  1. They don't look bad. the ones I got were white/chart with a single Colorado blade. Haven't used them yet though
  2. I usually use white or chartreuse with no trailer, and black if I'm night fishing or in muddy water
  3. Bass can get "toothy" if they aren't eating anything hard. So I'd say mystery solved... Light colored largemouth that had been eating shad for a while.
  4. I've caught some very large grass carp on lettuce, cherry tomatoes, and dry dog food (very hard to put on a hook). They're really fun to fight, once they get close and you step towards them they take off again. I've had one pull me around in a flat bottom boat in northwest AL when I was a kid... That thing had to be 60+lbs
  5. Most likely. Did you notice if the mouth went past the eye or stopped before it? You probably already know that largemouths jaw goes past it's eye. A Spotted bass doesn't. But it's not unheard of for either fish to have no markings. Also on a largemouth it's dorsal fins are not connected.
  6. Not all largemouth/spotted bass have the lateral line. As for the teeth, I bet the fish had been feeding heavily on shad/ baitfish instead of anything off the bottom like craws.
  7. Look up Zara spooks on YouTube, they're my favorite top water lure.
  8. +1 on spooks and walkin the dog
  9. Let us know how it works
  10. When I fished for gar (alligator) we would put yarn on the hooks. It get caught in their teeth. Also in my (limited) experience we had to let the fish hang on the our baits for a while before setting the hook.
  11. Chris007 has a good point, but you're fishing them when I would most of the time. Maybe the bass see you or get spooked by the splash. Try casting onto the bank and hopping the frog easily into the water if you can. Definitely check out YouTube, lots of good info there. Just keep at it!
  12. What time of day are you fishing?
  13. I did the same thing, tons if heddon, rebel, and even bomber spinnerbaits for a dollar!
  14. Correct me if im wrong folks. but ill take a shot here. Colorado blade is slower, which makes it easier to fish deeper. And they're great for slow rolling. In murky water the C blade will actually give off more flash than willows and Indiana blades if I'm not mistaken. Willow blades run fast, you can burn them close to the surface, and Indiana blades are sort of a compromise between the two.
  15. Remington 870 with #7 bird shot
  16. I'm originally from alabama, I understand your concern with wind. But I've learned it can be your friend. There's a couple articles here that give some insight about it.
  17. Try frogs, especially in the morning and late afternoon. Maybe try spinnerbaits along the edges of the lily pads as well. Overall the best advice I can give is to find out what the bass are eating and match your lures as best you can.
  18. On pressured water I would recommend lighter tackle. I've fished a lot of lakes and ponds that are beat like a drum and done well with weightless 6" U tail worms, T-rigged weightless tubes, safety pin type spinners, and Zara pup top water baits. If all else fails, I break out the fly rod.
  19. Lovewell, glen elder, and Keith sebelius are good. I just went to sebelius last week. Caught 24 bass, the largest around 3lbs. I know there are some 5-6 lb bass in there too. Anyway if you're willing to drive a little further Harlan county reservoir in NE isn't too far from Wichita. Good fishing, camping areas, showers, boat ramps. Check it out
  20. That's the way I'm thinking as well. After every fish, and almost every cast with the cheaper crankbaits I had to "tune" them. I did learn a lot though, and I'm not afraid to throw them into cover now.
  21. Over the weekend I fished a new lake and forced myself to use crankbaits almost exclusively. I had a couple of KVD 1.5, and a few cheaper Rebel square bills. I did ok, and caught 11 bass between 1 and 2.5 lbs. while fishing the KVDs I had no problems, but I had to keep turning the eyes on the Rebels to keep them straight. Have any of you had this problem? I'm probably going to buy several more KVDs in various sizes instead of going as cheap as possible. Also does anyone here use BPS crankbaits? If so how are they?
  22. Very nice fish
  23. I also have had luck when the weather is "consistent" say if you have several days of the same type of weather. Sam summed it up in a nutshell though. There's tons of stuff to read on how weather affects fish!
