  1. Out today in some tide water. WT 38deg,good vis 10 crappies ,1 almost 14",3 about 11". Also a 12" bass .Most fish biting my little hand tied hair jig=olive/or. The bite was fair til the wind switched off nw to n picked up speed and started snowing like crazy. Been searching & searching for another spot but can`t find any more. Cris, meeting with JL soon. C22
  2. I got some from Ebay. They look good for sure and a few have a real wide angle wobble. I `m hoping the pike will like them real well and leave my LC`s alone. C22
  3. I`ve sky dived three times now and my instructor had my harness so tight ,it changed the pitch of my voice. I see why people jump, its a real rush. This thread is like reading my biography. C22
  4. AAAAlll rightyyyyy now
  5. My bud was at D`s when he called me,so excited he was stuttering about LC`s at $5=6 ea. I told him to load up.He sent me a pic of 16 of em.Half & half 78`s and 100`s.Look out NY smallies. C22
  6. Other guy==don`t forget to hook up the winch line to the boat before leaving ramp. Your boat might[did] slide off the trailer. Me= secure anything that might blow out of the boat while trailering on road==like life jackets coats, coolers,t boxes ect
  7. I see lots of conflict if one angler wants to troll and the other doesn`t. One angler may not be set up for trolling so its nap time.It can be a very effective catch method, but I always thought that the boat catches the fish, not the angler. As for me and trolling===no thanks, I `d rather go fishing C22
  8. Do you connect your kill switch lanyard to yourself while under way. I do anytime at more than idle speed. I fish alone quit a bit so I figure a second chance might not come around. Its not only for me ,but for the safety of passengers too.. Fortunately I have never had an incident, but I know of a few accidents that could have been avoided, had the kill switch been worn. C22
  9. I don`t keep a log because I worry that my wife might find it I fish about 240 days a year +- Even though I get out a lot I usually don`t fish those crushing 12 hr days much anymore. After driving 3 hrs I used to feel that I had to get my money`s worth.I moved much closer to my water of choice, so now I average about 6 hrs on the water.I fish tide waters a lot so I may leave any time day or night.. I do travel some long trips so I usually have a buddy along to share costs and driving time. Being retired is great. How many days do you fish. C22
  10. I went to a local pond that is known for relatively good bass catching in the winter. WT 40deg,clear water, acceptable weather, resulted in a sluggish hit on an LC jerk on the second cast that got off very shortly.I issued a mental "yes" they are on to myself. Two hrs later it came to be that they were not on.I tried for yellow perch, crappie and pickerel.Nothing would play tight line with me. So I moved to another pond with cloudy water from recent rains, same 40 deg temp.Half hour of casting showed no results.I began thinking this was going to be an armchair puter afternoon.I moved to an area that had a 3' deep flat that dropped to about 5'. A nice 23" pickerel smacks the LC on a slow pause and go retrieve.Next cast another and then another. Then a 15"lmb.I realized that a feed was taking place so I put the LC away, and started with a 1/8 hair jig olive/spritz of orange. They loved it.This pond gets weed choked in the summer and lots of them were still there.Often when the jig hit a weed it resulted in a strike. I fished for about 2-1/2 hours. Tally was 17 pickerel 6 lmb==4 over 14" 3 yellow perch 11' to 12" 1 crappie @ 13" Bad weather coming so I`ll be shut in for several days ,but this trip was oh so nice. C22
  11. I never caught a snook ,but I love fishing reds & trout.A friend was down in Charleston,SC for the last two weeks. In ten days of fishing they caught only one red, even with a guide one day. The cold water has them shut down and the local salts have landed very few.. They saw lots of reds pushing but would take nothing.I was supposed to join him but declined the 9 hr drive to wait for better conditions. No expert status here but my favorite lure would be 3" paddle tails C22
  12. I was put off when the big shows started to fade and many non-fishing/hunting vendors came in to fill spaces. I was tempted one time wrestle a black bear at a show, but the guy in front of me twice my size got tossed around like a blowup doll. Not that I ever saw one of those up close I faded into the crowd. The internet has changed every thing. I spend that dead loss $100 show expense online and have my stuff in my mail box in short order. C 22
  13. I don`t know a lot about the place, but I do know that targeting LMB in 38deg water is a real challenge. Penrod Cove right above the 495/95 bridge would be my choice to start. Blades baits and jigs work there. From another forum I visit,I read that crappie fishing is great in the winter. Huge catties are are available on cut bait and other stinky stuff. Hope this helps C22
  14. Great catch. 10 14" crappies would be something to get real excited about around here. Iv`e fished more for them this year because all of my usual spots iced up.
