  1. Favorite by far is a Texas Rigged worm. The hits are always fantastic and I've caught my biggest fish on this. When they won't hit anything else, they'll hit a worm. Least favorite would have to be dive baits...end up catching either hybrids/stripers or just a lot of sticks...
  2. This sounds alot more do able, I keep most of my combos strung with 30lb Berkeley big game anyway.
  3. Recently picked up an Alabama rig at my local Dick's while it was on sale, and I've heard killer stories and even seen some insane hook ups on TV. My only question is what is the proper setup for them? I noticed the package suggests 60-90lb braided line and it seemed a bit excessive to me, can y'all give me a hand here?
  4. Lew's speed spool combo Quantum Ultrex combo BPS megacast + quantum light Abu Garcia ambassadeur on some rod from the 80's I use all of these for EVERY kind of fishing, from cats to perch to largemouth, I find them all durable and they get the job done
  5. Turns out I didn't have to wait or save! On a family venture to Dick's I found a Lew's speed spool combo (normally $100) on clearance for a whopping total of $67.
  6. Palomar knot either tied with Berkley big game 30lb test, or Berkley nanofil That knot just doesn't come undone!
  7. I know the caius is a great reel for the price, and add it to a lighting shock it would be excellent. That puts the whole thing around $130 tax included, sounds like I'm just gonna have to buckle down and start saving some more.
  8. What on earth... That has got to be awkward to cast
  9. IMO it has to be related to your recent upgrade, I just bought my first decent combo ( quantum ultrex) and it feels very different from any of the cheaper ones I've had in the past. It's a completely different feeling, I can feel any kind of cover if I hit it, whereas when I borrowed a combo that was way out of my price range I thought I was getting a bite ever other cast. I think a bit if a refresher work is all you need to get used to this BPS setup again. Then you just need to keep in mind the differences when your out on the water.
  10. Money is a bit tight for me, I don't make a whole heck of a lot being a 17 yr old, and I just got my own truck so insurance payments are rolling in like crazy. Y'all are probably right, it may take me a few more months but it is probably best to wait it out.
  11. I was very careful cleaning it, it retained the patina, the only thing I really spent time on was a dirt dobber nest that was inside the reel. I used no chemicals, just water to get the dirt and sand out.
  12. Thanks for the info guys, I am going to be keepin this for years to come and hopefully I I ever get in a bind it will be worth a little more by then.
  13. If I'm fishing a jig I toss it, let it hit bottom and bump once, then sink, bump, sink, bump, sink, waiting about 3-4 secs in between bumps, and doing this all the way back to the boat. This take a lot of time but it covers more area per cast and will let you know what's going on on the bottom a little better. After 2-3 casts I troll a little farther, and do the same. If I'm going to use a jig I anticipate a long trip out. Also be sure the "bumps" are quick hard rips with the rod, not very long but fast.
  14. If it's really dark water I suggest a white jig, toss it out and bump it. Maybe a swim bait, one of the shad colors. If you've got'em I might also try a white/ chartreuse spinner, toss it out and work it like a jig while giving a slow retrieve, the noise could bring some bass out if cover and hopefully right on to your hook
  15. I have a 1980 silver anniversary, pistol grip Zebco 33. It is on the original rod with none of the decals missing from either the rod or reel. I do NOT want to sell it, it belonged to my now deceased great grandfather and was in awful condition when I found it. After some cleaning and oiling it works perfect and I use it often. My question is what on earth is this thing worth? I've had some friends tell me it has some good value due to it's age and style, but I'm just not sure. Some help here please?
