  1. Funny ,funny== I would be happy with a stringer of the "before" fish.
  2. lmao, yeah, like I never hooked crab pot rope. I got a jig hooked up near a rock jetty and back over to get it,hit a rock and severely damaged the prop BUT,I got my fifty cent lure back. Laughter is the best medicine ,even if its on your own tab. C22
  3. No problems with critters eating my maters, but the birds like to poop on them. So I cut a piece of wire a foot long twist one end around the stake near the top, bend it up over the middle top so the birds can`t land on it. I have a stand of bamboo trees nearby that make nice stakes to tie to. Like wise on my sidewalk lights that equates to the birds toilet,or used to. I put a 4" drywall screw top center of each one. Even the sparrows can`t defeat them. C22
  4. Looks like a catfish going down
  5. I was watching River Monsters today and one shot showed several of those swimming rats on shore. J Wade was somewhere in Africa.
  6. Hi Chris, yes I believe it was right at 8 lbs Ha ha they look like the real thing. I did some more damage with the fluke today. One pike had 2 large crawdads inside . C22
  7. I like to think I can get along with natures ways, but when some black birds decided to make a nest on top of the alternator of my wifes brand new car,I had to draw the line. They had a wad of straw, grass ,ect the size of a basketball strewn about under the hood. Poop everywhere. OK what to do. I placed a window fan with ribbons blowing around in front of the car to keep them away for now.Short of killing them, which would be very tricky here in a development ,I don`t have any other solutions. Ideas anyone? Yes ,I have a garage but that's my tackle shop ,beer drinkin man cave=forget about it. Also soon the barn swallows will invade my front door protected area . I just hang about six ribbons down to about my waist height and that works to keep them out. C22
  8. Rainy days are tough I had to do it,no choice. A friend called from Dicks a while back and said all LC`s are on sale for between $5 & $6. I told him ,get a basket and clean the racks off.15 LC`s for $80 . All 78`s and 100`s. You see my point, right, I had no choice. C22
  9. Wow,that's brazen of some one.Like everyone else I hate a thief. On a side note, and not trying to make lite ,my son is dragging his feet on fixing me up with a nice rig like that.
  10. I am very happy with Pros Soft Bait Glue. Its expensive but worth it imo. Check some utube vids http://www.ebay.com/itm/PROs-Soft-Bait-Fishing-Glue-The-Original-Formula-/131360500676?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1e95b22bc4
  11. One of my favorite varieties is called celebrity. Average size with excellent taste.Early girl and jet star plants are in the lineup too.I`m usually eating tomatoes by mid June and a month later,we have to many. Also one plant of the yellow mini type is enough. I put two in last year and was over run with them.Sweet as can be ,almost like gum drops.
  12. I love tomatoes. To get started ,I cheat. I buy potted plants that are about 3 feet high with buds and even small maters on them.I put a bed of grass clippings about 3" to 6" thick on the base to stop weeds and hold moisture. It really cuts down the need for water. Early on I pinch the suckers ,but they usually get out of control. I always have plenty to eat so what else matters. Oh yeah ====fishing $1.00 each is not an unusual price to pay for a single tomato any more ,so I`m OK with the initial planting expense. C22
  13. I`ll echo the good things already stated + more. I enjoy the banter between some of the members who obviously know each other. I really like the no personal attacks policy. Thanks to all. C22
  14. Back when I had a pond I would bring home road kills and hang them on a pole above the water line .Once the maggots developed and started falling into the water the gills would swarm the area for a live meal. It was fun to watch. Dye colored maggots are a well known bait by ice fishermen. C22
  15. Had you ever tasted pike chunked, breaded and deep fried it would be plain to see why they target them.I view them differently than times past.
  16. I never have caught a grass carp, but have had several commons take my hair jigs. C22
  17. Some of you might remember this vigilante action against the cormorants in New York. I know some of the defendants and have stayed at their place and fished with them. All good people just trying to protect their jobs and well being. C22 http://www.nytimes.com/1999/04/09/nyregion/9-men-plead-guilty-to-slaughtering-cormorants-to-protect-sport-fishing.html
  18. For the last 5 years the cormorant population has been ever present with expanding populations that are simply destroying fish stocks in local ponds and coastal waters here on the Delmarva shore. They are eating machines that can easily swallow a 12" fish.My local home pond fishing is mere shadow of what it used to be. They are federally protected and suffer very little predation naturally . So they over populate with nothing to control it.Many states have reduction plans in effect, where it is proven that they are having a negative impact on local fish populations and economy. Check this read to see how fast they populate. http://www.nwp.usace.army.mil/Missions/Current/CormorantEIS.aspx Does anyone else see the problem with these flying rats C22.
  19. I had a 150 Rude that went 12 yrs before I did the pump. I almost felt that it was money wasted once I saw what good shape it was still in. Keep an eye on the LU lube. That's priorty. C22
  20. Good quality duo locks are important to me. I use Tsunami brand 40 lb class a lot. Once in a while I`ll throw one away because it doesn`t have good memory. Lots of lures I use require free movement when tied on and the snaps save me the headache of a loop knot. C22
  21. I use duo lock snaps quite a bit,no swivels. No for spinner baits, small hair jigs or plastics. C22
  22. 5 # 4oz. If it had the black spots I`d go 5# 6 oz
  23. My wx man can never get the "front" arrival time right. He misses by 6 to 8 hrs.
  24. I couldn`t do much with any other species today, but the pickerel were on. 53 deg wt,clear, calm wind. The snot rockets were suckers for a nose hooked 5" pearl super fluke twitched moderately. I nicked 8 of them about 18" to 22" in a 40 minute session. The east wind kicked up and the line bow messed up the sink/twitch pattern. One chunk lmb ate an LC 78. C22
  25. I was thinking about this recenty. Long ago when I got interested in river smallies I used a #4 oshaunessy[sp] EC hook in all my hair jigs. I didn`t miss many fish nor did I get hung up as much as the larger hooks I use now. Also I feel less damage was done to the fish. Maybe I should go back? Obviously with the plastic baits ,a larger hook is in order. Mostly 1/0 & 2/0 for me.
