  1. Alright, did a little digging and this is what I have figured out thus far. The tan and blue wire connects to the back of the head where the overheat sensor is. This wire runs to around the engine to the side where a plastic cover contains a few different wire connections. After removing the cover, I see the tan/blue stripe wire connects to an apparent grounding screw. Two other wires also connect here. I removed the screw and found a second tan/blue stripe wire running from this screw into rubber conduit that joins several other wires (possibly ends at the throttle console?). The third and final wire ending at this screw is all tan and runs toward the lower portion of the engine where I lose sight of it. When I disconnect the tan/blue stripe wire that runs to the overheat sensor and leave the other two wires connected at the screw, I still get the alarm. When I disconnect any of the other two wires from the screw and leave the overheat sensor wire connected, I no longer get the alarm (I also do not get the initial turn key beep at the console when I do this). I disconnected all wires from the screw and touched the tan wire with the tan/blue stripe rubber conduit wire and I get the alarm when they touch. My knowledge of electrical systems is pretty limited. Any thoughts on this?

  3. I have a 1995 Mercury 75 HP 2 stroke outboard. I believe I may have a faulty overheat alarm sounding, but I wanted to get some opinions first. Also looking for advice on how to change it out or determine if that is really the problem. The alarm sounds at the ignition by the console. Its a continuous buzz alarm but it changes pitch and volume on occasion, like a bad connection. The alarm sounds even after the boat has been sitting for a week and I turn the key without starting the motor, so I know it isn't overheating at that point. I have ruled out the common issue with the oil reservoir sensor going bad because I disconnected the wires to it after starting my troubleshooting on the alarm. Thoughts?
  4. 1995 Skeeter 1650. It is a 17 foot semi deep V hull with a 1995 75 HP Mercury. I've had it for four years now and I hope to keep it running as long as I can.
  5. I just saw that the state is planning on releasing 10-13 inch trout into one of the lakes I frequent. They are planning to do this 04/04/15. I think they do it every year and it's usually tied to some type of state sponsored fishing event for kids. Keeping in mind that this lake is in Southern Ohio, is about 39-45 feet deep at max, and reaches water temps in the 80's in the summer: Do the trout stand a chance at surviving a full year in the lake? What effect, if any, does the trout stocking have on the bass and other "native" species of the lake?
  6. Just three: Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee. I flew out to California a few years back and hoofed it around Lake Isabella for 4 days each morning carrying all my gear and got completely skunked. I ended up heading up to the river that fed the lake and caught some trout on salmon eggs.

  11. I'm looking to place an order for some jigs from Siebert Outdoors. I was wondering if anyone had some suggestions as to which type of jig and color you like from them... I am thinking the Big O' Brush Jig looks pretty nice. All in all the jigs look to be made with a lot of quality and I see nothing but good reviews on here so I am excited to buy a few from him.
  12. I have a 95 Skeeter that is 84 inches at the trailer tires (widest point). Its 17 ft and does the job for me. There are definitely options out there and even a few glass options within your required measurements. The hardest part is going to be finding those options in the used market. If you are thinking Skeeter, Nitro, Triton, etc. I wouldnt rule out the multi species models. A lot of them are within your size requirements and they work just about as well as any bass boat.

  14. Hubtech: I wouldnt mount one on my TM until I had a replacement for the transom mounted one. Maybe it's just me, but I find that I get a lot more out of my transom mounted humminbird that I read while under main motor power at the wheel than I do from the TM mounted fishfinder that I read on the front casting deck. The 2-5 mph readings I get at the wheel are definitely better images and I think it's a more worthwhile spot for the higher end fishfinders. I moved my older model fishfinder up front to the TM once I had a higher quality replacement for it at the wheel. Now on to answering your question: when I installed my transducer to the TM, I fully expected it to be an "aiming transducer", like you said. I fish with my fiancee's father on his boat and this has been my experience with his TM mount fishfinder. I was surprised to find that mine remains constant no matter which way I point mine. It may be because I just have it at the right angle though. I guess it's all in how you angle it, but it's definitely possible to cater to your preference- whether you want an "aiming fishfinder" or not.   15. I second what Tony said. The engine is fine. It's the transmission and the brakes that I would be worried about.
