  1. Yep. August is bad and it should feel bad. Too hot and too many folks out. Hot summer usually means a good fall bite though.
  2. Kinda depends what you do and how you frog. I'd lean towards 1 since I don't care for xf tapers on frog rods and a stout MH handles most frogging situations in Michigan.
  3. Yeah if you're determined to drop money on rods, get 2-3 exceptional ones. $800 gets you a pair of new Destroyers or GLX's. Money can in fact buy happiness.
  4. Not impressed with the Boil Trigger. Pomp and Pomp Jr. get a lot of love. For my $15.99, the Lucky Craft Gunfish 115 is the best walking bait.
  5. I use a 4/0 Owner Beast and a 5/0 Owner Twistlock, sooo... both?
  6. Barbless EVERYTHING! Less harm to fish, less harm to plastics, and call me crazy but I seem to be getting better hook penetration.
  7. You can. I like a 5 gear better but I've used 7's and it works.
  8. Straight fluoro because I like straight fluoro.
  9. Very light Cal's on crankbait reels, dry on the frog punch reel.
  10. Black and blue jig with a trailer that moves lots of water.
  11. Yeah, one of those spinning rods for $160 sounds good. This BFS casting thing is just murder on the wallet.
  12. Believe the hype. Casting reels are sweet.
  13. Thanks for the heads up. I'm going to hit the Detroit store on Tuesday.
  14. 10 lb cxx is pretty close to 17 lb invizx. Good for square bills and traps. More than I'd use for something like a DT10.
  15. If you have Pike, use a leader of some sort. Otherwise straight braid is fine.
  16. Bank fishing during the day in summer can suck. Downsize your presentation and work your way up. Sounds like you need a few dinks to get the confidence back.
  17. So popping the 90 is a good idea. Otherwise I'm in the not-impressed-with-the-straight-retrieve camp.
  18. Gunfish uber alles.
  19. BOO! I guess I won't have to drive down to Dundee anymore.
  20. This time of year there is a lot of heavy grass and pads where I fish, which makes your standard bass jig sort of a salad magnet. However, it's a good idea if the cover is more rocky and woody. Also if you're on shore, fishing a jig uphill isn't the most fun thing in the world.
  21. I would try thin braid and a leader if you're considering it already, especially on a soft rod. Sweep down on the set and let the drag work when the fish runs. Make sure your hooks are sharp as well.
  22. Nylon or copolymer is good for spinnerbaits. I like the braid and mod-fast rod for the other two techniques. If it's working, don't change.
  23. I'm really into the Orochi XX Flat Side Special near $300. Sort of a do-everything shallow to mid depth rod.
  24. Girlfriend has a Crosstrek. It's not bad.
