  1. For reference the woman who won BASS a couple years ago didn't follow bass fishing and just guessed. I do some research but I don't spin myself out.
  2. I've cranked balsa to the point of nearly spinning out to catch bass in clear water. Cool to see how they followed on normal retrieve but went balls to the wall to eat the crank when it was flying by.
  3. Don't need to set the hook. You may be ripping holes in the fish and when he head shakes the lure pops out. I use mod/modfast for cranks and loose drag.
  4. I was also thinking of a jackal pompador jr. Be easy to work and he has always loved jitterbugs.
  5. Mid 60s and from boat. He doesn't have many poppers so I'll look at that. I love my ricos.
  6. Dad's Bday is coming up and I need suggestions on cool/unique lures to get him. He's becoming difficult to shop for so I'd also take other accesories or apparel suggestions.
  7. I am interested in the tat72 glass but it's right at the edge of my budget and I've never fished glass.
  8. I want a bass mafia coffin. A lot of small slots for tackle and maximizes room. Also floats and stands up to being run over by vehicles.
  9. Phenix has always been on my wishlist. It's hard to justify taking that 7'7" specialty rod on kayak or take it to club tournaments as Co angler when I only take 4.
  10. My only problem is that most in the club will make one cast to a badass laydown or skip it entirely. That's without even having a pattern down. Ridiculous.
  11. I personally don't have much slack when frog fishing. In fact the slack I do have helps the bass take frog. If you are tossing jigs spoons and punch rigs and fall on slack line, then 8+ is more useful.
  12. I have a 7'7" m tatula that I rarely use and am considering a new rod. The rod doesn't throw one ounce lures well and is too long for accurate presentations with smaller cranks. I throw lil john dd and a duo g27 from time to time but not enough for a dedicated deep crank rod. My budget is $150. I'm torn between glass, composite, and graphite. I like the okuma tcs series and use the APC for cranks, but the tatula glass gets good reviews. Lucky craft crankbait rod also gets great reviews and is at a great price point. I'd also consider building a rod over winter as I don't need the rod this season.
  13. Congrats okie
  14. I've fished a pond like this. It does in fact have holes and edges here and there. Lots of bluegill and fry all over. Still trying to nail down the productive areas but soft jerkbaits and trig soft swimbaits seem to be productive.
  15. Oh I punch. But to cover water for active bass, punching isn't as effective, especially when most of the cover is homogeneous.
  16. I picked Faircloth this time around and it's working for me. Also had nate wellman and Kevin hawk who both had respectable showings. Josh Bertrand was a risky pick but I didn't see anyone else in bracket who stood out for st clair. He was a bust. I also picked Ehler as he is a hell of a fisherman and I figured he was due for result...but just missed 50 cut. As of yesterday I gained 5%. Better than losing it.
  17. There are two levels of stability in kayaks. I call it initial stability and secondary. First one can make you feel shakey but when you really lean into it the outside edge of the kayak stablizes you. You just have to rock the kayak in shallow water to get a feel for it. My feel free lure rocks some when I stand, but I can lean and take a leak off the side and the kayak is rock solid.
  18. I've been fishing a large pond via kayak with thick large lily pads most of which stand above the water as much as 3 or 4 inches. This can make working a frog through them tedious at times. Is there an easier/more effective technique to cover water in these pads? Soft plastic frog?
  19. Part of fishing. Best thing to do is pop hook out asap and get it back in water with or without eye. I've caught a couple one eyed fish and I'm sure others here have as well.
  20. Got my hoist for like 20 dollars from amazon. Haven't installed yet
  21. Trolling in progress
  22. My t31016 had no issues at all with my HH tool.
  23. I got a hedgehog about 6 months ago and love it. The boca one was terrible in my experience and could never tell when I was going to damage a pin or pop it out successfully.
  24. "Freds dead jig"?
  25. Who the hell is fred
