  1. Metanium all daynium.
  2. Tax sale is usually 10% off. Memorial Day will be 15% likely.
  3. Thanks! I'd definitely discuss all that with your surgeon. I also found the following helpful for reducing anxiety post-surgery. http://www.uhhospitals.org/case/services/surgery/our-divisions/general-and-gastrointestinal-surgery/comprehensive-hernia-center/postoperative-instructions/groin-inguinal-hernias/laparoscopic-inguinal-hernia-surgery-care-instructions I had one inguinal and one femoral, both on the same side, repaired lapro. Surgery was six weeks ago today. The recommendation I received was 10 lbs or under for the first four weeks, then two more weeks until any weightlifting. Personally I felt terrible up until last week, but my surgeon said it's fifty-fifty on the pain thing; some people are pain-free two weeks after or so. One of mine was a tear instead of a vulnerability so that may be part of the reason. I'm going to wait a few months until I squat or pull anything over a plate. Today is going to be the acid test because I've done very little since beginning of December aside from shoveling snow earlier this week. I can say that I didn't feel confident fishing within four weeks of surgery (we had some warm days and it was tempting). Your mileage may vary. Definitely bounce all of this off your surgeon though. They do this all the time. I'm also happy to answer any further questions you (or anyone else, this is pretty common) may have based on my experience.
  4. Fury 795 is a good place to start. I'd probably say a rounder is the way to go. Cardiff 300/301 seems popular as a budget choice. If you had a low gear Zillion or something I would also try that. Not sure about the CH200E5.
  5. Dude, me too. High five. We can be double-hernia buddies. I had surgery end of January and my weight restriction comes off tomorrow. I hope you have a speedy recovery!
  6. I might even be looking at MH spinning for 5" Senkos depending on the cover and rod brand. My preference would be a St. Croix rod 7' M in whatever model you like with a Shimano or Daiwa spinning reel.
  7. Yep. If I ever give up tackle enthusiasm, I'll just have a bunch of OG Zillions. I think one of the reason that we hate on new Daiwa reels is that they got the Zillion so right in so many ways and things since then have been, well, eh.
  8. I would consider the Dobyns Fury 735, the Daiwa Tatula 7'4" H (if you can swing the extra inch), and the Okuma TCS 7'3" H. The Tatula may come in at close to $150 but the other two should be well under. Slightly outside your budget is the Loomis E6X 884 swimbait rod; it would be $160 with a 20% sale. However it's pretty much ideal for your needs. Unless you equate Loomis with Shimano, in which case please disregard.
  9. I'm not really into the reel seat, but you can do worse at $100. Black and blue looks nice also.
  10. Any reason you're looking at those brands? Sponsor discount from a club or something? Is there a length you prefer? Treble or single hooked baits? Cork or EVA? Pepsi or Coke?
  11. Shimano and Abu do not share handles. Abu, Daiwa, and Lews do though. Hawgtech is where I go for my Shimano handles.
  12. Hooray more Tatulas! Said no one ever.
  13. My experience with Red Label indicates that higher pound tests require more braking. The line likes to 'lash. I had 14 lb on a Ci4+ and it needed 3/4 brakes on. However the 10 lb is excellent and controls nicely. You really can't compare RL to Sniper as Sniper handles like a thousand times better. It's also possible you have a bad spool, but your experience sounds similar to mine.
  14. Braid on a soft rod with sharp trebles shouldn't cause you any issue. Plus the leader adds a bit of stretch. Personally I won't throw not-braid on a spinning reel anymore after using 10 lb power pro.
  15. 7' MLF St Croix Triumph, Shimano Stradic 1000, 10 lb braid with some sort of leader. Pike love shad raps.
  16. Certainly try a MLF spinning rod from the St. Croix lineup of your choosing. If you already have the Medium, it will likely be fine.
  17. Hello. Detroit area here. Ice is icy. Hoping for open water mid-March.
  18. Personally I would buy the new Mojo but I prefer the fuji seat and cork. However the Rage is less expensive and you may like it.
  19. Probably Malaysia. Apparently the Malaysian factory is sweet but I'm going off customer service info there.
  20. Pac bay components are meh. Handle is love it or hate it. Blank material is solid. Fair buy at $89.
  21. I would go spinning for shakeyheads but I'm always a fan of casting rods for any situation. I *think* there is a 6'10" ML Zodias casting rod available usdm. I like those at $200. Having a casting rod built on an ML St. Croix spinning blank would also be neat. I tend to go fast action since I use braid for this technique. Alphas SV is my finesse reel of choice sound $200. It would also match the Zodias nicely.
  22. Megabass rods have this snake oil "it" factor mystique whatever that draws people (me!) in. I like them and I like the "community". Custom is almost always the most efficient way to go. Mike @ DVT built a very nice rod for my girlfriend last year. It was very reasonable and would have been more reasonable if my girlfriend did not insist on this god awful sky camo EVA foam grip.
  23. Do scissors count as a fancy tool? I cut braid with scissors. I always knew I was fancy. Abrasion resistance is a little overstated but pretty spot on. Braid is a tool, not a way of life. Use it where you see fit.
  24. Which application? The Legend Elite, being newer, has the edge in some components but the blank on the NRX is hard to top.
  25. So part of my post disappeared. I disagree that Shimano reel quality has decreased however I am not allowed to provide examples to support my point of view.
