  1. I treat fishing line like a toolbox, use the right line (Disclaimer: MY OPINION) for the right presentation.
  2. To each their own. I use braid and like that i can feel everything. I dont want stretch, and there isnt much risk of ripping the hook out if you dont swing for the fences.
  3. Braid is more sensitive on a tight line. Fluoro wins for slack line.
  4. the Abu garcia Revo STX or lews Tournament Pro will also last a lifetime.
  5. thats a big jump. make sure you can afford it and keep fishing. otherwise I would highly recommend Lews or abu garcia.
  6. I use straight braid for jigs in heavier cover. I will add a 20lb CXX leader for lighter cover. if i can use lighter line than that I will just throw plastics.
  7. If you don't have a heavy rod then I would recommend a heavy. Better to be overpower for the cover than find some heavier cover than you thought you would find.
  8. I think of line like I do reels and rods. Its a toolbox. I use different line for different techniques. IMO there is no one best line because they each have their pros/cons. Can fish be line shy? I believe so depending on conditions that there are way to many to get into. I have 9 casting setups and of those 6 of 9 have braid. Some might have leaders if I feel the conditions dictate. Depending on conditions I have 8,12, and 20lb fluoro. You will get comfortable with the right way to fish each and gain confidence. Or you will find a different line to try. There is really no right or wrong answer to your question. Sorry. Here's a list of what I use. Spinnerbait-braid (20lb Cxx leader if needed) Crankbaits-braid (20lb sunline if needed) Frogs-braid (NO LEADER) Jigs-braid (12 or 20lb Fluoro depending on cover if needed) Jerkbaits- braid (12lb yo-zuri or Fluoro leader always) Flipping-braid (NO LEADER) Plastics 1- 12lb fluoro Plastics 2- 12lb yo-zuri
  9. The way i did it was to use your other hand and cover the spool. that was an emergency only option for me because I almost never hit the target when I have to stop it like that.
  10. The only lizards i have used and caught fish on are the SK rage hawg in black with red fleck. Cant say ive used too many or too often though.
  11. 7' med-heavy for sure. And probably a fast action. I would look at st croix mojo, ***, or a a fenwick.
  12. I have never considered it an option. Good braid has a smaller diameter and high strength. And mono/fluoro is more invisible and has better abrasion resistance. I wish you luck and hope you do well. Take my opinion with a grain of salt because i have never used it becuase i feel there are better options. Same goes for berkley ironsilk.
  13. Those big hooksets are for mono and fluoro line which stretches. To the OP you shouldn't have to set the hook that hard with braid. You need to reel down and pull. You do need to be firm and load your rod up so that you can tell that there is resistance. Once you have pulled the hook should VERY easily pass through the plastic bait you're using. The only thing that might cause an issue is how deep you have the tip down in the bait AND the angle of the tip. If the tip is buried deep and pointing into the body of the bait it may not come out of the plastic before the fish has a chance to spit it out.
  14. Kind of correct. Bowling lanes use oil not wax... Gonna have to get some more deep cranks for the new combo.
  15. Is that a bowling lane in the background?
  16. The first 10 days of april the baitmonkey has got me for a lews bb1 pro, fenwick aetos cranking rod, spool of 50lb sufix 832, 150$ worth of jerkbaits, 100$ worth of tungsten, and another 100$ of plastics and other pitchin gear.
  17. The problem with that is that its coming from a spinning spool to a baitcast spool. There will be no way to insure that it stays like that. Which is why its a good idea to troll the line out with a sinker with a swivel ( the heavier the better) to remove the line twist and as much memory as you can.
  18. Braid is great stuff. I think everyone has covered the basics from drag, spooling it properly, getting snagged, and a good knife/scissors. One thing i do almost every trip is to let out a lot of the braid behind the boat while trolling with a lure that has a lot of resistance like a crankbait or a heavy jig and then reel in and that will keep your spool as tight as it can be to prevent the line from digging.
  19. Huh?!? Not sure what is meant by this but with a baitcaster you will be fine. I would still let it out behind the boat the get any line twist from the spinning reel out. Also you have the advantage of using a part of your line that is like new. This line has been coiled tighter than the outermost part of the line so it will have some memory. Just another reason why letting it out behind the boat is a good idea.
  20. Im new to tungsten and some of the ones I bought have an insert already. They seem like they are good quality. should I be concerned? BTW I really like how small they are for the weight!
  21. Not one of them either... I went with a gen 3 revo winch and the Aetos from TW for 128$. Im a sucker for a sale. so if someone wants a 25$ cabelas coupon I'll sell it for 15$
  22. There wasnt any slack in the line. I was the one holding the rod. Why should he? Thats how he likes to fish. I have watched him reel in 5-6lb bass on 2lb magnathin. It was seaguar Invizx 12lb dont believe me try this: http://www.tackletour.com/reviewfluorocarbon2.html This is only fluorocarbon. notice that most stretch between 8-11% and invizx at 13% So approximately 30 yard cast my estimate of 12ft stretch...sounds about right. You do not have to believe me. I caught that fish late august last year. after that I decided to try a different fluoro line for T-rigs. that is when I found this and decided on P-line. I can tell you that stretch matters. it has proven itself to beyond a shadow of a doubt with the example I have already stated and when I first started using braid I "missed" a couple of fish. more likely I ripped the the hook right through their lips. As I said above; to each their own. but dont think that I dont take stretch into consideration when I switch between braid and mono/fluoro.
  23. Its nice to see some other sarcastic jokers around here. In all reality I would go with braid and add a fluoro leader. no need for a mono leader
  24. I appear to be in the minority here. I use straight fluoro for plastics. I dont have a problem seeing the line. I use braid with a leader for jigs.