  15. I agree and understand perfectly. Confusion arose here. The phrase "I don`t understand" was substituted by the site computer for three well known letters that express frustration. Thou shalt not use them again. C22
  16. Flyfisher, the place is not a pay/fish locale. Very few people even know about it. For the most part you have to know someone that would even tell how to get in there. Its a very casual good ole boy thing. Pay was optional. The point is that the guy that filed probably had a false claim. Word gets around and spooks other property owners that might let people hunt or fish.Done C22
  17. At my age you pee when /where you can. The big thing about fishing private or controlled properties now days is liability. There are a certain number of turds looking to sue someone /anyone. Case/point.I asked a friend how to get into certain 40 acre pond . He told me where to go,find a dirt lane that goes to the back end of the pond, and leave a few bucks in a drop box, go fishing. Its been that way for a long time. Well someone claims they got hurt back there and now are sueing the owner. So its now closed to all. I don't understand. As a property owner of a place times past,I had a place with some hunting and fish to be had, I was VERY selective about who was allowed in there. Its a shame what its come to. C22
  18. Thanks,I`m right on the Md=De line. Most tidal rivers are still open, @ 39/40 deg,but it can be brutal finding fish in winter. C22
  19. Iv`e been to the river twice after this report. Once I forgot to load the crappie box ,so I made do with the split tail on a Zoom Fluke about an inch long and a drop shot worm end on another rig and did OK. Next trip I tied two Crappie Mag jig heads with deer hair. One wh/char and another avacado/tiny bit of orange. They loved both of them. Some time color matters a lot with crappies.I beat the crap out of one hole with the wh/char and did well.It dried up on that combo,so I went with the avacado/or and caught 4 for 5 casts in the same place.20+ today, all c & r. I may have wasted money on the plastics because the deerhair jigs are working great.I`m not a crappie guru but getting out lately has been golden + its the only show in town now.
  20. Retiredbosn, maybe start filming your trips. They would be funnier than B Dances phoney set up bloopers. Thanks for the smiles this morn. Oh ,btw I`ll pass on a trip with you. Why do I fish. I don`t really like it, I HAVE TO,its a compulsion Funny thread, thanks all C22
  21. Lmao. That would disqualify you in a T Once in a while when I lean back in my easy chair and doze off, I`ll set the hook. My wife laughs and asks "did ya get him" C22
  22. I found some open water today to wet the boat in.Little slow on the start, but it picked up nicely on the crappies.Mostly smallish with 3 or 4 about 9 " and one nice one over 13". WT 39 deg, clear, falling tide. Lure was a 1/32 oz Crappie Magnet jig==wh/char Crappie Magnet plastic ,no float on 6 # line. I feel that those jig heads are significant insomuch that they help the plastic remain horizontal. I spotted 2 male cardinals a few squirrels and more geese than I cared to count. It was great to some fresh air and of course pullage too. C22
  23. Last year I slacked off and only fished 5-1/2 days a week, so I`m going to try to improve on that. No kidding, I would like to add at least 3 fish to my "species caught" list. I`m going to do some salt water catching soon so this may happen. C22
  24. Don`t want to know for sure but the LC`s are driving the costs wayyyy up. Lost 3 of them this year already. C22
  25. I used to work on some high places. I think 250' on smoke stacks was it for me. Very interesting what all you can see up there. Funny note. I told my apprentice to go up this 80' structure and throw a bundle of rope down so we use it to hoist tools and parts up., He walks all the way up and yells "ready"=====Yep==========here comes the whole bundle===WHOMP .I didn`t know whether to laugh or cry. The tower guy is special for sure.
