to me.. any other suggestions near this price range 100 dollars or more if on sale.. but need to spend no more than 100.. Let Me Know!
  13. thanks for all the suggestions...I guess I still have alot of research to do as most everyone recommended something different..
  14. I actually got some nice waterproof boots and they are insulated.. LOVE THEM and wear them from october to march!
  15. I am just now getting into tourney fishing and when fishing a trail.. you cant just decide to stay home when it rains.. so I am going to invest in a good rain suit this year. I currently use a rain jacket to keep the top half dry from REI.. but end up with a soggy bottom by the end of the day... at the least I want a good bib. One thing that is huge to mention.. I live in South Alabama.. and while it was cold today.. it isnt odd to have days in the upper 90s with 80-90% humidity.. the air is so thick that your boat can float on it.. and I like to wear shorts and flops and a long t-shirt.. what I really want is a bib that will work in hot and cold/mostly hot and a rain jacket that will work when going 70 across the water.. and keep my dry and warm.. I will probably strip it most of the year and just wear the bib.. I know the 100mph and cabela suits exist.. just wanting to know what would be best for my application. THANKS!
  16. I have learned to keep my setup the same at the suggestion of gerald swindle.. whether that is open and loose and learning to cast again haha (thumb control) or setting it up like you normally cast and learning to pitch that way.. that way when you are pitching to say a dock close up.. and you want to hit the corners.. you dont have to switch rigs.. or change your setup.. because on the water, time is important.. personally I learned to loosen up my breaks a few ticks.. and keep my free spool nearly the same.. hope this helps!
  17. Dobyns Champion 766 FLIP and Lews Tournament Pro 7.1:1 to rip them out.. 65lb Power Pro Slick and 1oz tungsten weights. Punching skirts and creature baits of your choice. and a sturdy flipping hook..
  18. How much does the Dobyns Champ 734 Full Handle Weigh? and Duckett Micro Magic 7'3 MH and this may be a swing but the Dobyns Coalition 704 Casting Thanks
  19. I typically throw 1/4 to 3/8 oz T-rigs and need a rod for that.. and also a rod for 3/8-3/4 jigs... I mostly pitch to docks and laydowns fishing 4-18ft. I also have a rod currently that covers (Swim jigs, Traps, Crankbaits) and love that rod so much I will just buy more of it... Things needed eventually are a Fluke/senko rod a spinning shakyhead rod a flipping stick for seminole a c-rig rod so what I have considered is a 734C FH ..or 735C FH...CHAMP A coalition ... either a 703 spinning or the 704 and a savvy either the 703 spinning.. or a 765 FLIP I can basically afford a champ a coaltion and a savvy right now...
  20. So if you are chunking a t-rig under and around docks or wood/brush.. is a snell knot okay in this situation? I am new to the snell knot but wanted to see where all it "could" be used efficiently Also Can you do a snell knot on an offset hook or a EWG offset or is it strictly for the flipping hook?
  21. Yeah I got everyone on my list a good gift.. and my dad is going to get a brand new froggin setup (he has never frogged) loves topwater.. so he is going to love froggin... anyway on to the naughty part.. I have spent alot of time mulling over it.. and have decided to join the darkside.. yeah I am selling my duckett and getting a dobyns rod to replace it.. First line of business will be a 734FH Champ (oooh ... AHHHH) and I think I may just bite on the coalition 40% off deal and get... well not sure yet.. either a 703 or a 704.. I think the 704 would be a more versatile bottom contact rod.. but the 703 would do well with spinner baits/chatterbaits/and flukes.. another arsenal rod I need.. hmmmm. any suggestions? and Merry (early) Christmas to you all.. and may the bait monkey not knock too hard on your shoulder like it did me this season!
  22. THIS JUST IN: Pictures posted on their FB page of the reel and stated it was in the last stages of production.. so I am assuming they will release right before or at iCast 2014.. of course ghost rods were supposed to be out in October.. I mean November.. I mean December.. I mean eventually right?
