  1. Thanks I'm going to try down sizing, especially when I'm on a river. As a novice Bass fisherman, I think I often make the mistake of assuming that huger tackle automatically will land me the bigger fish.
  2. I am a novice bass fisher, and I have had trouble adjusting to jigs as well. I can't seem to get my jig in the water without making too much commotion. - Is it mandatory to be able to pitch to fish jigs effectively? (I still use only a spinning reel and have trouble pitching with it). -I have caught 3 fish on swim jigs, but none on a standard jig. I fish the standard jigs pretty much the same way I do T-rigged worms/brush hogs/grubs/etc, but with no success. Am I fishing too fast, too slow?
  3. Thanks for advice. I'm throwing a lot of swim jigs as of late, with success, and I really like how they cover a lot of water quickly. I'll check out swim baits, I shyed away from them in the past cause I assumed they were gimickey.
  4. Got quite a few at LOZ, several at Creve Coeur, Bush, Forest park, all the usual local spots. Today at Queeny park had good day (first time there). Obviously not all Bass I get reach 3 lbs, but that has been my ceiling thus far.
  5. I'm a relatively new Bass fisherman, and this summer have been really getting a lot of casts in, getting out a few times every week, even if it's just to a small close by pond. While I'm having good success and improving my all around skills, as well as learning new tackle, I seem to be plateauing out at 2 and 3 pound bass. I've graduated from worms and brush hogs, and have had success jigging and cranking; haven't yet figured out spinner baits. I can't seem to make the jump to landing some 5 lb.+ lunkers. Any suggestions?
  6. I third what Marty and BigBlock said. I also find I have more luck from the bank when I stand a few feet back from the water if possible. While I lose some casting accuracy and distance, I make up for it with lack of shadows and noise.
  7. I caught a small Bass and a very big Blue Gill the other day on crank bait. I've seen a picture of a huge (5lb.ish) Bass my buddy got there once, so it's definitely worth monkeying around at for me, especially because it is so close to my house.
  8. South St. Louis. Grew up fishing here and there on vacations, and recently have really gotten into Bass fishing. I don't own a boat (yet) and I've been trying to get to relatively close places for bank fishing to practice and become more proficient on various tackle so when I get the chance to be out on a boat I can maximize my time. I've been hitting Creve Coeur, Bush, and to lesser extents Tilles, Carondalet, and Suson, and am going to try Queeny soon, any other worthwhile suggestions not yet mentioned on this thread? I've also heard of some place in West Alton run by MO Conservation that has some real horses, and I think I found it the other day, called something Island, I forget exact name. It looked like tough going from the shore (obviously Jon Boat would be ideal) but I didn't get a chance to explore it too long because my 4 year old son was getting annoying. Any thoughts on this place? Thanks
  9. It's decent as far as bank fishing goes. It is a natural lake. I have caught a few decent Largemouth off the dock very early in the morning. There is an interesting looking channel to the far left that goes under the Page bridge that I assume connects to the Missouri River that I'm going to check out once the weather cools a bit.
