  1. Thanks everyone, clears up that. But why was this fish so darn fat near the gill instead of the middle? Was it swallowing maybe another large fish?
  2. So last summer I caught my pb largemouth up north. I was ecstatic...but also confused. Ill start with how I caught it, it was a textbook spot with submerged timber, about 6 feet deep, and knowing the structure of the lake because Ive fished there so many times (I dont have electronics) remembered there was an access to much deeper water! I flipped in a texas rigged venum craw (watermelon candy red) and hopped it around. 2 casts later I was about to give up but I noticed another hole a little deeper back, pitched her in and shook it, right as it fell my line was being pulled and my rod felt mushy almost, like being pulled through mud, so I swang and hooked into the fight of my life. When I landed her I noticed the bass was not widest around the middle...but fattest from the gill about 3 inches down. It looked like she swallowed a bird or something! Also she was only 19.5 in but weighed 5pn4oz!! I checked the scale and its accurate to a tee. My question is do you think this bass was possibly feeding on a small mammal/huge fish while I caught her? And is that the reason why she weighed so much...I mean, ive seen buddies catch 21+ plus in and weighing only 5 on the dot. Thanks
  3. all great answers, but this turning the reel to the side fixed my problem which was probobaly causing backlash in the first place
  4. Forgive my ignorance of the baitcaster style rods because I am still very new to them. But I have a theory about backlash? So basically everyone has told me to set my magnetics up so that my craws/jig n pigs will fall VERY slowly. However; when I do this I always get backlash, I figure because the line is still running out of the bail and I am not proficient at thumbing it at all. So I imagine I could just tighten it so the lure doesnt fall I will cast shorter, but it would be harder to backlash? Either way I cast only about 10ft with my baitcaster at the moment so it would not matter, should I do this to avoid backlash? Thanks!
  5. HEY, don't pick on little people man. Plus you look pretty weird yourself so relax
  6. Yea, I find usually most big youtubers have very good cameras/angles though
  7. As I mentioned some people are not comfortable with a baitcaster...also I find light soft plastics work with better action on a spinning reel. Not to mention some people cannot afford quality baitcasters, in my situation it would not be wise seeing as I fish like twice a year. If you don't like the video why bother commenting man
  8. So I just wanted to aware you guys and girls on a video I saw which intrigued me a while back. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iyG15eud6PU If you like using spinning reels as much as I do, or simply want an accurate cast for lighter lures you should give this a try. Feels a bit weird but I got pretty accurate after a few days of practice!
  9. I like a lunker hunt 4 inch tube rigged with a ball head jig for a goby like appearance
  10. Leaving this weekend for a week to a beautiful river full of those beauties, nothing huge but it's very healthy, caught a few 4 pounders last summer..hoping for something a bit bigger
  11. Thanks brother, my mono is soft and thinner than the usual ten pound test. Spooled it up today casts just as well and does not coil at all
  12. So I was just wondering if 10lb monofilament line would be too heavy for a 2000 series spinning reel. The reel is a mitchell avocet 2000 series, last year I filled it completely with 8lb big game mono line and it casted like a dream no problems at all, I was wondering if 10lb line would cause any issues (casting distance aside).
