  1. It is a pistol grip casting rod and the older Fenwick used a different system to numer the power. My father-in-law uses a 5 power for spinnerbaits, a 6 power for jigs and thicker cover and a 7 power for bit baits and pike.
  2. I actually played around with that same rod today. My father-in-law has about 12-16 fenwicks from the 70's and If I had to put a current power rating on it I would say its equal to a ML spinning rod. it would be good for small worms or lightweight tackle but the current med-hvy rods are much more powerful, but like others have said it depends on the weight of the bait. I use an Abu garcia Veritas Med-Moderate rod for cranking and even though its rated for 1/4 to 3/4 it feels overloaded with 5/8oz deep divers.
  3. Places like that are why I have a rod with 20lb P-Line CXX!!
  4. Man, that pic is perfect. I would spend half an hour dissecting that spot.
  5. To answer the op's question it doesn't really matter too much. I bought a 1/4lb spool of berkley big game 12lb for 7$. It has 1200 yards so it's all I use for backing whether it's braid or fluoro, spinning or casting. And I agree with snook on this one as well. I put a full 150yards of 40lb ppowerpro braid on my frog reel 2 years ago and this winter I had to unspool it and add 20yards of backer. And in another 2 years I might have to do it again. NBD.
  6. In that price range I would go with a less tournament pro, revo stx, or the tatula type r. All can be had for 150 or less
  7. Gander mtn has a lews tournament SK for 99$. Its probably just a store specific model but is still has dual brakes and the extended length handle. Almost considered one for me.
  8. Baitmonkey struck again as I have already just ordered the following: Abu garcia revo elite 8 Abu garcia revo winch gen 3 Abu garcia revo Ltd Lews tournament pro Not that any of those are new releases but new none the less Pinnacle dhc5 6'6" med-fast Robyn champion 735c fh. I also have an order sitting in my tw cart calling to me. The fact that it's 64° here in minnesota but we still have a hard water problem makes the baitmonkey's pull that much harder to resist.
  9. Thank you guys for your replies. I do have a caliper and I will look into the Fuji set. I bought a cheaper set from gander mtn and even the smallest was sloppy loose.
  10. I have an Abu Garcia Veritas rod with a tip guide missing an insert. I have been looking at replacing it and saw that some have different "tube sizes". I am going under the assumption that the tube size is the hole for the actual rod but I just want to be sure. more specifically what unit is that measured in? MM? or is it some other value based number relating to some chart? in addition how tight of a fit should it be? thanks in advance I know there are a lot of rod builders here.
  11. I dont know if youre mistaken about how much line you are going through or what because your reel only holds about 120yards so your estimate is almost 3 reels worth of line in a weeek and a half. Maybe you need to practice tying knots without 3 feet of line left over.
  12. It seems like youre just starting out with baitcasters so I would recommend something cheap like Suffix elite mono, yo-zuri hybrid co-polymer, or even some berkley XL mono. those are all cheap like but very good lines. I would say you should start with either 12 or 15lb rating.
  13. I own a STX, Premier, and elite 8 (all gen3) and I have to say I never thought about it. After disassembling them (over the winter) I can say that they all look identical aside from the drag clicker parts and the teeeth being cut for different gear ratios. From what I can remember the drag clicker parts should be able to be transfered to any gen 3 revo and they should work. I make no guarantees but you shouldnt have to change anything else to get the clicks.
  14. I'm with DVT on this one. I stay away from house brand reels. I do have a couple of rods but I got them for cheap so its ok.
  15. Im curious about it but at 4lb it has the same diameter is 10lb gamma.
  16. BPS PQ, or look for a used reel on here or even ebay.
  17. I have 20, 30, 40, and 50lb on casting reels. all have their purposes but for light cover worm setups I would say 30 would be the sweetspot with a leader.
  18. thats not how i read it...and I have never seen braid that small. FWIW if you want something smaller I would recommend trying berkley nano-fil. from my understanding its kinda like a mono-filament-braid. you would need to do your own research but it goes al the way down to 1lb test that is .001". after looking at the braided lines on TW gamma torque has the thinnest daimeter. 10lb gamma is .004"
  19. I use 8lb spiderwire braid with an equivalent of 1lb mono for walleye fishing and plastics with a leader. but I only use it on spinning reels
  20. that must be in the WAAAYYYY beyond!
  21. Bait monkey struck again.... this time I got a dobyns champion 735c for frogs and a revo elite 8-L for plastics....with the zillion type-R and the Daiwa S-class rod and the 3 orders from TW, and the 4 trips to cabelas the total is somewhere near $2000... And the wife doesnt know....Shhhh!
  22. I have the cabelas advanced angler tackle bad which is similar and it works great.
  23. I use 12lb yo-zuri for most casting setups that dont use braid. for finesse I like to use 12lb Fluoro which is a step up compared to what most people use due to the reports i have seen that give fluoro a 75-90% knot strength. But i use 15, 20,30, 40lb braid on my baitcasters also.
