Kinda depends what you do and how you frog. I'd lean towards 1 since I don't care for xf tapers on frog rods and a stout MH handles most frogging situations in Michigan.
Yeah if you're determined to drop money on rods, get 2-3 exceptional ones. $800 gets you a pair of new Destroyers or GLX's. Money can in fact buy happiness.
Bank fishing during the day in summer can suck. Downsize your presentation and work your way up. Sounds like you need a few dinks to get the confidence back.
This time of year there is a lot of heavy grass and pads where I fish, which makes your standard bass jig sort of a salad magnet. However, it's a good idea if the cover is more rocky and woody. Also if you're on shore, fishing a jig uphill isn't the most fun thing in the world.
I would try thin braid and a leader if you're considering it already, especially on a soft rod.
Sweep down on the set and let the drag work when the fish runs. Make sure your hooks are sharp as well.
