  1. I am still only looking for one hook. (more than one bait is prohibited in MN) imagine a mainline to a 3 way swivel then one 6-10" line with the hook and one line 2-4' for the weight. Now help me find a way to set it up like this without the swivel.
  2. I am looking to try a dropshot setup this coming year and really just dont like the look of the regular way of tieing the hook to the line with 2' - 4' of tag line for the weight. I would prefer a way to have 6"-10" line from the main line but dont want to use a swivel or other metal hardware. I saw a way of doing this online but cant remember where. any thoughts would be appreciated.
  3. I agree with this. if you really havent used a baitcaster yet now is the time to choose your hand. I cast (every time) with my right hand and when flipping and working some other baits i dont like switching hands. I dont mind it for my spinnerbait reels.
  4. So far since hunting and paintball season ended: 7' 11" Daiwa Cielo HF 7' Gander mtn GSX MF 6'6" Gander mtn Vortex MLF Revo STX Tatula R daiwa laguna 2500 x2 daiwa regal 2500 orra s20 Symetre 2000 8#, 12# invisx 12# YZH ultra soft numerous jigs, a few spinnerbaits and buzz baits, with extra skirts. weights, jigheads, hooks, and assorted misc. Plastics, plastics, plastics...and some more plastics.... So...now im in need of a new tackle box Why you ask... Because i have a problem and the only way to make it better is to buy more stuff! Thats a good idea.
  5. I did something similar. I have had good luck here with a berkley kicker frog. so when I put it on a C-rig I hollow out a spot for a lindy snell float. Drag it, hop it, and even a constant retrieve. Every cast was a bite. some just happened to be pikes.
  6. Im not much of a quantum guy but I absolutely love my Quantum Smoke 25pti. on my Avid 7' Med fast.
  7. I just received my 7' 11" Heavy Fast flippin rod. As it is the middle of winter here in MN I have not been able to use it yet. It feels nice, balances about 3-4" past the reel (Tatula R).
  8. THANK YOU!!! this is exactly what I needed. I did already know about series VS parallel though. I have finally talked to my dad about the batteries, he has been on the ice for a couple of days. there are 3, 2 just for the minn-kota trolling motor (wired in parallel for 12v more amps). It sounds like he just needs a new battery this spring and a charger more than the, just in case scenario. So if there 2 batteries for the trolling motor wired in parallel do I need a 3 bank charger? recommendations? And I might get back to you later in the year when the ice thaws. And again thanks to all for your input
  9. It is kept on the lake from time to time, but does come back to the cabin fairly regularly. There is a battery charger in the garage so Im not really looking to buy an onboard charger. It is in storage for the winter but i will check it out in the spring.
  10. I will thank you. So basically the jist of what Im hearing is that there is no way to charge the batteries other than plugging it in to an outlet when I get off the water. is that correct? Is the outboard able to charge the starting batteries? Would a battery booster pack be a good last resort type of thing to have in the boat instead of just jumper cables?
  11. Thank you all for your time There are 3 batteries in the boat that is a fact as i have seen them all. As a novice, to marine wiring anyways, I am not sure whether all are hooked up together for everything, or 2 are for the trolling motor alone, or 2 are for the outboard and electronics and one is for the trolling motor. I have been out on the lake for 12+ hours using the trolling motor extensively and havent seen him plug in a charger. He had said that the mercury 4-stroke 90hp has a way to charge the battery. I had asked if it was an alternator and he didnt know exactly how it worked but said that it charged it. Like i mentioned there are 3 batteries, but I am unaware of how they are wired. The Batteries are fairly new, less than 3 years old. I will look into that. How does it work? will it charge all batteries? is it self sufficient (meaning does it get plugged into an outlet at home or does it charge from the outboard)? And I was looking into the diehard battery booster pack as a self jumping solution. Again thank you all for your information and help.
  12. thank you guys for your responses. I have emailed plano to see if they would be willing to make a new style of tackle box that is a little larger than the 787, but if not the cabelas option is looking very nice. the large would be enough and the super magnum would be too much. I think I would really like the cabelas bag.
  13. I will have to research how his batteries are wired. What I do know is that he frequently checks the depth finder to see battery voltage. When the voltage is lower than 11v he will start the motor. and yes its in the water. Inability to row to shore which happened twice last year. he was too sore to get out of bed for a couple of days after he had to row last time. and that was on a lake that was 1000 acres. He frequently fishes on lake mille lacs (130,000 acres) and I am worried about it. Any real solutions to keep him out of these emergency situations would be helpful. Again I am a novice when it comes to marine wiring so any knowledge you can share would be appreciated.
  14. Im in the market for a new tackle box/bag. I currently have a VERY old plano 9606 and need more room. I would prefer not to have two different tackle boxes. I would appreciate any suggestions you guys might have. Things im looking for are: space for: 12-16 spinnerbaits/buzzbaits 8-10 ½-¾ jigs (spare skirts) hooks (texas rig, walleye, crappie, and others) Weights ( probably half a 3700 worth) Rapalas (probably 2 3700's for rapalas, spoons, poppers, and frogs) Spoons Poppers/frogs Bobbers, and other small tackle Tools (Needlenose, nail clippers, and a knife) And heres the reason I need a new box/bag, the entire bottom of the 9606 is full of plastics. I do prefer hard sided boxes but would look at soft sided bags if you guys could convince me of the durability of some of the options out there. The leading contender is the plano 787 but it has no room for my plastics. Thank you guys in advance for your help.
  15. I have a question about charging batteries. My father has a smoker craft 161 promag. He has a trolling motor, lowrance elite 7HDI, along with a second depthfinder up front. He is 56 and has gout, with his health he from time to time will start the outboard just to charge the batteries because he is worried the batteries wont have enough power to start the motor. the depthfinder shows voltage and he generally starts the motor when voltage gets just below 11v. should he be worried? should he keep doing this? at the very worst I am thinking about buying him a diehard battery booster pack so that should the motor not start he can just jump it himself. any thoughts would be helpful. thanks in advance.
  16. I have braid on a couple of spinning reels with braid. some NEED it some dont. I have spiderwire, powerpro, and my favorite is gamma torque. The length of backing will depend on the size of the reel. you dont need much backing though.
