  1. Yep,I do. I like the ones with rattles in the eye sockets.I would probably go with the Buddy if I had to choose.Don`t neglect to try the gold color blades. I have a 2 ounce Buddy that I use for stripers. It works
  2. Conowingo lake on the Susquehanna River. Go to the Peach Bottom nuke plant, use the ramp at the north end,run about a half mile south along the plant and cooling towers to fish the warm water discharge. Great in the winter because it averages about 12 to 15 deg above average lake temp.Stripers, lmb,sm, and eyes too. Good luck. Watch for the stripers to bust shad, then be ready to jerk bait them. They only stay up for a few minutes. Be patient,as they usually show up again. C22
  3. Great read. Love the jb`s in winter.41 deg to 44 deg is when I do the damage with LC 78 & 100. One thing I didn`t see mentioned , or missed is line attitude to the rod. With 15/20 lb braid and floro leader, often I will completely slack the line so it lays on the water with no tension from the rod. The lure is supposed to remain motionless between twitches. Hope this helps. C22
  4. Yes I have an el cheapo wireless from Walmart that works great. I have a 20' boat with lots of tongue weight ,and the ball has to be directly under the hitch in order to work.. The camera has a mount that slips over the bumper and looks directly at the ball.12 v power comes from the plug on the truck where the trailer lights connect. The unit is removed and stored inside when done. The tv screen plugs into the lighter recpt. and is stored after use.. I use it only for connecting the trailer, not for backing up. This gadget saves various parts of my anatomy from abuse. Well worth the money.. Ebay is loaded with these wireless cams. C22
  5. When you spend two hrs in BPS and can`t find anything you REALLY need, but buy something anyway. If my garage burned down, it would be a federal hazmat site.[plastics] .I don`t buy lures because I like it,I do it because I HAVE to, for a fix.
  6. Wowser. What was the original use of those. I`m thinking counterweight for a large crane. Sometime round here they scrap sail boats and the keel produces some sizable lead chunks, but nothing close to your find. FYI,a circular saw with carbide tip blades will cut lead very well. Not the answer for those monsters, but maybe for smaller pieces to go into the pot. C22
  7. I tie jigs from size 1/32 oz to 3 oz. Some of them can be done by hand but as mentioned a vise is very handy. You need not spend much more than $20 to get a basic unit. I use lots of flashabou of different colors ,even black on black jigs.I like some flash on certain top water rear hooks. I never noticed deertail odor because I always wash them in warm soapy water, rinse and borax the skin side heavily and air dry them. Skunk tails hang in a tree til they quit raging, usually 4 to 6 weeks. Sometime nothing is safe. Several times I had tails hanging about 7 feet high and some night critter considered it to be edible C22
  8. Give me a huge slow moving front and I`m out thumpin fish. When the sky opens and turns blue, the wind picks up, I`m heading home to cut the yard, hang moms curtains ,ect After having watched thousands of fronts come and go and experiencing the aforementioned scenario many, many times,I have a difficult time trying to discount the pressure theory. Good thread ,and please no one take offense to my thoughts. C22
  9. I used to fish crankbaits in a deep river reservoir a lot ,mostly for lmb.I held the rod low and to the side so I had an accurate view of the rod tip. Many ,many times I felt no appreciable strike but the rod tip would stop vibrating because a fish had taken in the bait and was swimming along with it.======Set the hook.. Sometime the rod would just go straight.===Set the hook. I learned to set the hook anytime the rod changed attitude. Many bass came on board by this method. Softbaits except for Senkos ,set the hook now. Also I seldom ever drop the rod before a set. With braid and a mono leader I don`t need the extra uummff C22
  10. Humm, interesting name Nice looking jigs.
  11. Nice catch Jake and company. C22
  12. I used to be a strong advocate of barbless hooks [and still am],but I got lambasted on a few sites and that still puzzles me. I find little to no difference from one to the other. Any difference I would mention would be to keep more pressure on a fish til landed. Also if one is fishing C & R what difference does it make if one escapes because of no barbs? C22
  13. Well said, certain types of fishing require being spot on. C22
  14. I second the motion to carry a jaw spreader. They make lure removal and release a lot easier. We had some deep fried northerns last summer and they were great tasting. There are several good youtube vids on how to fillet the y bones out. C22
  15. Thanks for all the replies. I haven`t used the method much because most of my fishing is in shallow water , that being 8' or less. Also I have been heavily involved in salt water fishing for a long time now. I have a rekindled interest in bass fishing because that is where my true roots are. Again thanks for the help. C22
  16. Austrailia for some reef fishing to catch who knows what
  17. My starry word rhymes with match
  18. The title says it all.I always thought drop shotting was for depths 10' or more . A friend says no, it can be effective down to 3' also, but with a cast. Also how many of you cast d s rigs even in deep water. Thanks C22
  19. That is a wild thing to witness. Iv`e seen bass chase minnows up onto the bank and then gobble them when they flopped back in the water. I saw a lmb grab a 3' water snake in the middle torso. A battle ensued and both disappeared. A friend saw a lmb ****** a blackbird off a cat tail bush that was about 6" or 8" above water. C22
  20. THAT KID is dangerous with a fishing rod for any species. Chris, and family,WTG,I`m envious. C22
  21. 6"6" for spinner baits,7' for jigs and all others C22
  22. It hurt me to even read that
  23. Throwing light lures is usually where my problems arise. They don`t create enough line pressure to wrap on the spool tightly Try this. Take all the line off. Walk it across the yard,or let it out behind the boat, whatever .Without any lure or weight on it wind it on with substantial finger pressure on the line. Been doing this for yrs now with mono and braid. This method creates the least amount of problems that I have found. Also try to keep the rod tip speed low when casting. They are called wind knots, but I call them friction knots. Hope this helps . C22
  24. Love it, I`ve always said if you can get`em with a 12 gage ,they should be legal.
  25. load it up with moth balls. They work for chipmunks too. Those little striped rats did lots of damage to my cars and boats
