  1. I need to upgrade my trout fishing gear for the upcoming season. I'm looking at a 5' UL st croix with a lightweight reel (7.2oz) I've trout fished a long time with 4# mono throwing super dupers, panther martins and drifting the occasional egg. I'm going to start targeting bigger brown trout (14+ inches) in small rivers with jerkbaits along with lures listed above. Does anyone have suggestion on what brand/type of line I should get? Pline copolymer got good reviews on tackle tour, but poor reviews on TW. Should I go pure fluoro? Will the sub 40 degree temperatures effect the fluoro?
  2. 3/8 brush similar to 1/2 but slower fall
  3. Should I go swept handle or straight? What is lexa100 weight with the 94mm?
  4. Have you got your hands on that Lexa yet?
  5. I agree, but was just posting something I had read when searching for swimbait info.
  6. I just got the 7.1 Lexa 100 for christmas and since it's still the off season, I was just wondering what kind of modifications can I make to it? I could upgrade the bearings, but I'm under the impression that many daiwa parts are interchangeable...am I mistaken? I'm not dead set on modifying the reel, but I am curious as to what is possible.
  7. I just got a *** *** 7'3" H xfast action. Probably out of your price range, but I'm going to use it for punching and frogging as it has length, power and a good action to fling the frog and walk it. *** comes in a 7'3" H for 130 bucks with a fast action. I'd also suggest looking at Daiwa and Lews rods as they have a large assortments at various price ranges. My 7' Team Daiwa T rod in MH also works satisfactory with punching and good with frogging and is under 80 bucks.
  8. I've considered picking up a trout swimbait...reason being, trout are stocked often around here and surely a big bass will pound some of the smaller ones. But I've read that California bass are really the only bass that are conditioned to eat trout. Another concern is that when they stock, the bass are inactive and unlikely to chase down a trout...before the musky kill them all. As for swimbaits under 6 inches and <1.5 oz....I don't see any reason not to use them as that's not an outrageous size for a bass's meal.
  9. I'm not sure who produced the m1. it's at my parents (shared gift with my dad) I'll have to ask for serial. my girlfriend got me a lexa100 reel...goes great with the ***
  10. m1 carbine that my dad restored and a 7'3" H *** ***....After I asked for an ***. quite the surprise.
  11. never considered a d-bomb on a shakey
  12. I'll take anything
  13. fluoro sinks...making your lure drop slightly more realistic (in heavy cover like those lily pads in your picture, the fluoro will get caught on the pads so sink rate is really no different from braid). It's also hard to see under water, so it's good around sparse cover. If you watch for nicks in your line, you won't have a problem around timber. fishing in heavy weeds though...go braid as it will cut through better and give a better hookset.
  14. They use mustads. I really like my revenge swimjigs and have never had one straighten out (yet). I'll probably buy a couple packs...
  15. Anyone have these crankbaits? They have been reviewed well by tackletour and are priced well. The color options are very nice. What quality can be expected for R2S trebles?
  16. i watched video of swaver and its swimming action doesnt appear to be as good.
  17. i didnt care much for the bluegill color. baby bass looks most realistic.
  18. Just saw these on the retailer to not be named. Pretty good price and they look pretty cool on their videos. Anyone ever use one or know much about them? Might be a christmas present for the bait monkey from me.
  19. as stated, VMC offset shank's have 3* hook offset. It could help, give it a shot, they are cheap.
  20. take some out and fry em up with a little bit of onion and garlic! yum!
  21. different hook for different techniques. straight shank for heavy cover (really can use them anytime). snell knot helps hook them in meeaty part of upper mouth and keeps them on in cover. offset shank for regular texas rigging. offset increases hookups since hook is exposed more. extra wide gap for thicker bodied baits and swim baits. the ewg provides more room for the plastic to get it out of the way of hooksets. putting these thick baits on an offset and the plastic may ball up and you only set hook up to the barb and lose your fish.
  22. i got some in the freezer. cant wait to thaw em
  23. they have a logo printed on them so you dont resell...and you have to buy hooks
  24. caught pb smallie on a motoroil one on a jighead.
  25. no. ive been on a LOT of forums...chat feature is either abused and useless or completely neglected. Its not as cool and useful as some think
